Outside there is a patio with a covered pergola where you can enjoy lunch or dinner and a BBQ. There is a large grassed area behind the cottage, ideal for children to run about on or for you to laze around on sun loungers, enjoying the peace and quiet. While we do not have a swimming pool, less than 30 minutes away you can enjoy either the lovely beaches of Lake Bolsena or the thermal spas of Viterbo, or just 15 minutes down the road is a beautiful swimming pool in the grounds of a hotel where you can go for the day and have an excellent lunch included in the entrance fee. A newly opened supermarket is just 2 km away as is the train station. What we offer: A welcome hamper of seasonal fruit and vegetables Complementary lavender scented toiletries. If required a cot and high chair What we can arrange: Wine tasting Cookery classes Reiki treatments and courses Electricity for charging car is payable on the spot. More

We stayed here in August 2014 for 2 weeks with two children (7 and 10 years). The 'barn' was modern, comfortable and nicely decorated. There is a 'patio' area with seating and BBQ outside and plenty of space for the kids to run around. The barn is surrounded by hazelnut trees and a variety of fruit and veg is grown on the land and available to guests. It was spotlessly clean and well presented. The English hosts were very friendly and eager to make our stay enjoyable. A car is essential - we hired one from Rome airport and drove easily to the accommodation in under 2 hours. The barn is situated approx 5 mins from a village which has a small supermarket with basic provisions, a couple of bars, ice cream bar and a take-away pizzeria. There is no restaurant in the village. Vitorchiano is approx 20 mins drive and has a really good supermarket, bars and a pizzeria - a little further up the road in Pallone there is a great bar with fantastic ice cream and a lovely restaurant. There is a hotel approx 15 mins away which has a good pool available for non-residents and a lovely restaurant. Montifiscone is approx 25 mins away with plenty of bars, restaurants etc - it is a lovely hilltop town. Lake Bolsena is approx 35 mins drive and there are black volcanic sand beaches - the best we found at Capodimonte (where there are numerous bars lining the beaches) and Marta (which has some lovely restaurants). The lake is perfect for kids as it is so shallow and you sit right next to the water - so we could relax on the sunbeds while the kids played around in the water right in front of us. The setting of the lake is stunning. There are plenty of fantastic places to visit in the area including Orvieto, Viterbo, Bagnoregio to name a few.... There is a railway station in the village and an early train will take you into Rome in approx 1 hour and you can return the same day on a direct train.

We stayed for two weeks and were greeted by a lovely, friendly English host. The barn has been recently modernised and was very clean, bright and tastefully decorated. La Lavanda is set in beautiful grounds, which are child friendly, with fantastic views to the mountains in the distance. It is 5 minutes by car from the local village and train station but for local resturants you will have to drive further afield (10 - 15 minutes). We had two young children and there is a lovely lake, with sand, 25 minutes drive away which is very child friendly with numerous cafe's and play parks. The area has lots of villages with character and charm which are well worth a visit.
