Delightful cottage in picturesque location
Just pretty and perfect! Well equipped, comfy bed, lovely surroundings. Stayed for two nights for a wedding nearby. Owner, Phil, very pleasant and helpful beyond expectation especially in an emergency! A rainy two days but the open fire was a welcome sight on arrival as was the little basket of goodies - eggs, bread rolls, jam, marmalade, coffee, tea etc. A lovely place I would happily return to and recommend. Thank you so much.

Great dog friendly holiday cottage
This is a 5-star dog friendly holiday cottage - we were greeted, not only with a cottage well prepared for human guests, but also with a dog bed, fresh bowl of water and dog treats all ready and waiting. Lovely. The cottage itself is compact and interestingly arranged with access on two levels. The beds were very comfortable; linen and towels all to the highest standard. We loved being able to walk the dog through a series of fields knee-high with grass and buttercups (leaving only the tail of a border terrier showing!). Access to the cottage is down a short un-made up road and the sign on the hair-pin bend says something about Wood end Saw Mill and does not mention the cottage. Once past that confusion all was well and we would certainly book the cottage again if we wanted to holiday near Huddersfield.

Quaint Cottage with Very Accommodating Owners
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Wood End Cottage. It is comfortable, quaint & cosy. The open fire was lit for arrival & the friendly owner there to greet us. Emails were answered promptly & Karen went out of her way to accommodate our specific needs. The cottage is in a rural peaceful setting though it is possible to walk into Slaithwaite. It is well equipped & beds are comfy. There is a pleasant outdoor area for dining if weather permits - sadly not in March. There is parking though it is a tad tight. All in all Wood End was ideal for our purposes & I send thanks to Karen & Rob.

Fabulous getaway, quiet and quaint
This rental is hidden away at the end of a track in a quiet rural area near Huddersfield. It has been furnished with great care for detail and has everything you need for a perfect break. Real fire, fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, outside eating area and a welcome basket which will take care of your 1st breakfast and beyond. We arrived very late at night and Karen stayed up to greet us. We much appreciated this ideal little holiday getaway.

About the neighbourhood
Set amongst lovely undulating Pennine countryside, Slaithwaite is a popular walking destination. Wood End Cottage is situated close to many footpaths and quiet country lanes and whether you are a casual walker or a seasoned long distance trekker there will be a trail to suit. From short ambles along the towpath or around the hill tops to longer waymarked circular trails around the Colne Valley and Meltham or tougher treks over the moorland trails and the 72 mile Kirklees Circular the Colne Valley has them all and our cosy cottage is the perfect place to return to for a relaxing evening. Cyclists will find National Cycle Route 68 and the Route of The Tour de Yorkshire passing right through the village and, for the horse riding enthusiast, The Pennine Bridleway is a short hack away. Whatever your interests, the area around the Colne Valley, with its wealth of culture and beautiful scenery, has lots to keep you entertained. Local Jazz and Folk festivals, Slaithwaite's biennial moonraking and the festival of light to name but a few. A little further away you can tour the local vinyard and sample its produce with your afternoon tea and why not take a bottle away with you to enjoy back at your cosy cottage base? The Colne Valley has become popular with film and television companies due to its stunning location, earning it the nick-name 'Little Hollywood'. Here you will find the settings of the much loved 'Last of the Summer Wine', 'Where the Heart is' and the more recent 'Remember Me' starring Michael Palin. Look out also for locations featured in the Hollywood film 'A Monster Calls' with Sigourney Weaver and Liam Neeson. Or why not take a trip to one of the many renowned theatres in Bradford, Leeds or Manchester or take in a concert by the Colne Valley Male Voice Choir, Huddersfield Choral Society or Huddersfield Philharmonic Orchestra? The many food festivals hosted in the area throughout the year are a great way to sample local and international delicacies. Take home a water buffalo burger or some delicious locally made gateaux or hand raised pies! A short drive away you can enjoy a trip on the Kirklees Light Railway, or slip back in time for a nostalgic browse around shops stocked with vintage goodies and enjoy the classic car collection at Hepworth and, if vintage is your thing, why not come for one of the many events organised by the David Brown Tractor Club - their road rally passes right by Wood End Farm! In the neighbouring village of Golcar is a small folk museum dedicated to the cottage industries that once supported the population of the area and an easy morning's stroll along the canal towpath takes the visitor to Marsden and Tunnel End Museum, situated at the side of the entrance to the Standedge Tunnel renowned as the longest and highest canal tunnel in the country and one of the Seven Wonders of the Waterways. Here visitors can explore deep into this marvellous Yorkshire attraction on one of the family friendly guided boat trips or stop for a bite to eat in the Watersedge cafe. In the rolling hills above Huddersfield you will find 'The Yorkshire Sculpture Park' with its extensive collection of outdoor sculptures including Henry Moore, or head out over the Pennines to discover the 'Panopticons', huge installations with commanding views over the landscape. Local artist Ashley Jackson has a studio locally or take a trip to Bradford to view the Hockney collection at Saltaire. At Wood End Cottage you are within easy reach of Howarth and Bronte Country, the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway where classics such as the original 'Railway Children' were filmed, The Yorkshire Coal Mining Museum and many fine houses such as Cannon Hall, Shibden Hall and Nostel Priory. Or take a stroll along the river to the tea rooms at Hardcastle Crags, keeping an eye peeled for the wild deer that still live deep in the woodland.
