Lovely property in great location with easy access to Bath.
The admin before our visit was excellent with Philip quick to respond to any queries. The property is exactly as described. We were 2 adults and it had enough room but would be tight for 4. It was clean and warm which was appreciated given it got cold while we were there. The fresh flowers and brownies were a lovely touch. Freshford is a great location we hardly used the car at all relying on the train and having interesting walks on the doorstep. If visiting the area again we would be happy to return to the property and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

A peaceful and convenient location with outstanding hosts
We struck lucky on all fronts! Not only were we blessed with fabulous weather, but Abbotsleigh Cottage proved to be an idyllic venue for our much anticipated week-long holiday. We didn’t need the car once. With so much to see and do, we had days of wonderful exploration by bus, train and, of course, plenty of walks. Most of all, our hosts provided the very highest standard of hospitality which has helped to make this a very special stay. We can thoroughly recommend Abbotsleigh Cottage.

PERFECT STAY
A wonderful, totally relaxing stay in a beautifully designed and quality furnished apartment which was both stylish and comfortable. The bed is the best we have slept in! Everything is pristine and special touches on arrival made you feel truely welcomed by the hosts. They have added so many charming features such as the metal tea lights by the door which were lit for us on our return from a night out in Bath. Location is excellent to visit the city which is only a 10 minute drive away and there are many walks on your doorstep or excellent cycle rides. We used the canal tow path to cycle along to both Bradford on Avon and Bath. The local village, Freshford is delightful and we really enjoyed visiting all the small villages in the surrounding area. The hosts garden is also available to use and this is a perfect spot when you just want to chill for a few hours with a glass of wine and a good book. We will definitely return again.

A Perfect Place to Rest and Relax
This beautiful little cottage was exactly what we needed for our two night stay in February. We were visiting the University of Bath with our daughter and Abbotsleigh Cottage provided a comfortable and cozy retreat, close to Bath City Centre, for all three of us. So tastefully decorated, the cottage was step-in ready with a lovely kitchen and and sitting area, large bedroom, and a bedroom with bunk beds. Everything fresh and clean. Owners are very kind and helpful. We will be back!

Fabulous little apartment in an idyllic spot
What a lovely week we had in this beautifully appointed apartment. Everything we could need, plus the owners’ gorgeous garden to enjoy too. Thank you! We arrived with bikes on the roof and were very grateful for help to store them. DVD selection was great for the kids and they loved the bunk beds with the little lights attached. Such a treat to have little luxuries left too, delicious brownies and posh hand soap were much enjoyed. Thanks too for changing towels midway through the week and for advice on where to go and what to do. 👍 We hope to be back, thanks again! 😊

Excellent cottage rental in a picturesque location
Abbotsleigh Cottage is a ground floor rental that forms part of a larger house in the beautiful village of Freshford. The accommodations are comfortable and well-equipped and filled with the extra touches that make such holidays special. Freshford itself is peaceful and pretty. There is a community-run grocery and cafe within walking distance of the rental, and a village pub. There is also a railway station with train links to nearby Bath and Bradford-on-Avon. Philip and Naomi made us very welcome, and offered good local information about walks and amenities. Their hospitality was generous and appreciated.

About the neighbourhood
Close to the World Heritage, Roman City of Bath, Freshford is set in an area designated 'an area of outstanding natural beauty' and is a 'Conservation village' all this means that it's retained it's historic architecture and landscape. Very much a living village with always lots going on, a thriving village school, Shop and cafe, Post Office, Doctors Surgery and of course a wonderful country pub down by the river. With a rich history going back to Saxon times, several textile mills survive, now residential, weavers cottages, Manor house and even an old brewery. Freshford railway station provides frequent services to Bath and mainline services to London and in the other direction to the south coast. The Kennet and Avon canal runs close by and it's a lovely bike ride to Bath just 5 miles level ride and there's a great pub and floating cafe on a barge along the way. in the other direction is Avoncliffe with its amazing aqueduct that carries the canal high over the River Avon below. Here there's a great cafe as well the old the Cross Guns pub with it's terraces running all the way down to the river bank. A little further on down tow path is the gem of Bradford on Avon with it's enormous 14th century Tithe Barn and plethora of great little shops, cafes and restaurants. If you fancy getting on the water, it's possible to rent a day boats, canoes or bicycles from the near by Dundas Canal Visitor Centre. There's great walks in all directions, one takes you through Friary wood alongside the river to Iford, were a stone bridge with a statue of Britannia allows you cross the River Frome to Iford Manor. Famous for it's beautiful italian inspired Peto Gardens, designated Grade 1 in the National register of Historic Parks and Gardens. They serve teas here and there's a program of concerts through the summer months were you picnic in the garden before the evenings performance, need to book up in advance for this. A 5min walk up the lane from Abbotsleigh Cottage is Homewood Park hotel. Set in extensive grounds with an award winning restaurant, it also offers a hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room and heated outside swimming pool with fabulous views.
Getting around
Freshford has it's very own railway station with trains into Bath a 10min ride and running roughly every hour. It's easy to get to Oxford & London via the train.
