On the 3rd weekend in June, the Maiella Fiat 500 rally comes our way, and 60 of these iconic Italian cars of the 1960s descend on the historic hill-top town of Casoli. Come on the first weekend in July and enjoy the annual Maiella mountain walk, a 5 hour trek across the peaks above us that's sponsored by local pasta makers, De Cecco. If music's your preference, the internationally-renowned Pescara Jazz festival in mid-July every year, is a short drive away. Beautiful Italian buildings are to be found in nearby towns and villages. Our location makes it easy for you to be in the mountains in the morning, on the beach in the afternoon, and dine in the countryside under the stars. The Villa is an ideal retreat for couples, those who love the outdoor life and aficionados of architecture and history. We're perfect for your honeymoon hideaway or a romantic short break, too!

Fantastic
We stayed for 10 nights at the start of August. Kate was very hospitable and attentive. All our needs were met. We were given great advice from Steven and Kate before our arrival and during our stay. They are very knowledgeable with regards to their local area. Alex who has been volunteering with Kate was a breath of fresh air and could not do enough for us. The apartment was clean and tidy. We loved the swimming pool and there were many places to lounge in the sun. The views of the mountains from the villa were out of this world. Highly recommended if ever you visit Polombaro. A relaxing break with accommodation we would definitely return to.

Bellissimo !
We visited Villa Maieletta in May this year and were lucky enough to stay in the Casa, not only have Kate and Stephen thought of everything you could possibly need it's beautiful too, the Venetian bedroom furniture is stunning and everywhere has a luxurious but homely feel. it's hard to put into words just how beautiful it is. Kate and Stephen have put so much effort into creating a wonderful place to stay and go above and beyond to make your holiday a special experience. The surrounding countryside is breathtaking and you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere more scenic. If you've never been to Italy before and want to experience an unspoilt Italy then this is the place to visit. We'll definitely be back !

Beautiful place
After a long drive following our flight and arriving in the dark we couldn't believe we woke up in such a beautiful place! It is absolutely stunning. The villa itself is really pretty and Stephen and Kate were very friendly and accommodating. It felt like we eye holidaying amongst friends. The locals were amazing, unique characters and the surrounding villages are a must see. And not forgetting the delicious fresh food to be had. We can't wait for a return village.

Fabulous
Just returned from a fabulous stay. The villa was spotlessly clean and had everything from soft fluffy towels to a kitchen with everything needed to self cater. We were even provided with wood to get the woodburner going when the weather got chilly, which made the villa extremely cosy. Kate and Steven were friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. As we were out of season we were given a bottle of prosecco for each day of our stay, lovely.

Best place to stay in Chieti, Pescara, Abruzzo
Villa Maieletta is not just a holiday apartment but a Home to all the travelers out there. Kate & Stephen really make you feel like you are a family member from Day 1 and try to introduce you all the best places to visit in the area. I completely fell in love with this place after 5 weeks and had a hard time leaving. It’s like Hotel California, you only want to check in but you don’t want to check out! You must come & experience yourself! It’s truly a worthwhile and the best experience that no one can miss. Beautiful view of the mountains, friendly neighbors, helpful hosts, friends & adorable cat named " Long". Dear Kate & Stephen, thank you so much for your friendship and hospitality. I can’t wait until my next trip back. Love you all.

A fab holiday for those who enjoy beautiful scenery.
It was my first time here in Abruzzi, not quite knowing what to expect found the mountain area really enjoyable. There are some lovely villages around to visit Casoli, Palombaro, Pennapiedimonte, Chieti, the coastal town of Pescara is 40mins away by car,` it is also the nearest airport. The Amaro apartments where on two levels, a large bedroom & bathroom with a balcony to enjoy your first cuppa of the day on the Ist level, with a spacious lounge & Kitchenette on the ground floor all very well maintained. We stayed at the beginning of November just the time for olive picking we decided to give the owner s Kate & Steve a hand, it was really enjoyable, don't get me wrong it was hard work but found it very therapeutic, seeing the end product, delicious olive oil was brilliant. You will love driving all around this beautiful area then getting your feet up for a lovely glass of Italian wine only 3 euros a litre what more can I say Fab!!

