The Suite at Les Terraces is a spacious and well appointed space from which to explore the Aquitaine. With lovely, unobstructed, river views, and access to a totally secluded terrace, The Suite offers comfort and convenience for a stay of 3 (or more) nights. Les Terraces is situated in the bastide of Sainte-Foy-La-Grande, forming part of the old defensive wall of the town, which was established in 1295. While the exact year of the house's construction is a topic of some conjecture, it is a matter of fact that Les Terraces is included in the register of historic buildings, and one of few 'columbage,' or half-timbered, buildings still inhabited within the town.

Not to be missed
We were lucky enough to finally come back here again this year, our plans being changed (like so many) by Covid in 2020. The accommodation is just gorgeous, with everything you might need while away. - comfortable and charming. The spacious terrace over looks the river - a perfect place to watch the world, soak up the sun perhaps with a glass of the local red wine. The thing that really makes staying here is our hostess Alex. She’s warm, friendly and very helpful. Knows the local area very well. She organised a wine tasting for us at a small chateau, and pointed us towards a family run restaurant where we had a 6 course meal with wine - the sort of place locals keep to themselves! If you are clever you will ask her to cook for you, her food is just fabulous (turns out she’s a trained chef) She tends to source her provisions from the Ste Foy La Grande Saturday market so everything is very fresh and very local. Really one not to be missed!

5 star...
Can not wait to revisit this beautiful B&B... the accommodation was stunning with the most incredible view across the river. The room was spotless... huge with an enormous comfortable bed and a beautiful bath/shower/loo attached. Alex should have a Michelin star because her culinary skills are supreme and only surpassed by her warmth and generosity. If you’re hovering over the book now button just do it. You will not be disappointed.

About the neighbourhood
Sainte-Foy-La-Grande is a bastide town on the southern bank of the Dordogne river. The area is rural, with the primary activity in the region being viticulture (wine-making to you and me!), although there is some general agriculture, too. The region has a venerable history, with the remains of many Roman villas (and towns), plus an abundance of chateaux that featured in the 100-years war. In fact, the final battle of this long-running dispute between the kings of France and England occurred just down the road in Castillon-la-Bataille. For sporting enthusiasts, choose from golf, canoeing, cycling, walking.
Getting around
Transport links are good, with 2 airports in reasonably close vicinity, an SNCF train station in the town (regular links to the TGV in Bordeaux) provides service as far east as Sarlat-la-Caneda to the East, and Bordeaux and beyond to the west. Cycling is popular in the area.
