Lovely house
The house was well equipped with comfortable beds, made up on arrival with a small gift of a bottle of wine and local sweets. The owners were discreet, and the house and gardens were very private. The owners also owned the adjoining house but it remained unoccupied during our stay. The house was advertised as having a shared pool but on arrival we were told that the pool was only available from 2-5 pm.. On the whole this was not a problem but occasionally it would have been nice to have a dip after a day trip out after the 5 pm tine limit. Souvigny is a pretty small town and close to many interesting places such as Moulins, Bourbon-L'Archambault, Hérisson and Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule with lovely forest drives in between. I would recommend the kayaking in Ébreuil down the Sioule river and Vichy Spa Town. Souvigny was disappointing in that the restaurants were mostly closed in the evenings and all the other local establishments in the adjoining villages were either closed or fully booked. Apparently bookings were a requirement if you wished to eat out in the evening unless you visited the nearest town in Moulins. Croissants in the local bakery were only available early in the morning (at 7am).
