About the neighbourhood
Barr is situated 35 kms (22 miles) south west of Strasbourg, which for very good reasons is known as the 'Crossroads of Europe' and well worth a visit. Strasbourg is famous for being the home of the European Parliament, the cathedral and its astronomical clock and 'Petite France', a quaint district of Strasbourg dissected by rivers and canals. The monastery at Mont St. Odile is a 10 minute drive from the house and on a clear day, provides a perfect location to view the Alsatian plain and the Black Forest across the River Rhine in Germany. There are a variety of attractions nearby for the children, including monkey mountain, a bird of prey sanctuary, a superb 'Go Ape' type adventure park and then Europa Park 50 minutes away in Germany.
Getting around
Barr train station is in the village of Barr 2.5km from the house and provides connections directly into Strasbourg, Selestat and Colmar. A local bus service connects neighbouring villages.
