Sorry but i could not do it in 1 sentence it would not do Villa Maieletta justice... please see my husbands poem below
Having spent in 5 weeks travelling in Italy, it was wonderful coming to Villa Maieletta and to meet Stephen and Kate, our hosts for 5 nights. Before meeting them they already made us feel so welcome, their communication was excellent, information abounded out of every email and nothing was the slightest bit of trouble. On arriving at Villa Maieletta we were greeted with a huge smile from Stephen while he opened the driveway gate, there was a cold bottle of bubbly and water in the fridge for us we, a terrific welcome pack with all the information you would need for your stay and a lovely personal welcome from them both. Our villa was just terrific; the welcome pack with all our basics to get us settled into our home was very much appreciated. Both Jovo and I felt like we were family coming home and after our 5 days we were both sad to leave our new found friends and a jewel of a find in the Italy's Abruzzo which is off the tourist track and unchanged…..we have terrific memories of the gorgeous people we meet and astounding villages and regions we travelled…here is 1 of the poems written by Jovo whilst we stayed at Villa Maieletta… Britain is still invading If you think the Empire Has stopped its outward reach Take a trip to the Polombaro region in Italy Its in the mountains not the beach Every second person we met Has come here from the UK Buying up the local villas Planting olive trees raking hay The young seem to be missing Most moved on to the city Some lost their lives in a recent earthquake Yet the landscape is so pretty Figs and plums adorn the roads But the pot holes they prevail Don't trust your Tom Tom's directions On some tracks your car will fail The towns have their own dialects So they look upon strangers with a smile Be you from as far as Australia Or a village from ten miles Stephen and Kate our hosts Run their villa with precision Always offering trip advice Happy to assist in your decision We met Gabriela today in Maria's bar She comes from London Town Reminds me of the eccentric blond in the movie Under Tuscan Sun ... so brown Not happy with the invasion of Brits She'd prefer the place was left alone So she can chill in her Italian hideaway A place she now calls her home The people we meet ... places we visit Are all part of our adventure now Even if in this region you feel They are still living in the 70's somehow We also met Vincenzo A builder from Perth escaping the cold Here in holidays yet helping with building advice To more local Poms ... oh what stories to be told Poems by Jovo

Sumptuous views, dramatic hikes and perfect hosts
The owners, Stephen and Kate, were waiting to receive us on our arrival in 35 degrees of Italian summer and welcomed us with a cold beer each. They remained the perfect hosts thereafter, providing advice on the local area, walks and hikes, suggestions on local amenities and Stephen even joined me on an early morning run. The majestic views of both the 2500 metre Majella mountain range and the more serene valley below Palombaro were a stunning backdrop for breakfast. The apartment was well kept and well stocked with all that you'd need to self cater - and if there's something else you need then Kate will almost certainly have it! The windows and balcony doors are netted and shuttered allowing you to choose to shut the heat out or allow the breeze through (without the mosquitoes!). In 15 minutes you'll have direct access to walks and hikes in the Majella range, 30 minutes to the spectacular Fara St Martino Gorge and 20 minutes to the wide range of facilities in Casoli. The venue is ideal for hikers, cyclists & skiers - indeed anyone with an active holiday in mind; or to just relax and solk up the indefatigable Italian hospitality, culture and culinary delights. Palombaro is a short (if energetic!) walk or a 10 minute drive and is worth sampling both for the pace of local life and the superb Trattoria Dal Pagano restaurant (try the montepulciano d'abruzzo wine!!).

Italian tranquility with great cycling, scenery and unspoilt landscapes
Villa Maieletta was a great experience in all respects, the accommodation is lovely in all respects, the location is secluded with great access to the surrounding area by car or cycle or walking. For the serious / semi serious cyclist the location offers great challenges all around the valley and our group managed many enjoyable climbs and descents to all the surrounding towns and villages and we even dragged Stephen (owner) along, the owners Stephen and Kate make the italian experience in this unspoilt region even better and provided great support and advice.

The perfect place to relax and meet the locals!
A fantastic setting on the hillside with terrific views and a wonderful welcome from the owners Kate and Stephen (and their two Thai cats). If you are looking for a holiday that provides relaxation in the Italian countryside with the opportunity to meet local Abrruzzese, this is the place for you. We picked mulberries and cherries from the garden, met the neighbours and practised our Italian. If you visit Villa Maieletta, you must take a short trip down the road to meet Maria at the local shop and Sunday lunch at the Agriturismo is a must - 4 hours and 9 courses. Above all, Kate and Stephen will ensure that you have everything you need to chill and enjoy your holiday. We will be back.

