Les Suites Sarladaises consists of five upscale self-catering units (two one bedroom apartments and three studios) available to discerning travelers for weekly rental in the heart of the historic center of Sarlat-la-Canéda, one of the most visited towns in France and capital of the ‘Perigord Noir’ area of Dordogne. Les Suites Sarladaises is housed in the ancient Hôtel de Leydis, an imposing structure of medieval origin refurbished in the 17th century as the home of magistrates of the Leydis family who presided over judicial affairs in the adjoining 'Presidial', the royal court of justice. Les Suites Sarladaises is housed in the ancient Hôtel de Leydis, an imposing structure of medieval origin refurbished in the 17th century as the home of magistrates of the Leydis family who presided over judicial affairs in the adjoining 'Presidial', the royal court of justice. Over the ages these and other judges were housed in the building’s stylish period rooms - hence the résidences d'époque incorporated in Les Suites Sarladaises business name and logo. The building's most prominent feature is its southern facade where an ornate iron balcony rests atop flamboyantly carved stone corbels, originally of defensive use. Other stonework also evokes the middle ages - two carved gargoyles protect a niche with a statue of the Virgin Mary and there are traces of gothic arches inside and out. The five units of Les Suites Sarladaises recognize the town’s vibrant medieval past through the symbolism of five mythical beasts drawn from heraldry: the unicorn, griffin, phoenix, caladrius, and salamander – the last taken from Sarat’s own coat-of-arms. Modern comfort is added to the innate coziness of ancient stones, weathered beams, fireplaces, and the patina of age. Le Phenix (Phoenix) Suite is a spacious studio (35 sq m) housed in what was once the dining room of the judges’ residence dating from 1640. It is equipped with a 160 cm queen size bed and a beautiful oval table for meals. There is a lovely Directoire style fireplace framed by early 19th century boiserie (due to fire regulations, blocked and not in use) and a clothes closet built in the thick stone wall that was once (believe it or not!) the judges' privy. High ceilings, parquet flooring, and handsome antique furniture just add color to the modern comforts - a fully functional kitchenette with fridge, hot plate, sink, and microwave, plus a roomy bathroom with sink, toilet, and shower.More

About the neighbourhood
Sarlat is the capital of the so-called Perigord Noir, the crown jewel of the Dordogne region. It is central to all the important sites like caves with prehistoric art - Lascaux is only twenty minutes away - plus the beautiful riverside and hilltop towns of the Dordogne, including its famed 1001 chateaux, outstanding gardens, and all the sporting activities like river canoeing, kayaking, bike and hiking trails, air balloon tours, etc. We are also an easy drive from famed Rocamadour, Padirac cave, and even the famed wine regions of western Bordeaux area, like Saint Emilion.
Getting around
If you wish just to chill out in this famous Medieval town, we are at 'ground zero' for your stay in historic Sarlat. We have hosted bikers who were quite satisfied with the short distances and pretty trails that lead to nearby sites of beauty and historic interest. Or you can use your car to visit almost all the important tourism sites of the Dordogne. There is also the direct train route to Bordeaux that meanders along the banks of the Dordogne river for a two and one half hour journey to view the beautiful landscape of our region.
