Corona Update: Unfortunately the coronavirus has played havoc with our Bed & Breakfast. For now the houseboat is unavailable for bookings, but we hope to reopen in December 2021. The Raamgracht is an attractive, quiet oasis in the heart of this busy thriving city. There is little traffic, just boats, bikes and the occasional swan that pass by. The metro station is just around the corner, making it easy to transfer from and to the airport via Central Station.More

Thoroughly enjoyed the houseboat. Everything was in great condition and as advertised. Pleasantly surprised by the tour boats that often passed by. Very quiet and cozy after dark. Great neighborhood and easy access to everything. Would certainly stay again if available.

About the neighbourhood
The Raamgracht is located in the middle of the historic heart of Amsterdam. This area was once home to the broadcloth industry, up until the end of the 16th century. Broadcloth is a dense, plain cloth which was traditionally woven from wool. Some of the street names still reflect this period: Ververstraat (verven = to dye), Raamgracht (raam = frame on which the cloth was stretched to dry). The Staalstraat is named for the Staalhof, where samples of cloth were inspected and certified by the wardens of the Drapery Guild, immortalised in Rembrandt’s painting, De Staalmeesters.
