Pippins is a rural retreat situated in the High Weald village of High Hurstwood which is in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. For 2019/20 the cottage has been awarded 4 stars and a Gold by VisitEngland. Pippins is one of two cottages that adjoin one another. They are set in the grounds of the owner's house at the end of 200 metres of private drive and surrounded by 12 acres of gardens, meadows and orchards which are a haven for birds and wildlife. The cottage enjoys its own garden area in which to sit out and unwind from the stresses of everyday life. It is equipped and furnished to a very high standard, with almost everything you could need for a totally relaxed holiday. It has been converted by a local builder with great care to retain many original features whilst creating a warm and welcoming cottage in which to truly unwind and get away from it all. You enter Pippins through a door into a cosy sitting/dining room with comfortable seating, oak furniture and a 32” Panasonic LCD TV, a DVD player and iPad/iPod dock. You will find games in the cupboard and plenty of books to choose from in the bookcase and tourist information and maps to help you plan your stay. There are two steps up to the kitchen which is a very light room with windows lining the two outer walls. It is very well equipped with a good quality electric cooker, a microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine/dryer. There is a door that leads out to your own delightful courtyard garden planted with scented roses. Here you will find garden furniture, an umbrella and Weber charcoal barbecue. The bedroom overlooks its own pretty, little garden which you can access through double doors. The bed is a super king sized (6ft) pocket sprung, zip and link divan which can, if required, be divided into twin beds. There is also a small remote controlled TV. The en-suite bathroom has an over-bath shower. If you want a rest from driving there is access onto a public footpath just outside the garden, and the Vanguard Way is only 10 minute's walk away. Several vineyards in the vicinity produce some rather good wines which can be sampled and bought. The Bluebell Steam Railway makes frequent journeys from Sheffield Park, with its period railway station and frequent special evening and week-end events for all ages. A great day out can also be enjoyed on the Ashdown Forest, the home of Winnie the Pooh and his friends, is less than 2 miles away, which is an ideal setting for wildlife and offers the perfect recipe for picnics, walking and riding. This is an area rich in historic houses and beautiful gardens. Glyndebourne Opera House is only 30 minute's drive. Why not have a day out, do some shopping and take in the Georgian Spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells or visit the seaside towns of Brighton or Eastbourne. Battle Abbey and 1066 country are both within easy reach. Or how about hiring a bike and taking a ride on the Cuckoo Trail. The Hurstwood (reviews on tripadvisor) which is the nearest pub is just a 7 minute stroll away. The nearest railway station is only 6 minute's drive away with direct access to London in about 70 minutes. There is a village store a couple of miles up the road and the major superstores in Uckfield and Crowborough are all within a 15 minute drive. More

This holiday cottage is perfect for a couple seeking a quiet stay in lovely surroundings. It is remote and rural but feels comfortable and homely. Clean and tidy with a delightful and quaint aspect. Excellent communication from the owner, Joan Cooper and Sarah, Cottage Manager. We felt looked after throughout. Lovely chocolate cookies were left as a gift on our arrival. A nice touch. Close to so many places to visit...to include, Ashdown Forest, Uckfield, Sheffield Park, Chartwell House (Churchill's Home), Seaford, Birling Gap and many more. A beautiful area in Sussex. Thank you to "Pippin" for a wonderful holiday. Most recommended.

A super cottage, we return every year, I’ve lost count of how many times now. We come for a week whilst we go to Glyndebourne and visit our favourite places in this part of Sussex. Very quiet, very comfortable, super big bed with lovely sheets, good-sized kitchen, good bathroom, wi-fi, washer-dryer, private little garden, parking, ......... lovely host, nice gifts of cake and Prosecco ....... couldn’t ask for better.

In Ashdown Forest a cosy and beautiful well appointed cottage! It had everything one could wish for a an enjoyable break Joan was very helpful and considerate when the heating broke down she immediately went to purchase two heaters to make sure that we weren't cold!!! I would definitely recommend this cottage to friends and family . It would be a beautiful place to stay at any time of the year!

Thank you for the great review. I had forgotten about the boiler breaking down! That is every cottage owners nightmare that the heating will give up in the middle of January! I an so glad that the heaters did the trick. Joan

We enjoyed a fantastic short break in Pippins. Our stay began with a warm welcome from Joan, the owner, who made us feel at home right away. We were really comfortable and had everything we needed in excellent surroundings. We went for lovely walks close by, visited National Trust historic properties, and discovered the attractions in local towns and villages. A great cottage and area for a vacation.

We spent a weekend at Pippins as a treat for my birthday and from the moment we arrived that's exactly what it was. Joan gave us a very warm welcome with a bottle of Prosecco and a lovely cake. The cottage was warm and cosy and beautifully decorated with everything you need for your stay. The surrounding area is lovely with The Ashdown Forest and Pooh Bridge, good walks, famous gardens, vinyards, a pub within easy walking distance for a delicious Sunday lunch and the coast not far away. Unfortunately it was late November and the weather was not really on our side but Pippins was the perfect place to chill out. We will return!

I was really impressed with both cottages which we booked to stay near our son's wedding. The place was immaculate and all the photos were really accurate. Added touches are brilliant like milk in the fridge. The owners are a delight and couldn't do enough for us. I would recommend the cottage to anyone.

We had a lovely stay for a couple of nights at the end of December. We were warmly welcomed and shown around the cottage, which is more than we'd expected. The cottage was well equipped, especially in the kitchen. It's in a great location, although we didn't have the opportunity to do any local walks due to the miserable weather. Overall a lovely cottage.