Mountain splendor!
We arrived after dark and were utterly surprised by the spectacular view in the morning! The mountains surround the property in stunning beauty and the crisp clean air fills your lungs. The apartment was compact but cosy and was stocked with everything we needed for the week we were there. The bed was fabulous, with high end linens, soft down pillows and a very comfortable mattress. Everything was clean and the apartment was tastefully decorated. Stephen and Kate, our hosts, went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and at home. They had recommendations for places to go, things to see and where to eat. We truly became friends during this trip. There is a lot to do in the surrounding area, from the mountains to the crystal blue Adriatic Sea, with loads of wonderful villages to explore in between. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone desiring a restful get away!

Simply Amazing; the view, the apartments, the welcome, the Prosecco ...
My Husband and Mother accompanied me on this most amazing short break. We were all made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Both apartments had glorious views and balconies. It was difficult to decide which apartment to meet in, to take our breakfast together. There is nothing quite like waking up to bright sunshine in the mountains and being able to picnic by the beach for lunch, and then be fully waited on in a local family restaurant, recommended by the owners, for our evening meal. We will certainly be returning and I recommend Villa Maieletta to everyone who would like a real taste of Italy with an extremely warm welcome. The owners could not do enough for us and went out of their way to make our stay unforgetable.

Peace and tranquillity
I have just spent a week at this beautiful villa. To wake up each day and go onto the veranda and see the fantastic backdrop of the Miella mountains was invigorating. It was so peaceful and quiet that I was taken in by the calm and beauty of the area and felt totally regenerated by the time I came to leave. The apartment was excellent with all the facilities that you need to hand and more, my room was tastefully decorated and very clean and I felt very comfortable throughout my stay. The owner Kate, was a lovely lady who I had many chats with about the area and places to visit and also about her garden, she told me about a festival in a nearby town, which had the best firework display that I have ever seen. Overall this was a wonderful place to stay and I will be returning next year to recharge my batteries.

Unspoilt Italy in a beautiful setting

Lovely place, I would defenitely recommend it
We stayed in the 'Cavallone' apartment which has a huge terasse with great view onto the mountains and a BBQ which we used several times. The flat was very clean, well equipped and spacious (we loved the walk-in shower). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay as we were very well looked after. The hosts, Kate and Stephen, were extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. It really was what you call 'a home away from home'.

Map
About the neighbourhood
Lanciano is 25 minutes from our nearest town, Palombaro, a hill-top settlement of only 1,131 inhabitants, which sits 536 metres above sea level. It has spectacular views and is at the foot of the 2,252 meter high Martellese Mountain, one of the highest in the Maiella range. Palombaro was the Italian location for the 2011 film, “Lords of London,” featuring Ray Winstone. The beautiful church of the Assumption, first built in 1561,appears in the wedding scene. The valley walls of Palombaro are host to numerous caves. The Cave (Grotta) of St. Angelo can be found just a few kilometres away inside the remains of a medieval church, whilst the amazing Grotta del Cavallone, reached by cable car and complete with stalactites, is also nearby. It is only 45 minutes to the ski resorts of Passo Lanciano and Roccaraso Lanciano, 25 km away, is sedate, relaxing and brimming with examples of great architecture, like the Basilica of Santa Maria del Ponte, which houses an 8th century statue of the Madonna. During the festival season in August there are artistic and cultural events all over, including traditional music, modern tribute bands and fashion shows by teenagers, where there is the opportunity to learn local dances and try all kinds of food produced in the area. Other annual events include a walk through the Maiella mountains sponsored by world famous pasta makers De Cecco, and a Fiat 500 car rally in June. Olive picking at the beginning of November offers the opportunity to see the local press (frantoio) in action and sample a variety of oils. The area has a significant place in WWII military history. It is close to the Gustav and Bernhardt lines, and the site of the Battle of Ortona in December 1943. Evidence of the conflicts of the time can be found in the form of bullet holes in some of Palombaro's buildings. Villa Maieletta is in the hamlet of Limiti, 4 kilometres from Palombaro. “Festa” time here includes the Sant'Antonio festa 2 minutes walk away and the beer festival, centred around the De Vitis grocery store. The family-run store provides a unique service for such a tiny place as Limiti, and is a hive of activity owned by the amazing Maria, which includes a bar, hardware store and petrol pumps. An 'agroturismo' restaurant, which serves food produced almost entirely on its own land, is only 3 minutes walk from the Villa. A five-a-side football and a tennis court are available there for the use of our guests. Find out about all the latest attractions on our Villa Maieletta Holiday Apartments FB page.