Peaceful, picturesque, rustic, very relaxing!
We stayed for a week in October. Upon our arrival, although late in the evening, we were welcomed warmly by Kate and Stephen. We stayed in the Amaro Apartment which is absolutely gorgeous, roomy and comfortable and the kitchen was very well stocked with everything you need. There are lots of beautiful spots outside to sit and take the stunning scenery in. We never tired of waking up to the sun streaming through the doors to the balcony. We hired a car and took trips into the nearby townas and villages nestled in the mountains. It was an amazing holiday, very cultured and relaxing and one we will certainly be repeating. We are already planning a return visit!

Great location, Spacious apartment would recommend
We have stayed in the area a few times and I must say this villa has been laid out to provide really good living space, feeling spacious and extremely well equipped, absolutely everything you could need. The villa is tastefully furnished with quality fixtures and provides stunning views of the countryside. The great location and easy access is ideal for exploring the area and with a restaurant 5 minutes walk away for those nights you don't fancy cooking it was perfect. We enjoyed the silence surrounding the villa whilst only being 10/15 minutes into town. Self catering is easy with a local supermarket 10 mins away and with the fruit and veg being locally produced you can taste the freshness and wonder why your shopping cost is so much cheaper than at home! The area itself is delightful from towering mountains to quaint hilltop towns inhabited by really friendly people. Stephen and Kate were great hosts and always on hand for useful advice and making sure we had everything we needed. This all made for a fabulous week, and great value for money.

Excellent place to explore the region from
We stayed for 12 nights at Villa Maieletta and were welcomed heartily by Stephen and Kate. The villa is very well equipped with all the usual utilities in the kitchen and some extra touches that you don't usually see. Like a juicer. My husband is a tall chap and Kate even supplied us with an extra large (the biggest I've ever seen!) towel for him. The area is very Italian with the locals all very welcoming and friendly. We got the feeling they were pleased we had chosen Abruzzo to explore because it is one of the unspoiled areas of Italy. There are some lovely restaurants around and we enjoyed an evening at Flamenco, here we enjoyed excellent service and good food, reasonably priced. Pennapiedimonte is a lovely little village and if you walk to the top of the village there is a path cut into the side of the mountain that affords some fantastic views. I'd also recommend a trip to Fara San Martino. This little village is home to the mouth of a valley that you can walk into. Plenty of climbers can be seen scaling the mountain sides. All in all we had a very relaxing holiday, enjoying the simple life, the views, the food and hospitality of Stephen and Kate.

Map
About the neighbourhood
Lanciano is 25 minutes from our nearest town, Palombaro, a hill-top settlement of only 1,131 inhabitants, which sits 536 metres above sea level. It has spectacular views and is at the foot of the 2,252 meter high Martellese Mountain, one of the highest in the Maiella range. Palombaro was the Italian location for the 2011 film, “Lords of London,” featuring Ray Winstone. The beautiful church of the Assumption, first built in 1561,appears in the wedding scene. The valley walls of Palombaro are host to numerous caves. The Cave (Grotta) of St. Angelo can be found just a few kilometres away inside the remains of a medieval church, whilst the amazing Grotta del Cavallone, reached by cable car and complete with stalactites, is also nearby. It is only 45 minutes to the ski resorts of Passo Lanciano and Roccaraso Lanciano, 25 km away, is sedate, relaxing and brimming with examples of great architecture, like the Basilica of Santa Maria del Ponte, which houses an 8th century statue of the Madonna. During the festival season in August there are artistic and cultural events all over, including traditional music, modern tribute bands and fashion shows by teenagers, where there is the opportunity to learn local dances and try all kinds of food produced in the area. Other annual events include a walk through the Maiella mountains sponsored by world famous pasta makers De Cecco, and a Fiat 500 car rally in June. Olive picking at the beginning of November offers the opportunity to see the local press (frantoio) in action and sample a variety of oils. The area has a significant place in WWII military history. It is close to the Gustav and Bernhardt lines, and the site of the Battle of Ortona in December 1943. Evidence of the conflicts of the time can be found in the form of bullet holes in some of Palombaro's buildings. Villa Maieletta is in the hamlet of Limiti, 4 kilometres from Palombaro. “Festa” time here includes the Sant'Antonio festa 2 minutes walk away and the beer festival, centred around the De Vitis grocery store. The family-run store provides a unique service for such a tiny place as Limiti, and is a hive of activity owned by the amazing Maria, which includes a bar, hardware store and petrol pumps. An 'agroturismo' restaurant, which serves food produced almost entirely on its own land, is only 3 minutes walk from the Villa. A five-a-side football and a tennis court are available there for the use of our guests. Find out about all the latest attractions on our Villa Maieletta Holiday Apartments FB page.
