It is the most elevated apartment at the Villa and takes full advantage of the views with balconies on three sides, which offer a variety of spectacular vistas from a shady spot at any time of day. The bedroom looks out towards olive groves and the Maiella mountains beyond them. The bedroom environment is delightful, with the finest imported Indian 400 count cotton sheets, white goose down pillows, and embroidered damask bedspreads. An exotic bed canopy completes the scene. A well-equipped newly fitted modern kitchen, in rustic style, provides a pleasurable environment for food preparation and eating. It is combined with a comfortable lounge and sitting area. We offer packed lunches and vegetarian evening meals, by arrangement. Live the Italian life. Experience and enjoy the rhythms of rural Italy that surround us from the porchetta van and cafe culture to events celebrating the olive and grape harvests. The festa month of August has an array of unique activities that include a wild boar festival in Pennapiedimonte, Chilli Pepper weekend, the Beer Festival in Limiti (1km down the road) and musical events that extend into September in historic Lanciano. Enjoy one of our Shabby Chic workshops in Autumn or join us for an olive harvesting holiday in November, when you can pick your own olives and return home with the oil from the fruits of your labours. Retire to your apartment to relax and rest in a luxurious environment of classic Italian splendour. We're situated amidst great cycling, motorcycling and walking country, and offer guided road cycle tours, MTB rides along the historic WWII Gustav Line or Adriatic coast. Mountain bikes are available for the use of guests, and road cycles can be hired nearby. The Giro D'Italia frequently visits the area. Organised tours are also available by chauffer-driven classic car or motor cycle (including bike rental). The area has a significant place in military history, being close to the Gustav & Bernhardt lines, and the site of the Battle of Ortona. Evidence of the conflicts of the time can be found in the form of bullet holes in some of Palombaro's buildings. On the 3rd weekend in June, the Maiella Fiat 500 rally comes our way, and 60 or so of these iconic Italian cars of the 1960s descend on the historic hill-top town of Casoli. Come on the first weekend in July and enjoy the annual Maiella mountain walk, a 5 hour trek across the peaks above us that's sponsored by local pasta makers, De Cecco. If music's your preference, the internationally-renowned Pescara Jazz festival in July is a short drive away. Combine a holiday in our stunning location with on-site English language tuition from Kate and Stephen, who are experienced teachers and text book authors. If you're interested in buying a house in the area we can guide you on that as well, using the experiences we've gained and what we've learned. At Villa Maieletta you can be in the mountains in the morning, on the beach in the afternoon, and dine in the countryside under the stars. The Villa is an ideal retreat for couples, those who love the outdoor life and aficionados of architecture and history. Just perfect, too, for your honeymoon hideaway or a romantic short break.

Perfect Location to relax and get away from it all
We had a wonderful time at the property with everything needed available. The owners made it very easy to arrange everything and we enjoyed the location almost by ourselves as they were out of town. Everything is very clean and arranged with a great eye for details. The surrounding area is stunning and there is plenty to discover. It felt like an Italian experience that is rare these days with mass tourism.

Comfortable Villa with Great Views
The Martellese was a small but comfortable villa that was more than adequate for two people especially considering the very fair price. It was tastefully decorated with some beautiful antique pieces and a very comfortable canopy bed. The kitchen was adequate for our purposes but did not have an oven or much counter space. We were able to prepare simple meals without too much problem. One of the best things about the villa was the views. From the windows and three different balconies, one could view nearby mountains and towns as well as the beautiful property where the villa sat. Both sunrises and sunsets were breathtaking. We were also impressed by the hospitality of our hosts who live onsite. Kate and Stephen were generous in providing a bottle of wine and some food items and were very helpful in suggesting places to visit and directions to get places. We enjoyed talking to Kate (Stephen was away for the majority of our stay) about a variety of subjects. The one thing we would like to see would be a door in the empty doorway between the bedroom and the kitchen/living room. This would make it quieter if one person were awake and wanted to read, etc. and the other was sleeping. Again, overall, this villa was quite pleasant and was a very good value.

natuur

Relaxing break.
We loved this place. Our apartment had everything we needed and was spacious with 2 balconies and a terrace providing plenty of options for sitting and relaxing. Fantastic views up to Palombaro and the mountains beyond. The newly installed pool was great to cool off in at the end of a hot day as well. All in all this is a lovely and easy place to spend time and relax. Its also got a games/TV room dominated by a snooker table. I've lost my touch ! Its set in a small village called Limiti which has shops and an agriturismo with restaurant but we used neither. There is plenty to see and do to keep you occupied. Palombaro and Casoli are close by and worth a visit though Palombaro is extremely quiet altough you do get some nice views from up there. We also went up into the mountains to Passo Lanciano which is pretty spectacular. We found the caves at Cavallone (?) a bit pricey though. 20 Euros each. The roads can be a bit dicey in places, though not as bad as some parts of Abruzzo we have visited.

Arrived as guests and left as friends
In a truly gorgeous setting, the Villas are maintained to a high standard with all the mod cons you need and many additional ones you just need to ask for. Stephen and Kate are simply wonderful, the community around them are warm and Maria (lady who owns the local shop) is an absolute gem. The region is steeped in history including Roman Walls, WWII sites and age old Italian architecture with the added bonus of mountains, and coast lines to die for within easy reach. Olive trees dominate the region, as they should, and the tranquil nature of the villas setting will have you relaxed the instant you arrive. A short transfer from Pescara airport, this collection of Villas and small house is accessible for all. Coupled with activities put on by Stephen and Kate through the year including Shabby Chic Workshops and Guided cycling tours as well as being shown around the area with their extensive knowledge and passion for the area, we cant recommend a holiday here highly enough!! If you don't go YOU are missing out.

A special place
We wanted to relax and enjoy beautiful surroundings, and this was the place! Stunning scenery with green hills, ancient hilltop towns, snow capped peaks, olive groves, swooping birds, flowers and herbs. The apartments are luxurious but simple, with top quality beds, furniture, furnishing and supersoft towels. There are balconies, a terrace and an amazing swing seat to soak in a wonderful view. Abruzzo is incredibly beautiful, with many small towns to discover in the nearby hills. A local shop has fantastic produce and good prices and a lovely welcome. The sea is a short drive away and Rome can be seen in a day trip. There are stunning walks, including an incredible gorge with waterfalls. Fireflies at night, songbirds and falcons by day. On top of all this is a real sense of home - Kate and Stephen are fantastic hosts and have made something special here. You can also volunteer in spring and autumn to make marmalade and olive oil - get involved!

A beautiful apartment in a beautiful location.
A beautiful apartment with a real touch of luxury. Everything had been thought about by the owners including the very useful arrival pack. Kate and Stephen were extremely helpful and went out of their way to ensure we had a memorable holiday. Nothing was too much trouble. The apartment was spotlessly clean. The furnishings had been really well thought out-- in fact, the photographs do not do it justice. The location was superb ,set among the vine yards and olive groves. The views from all 3 balconies were fantastic, rolling hills, hill top villages and mountain ranges. It was such a beautiful ,unspoiled area with really welcoming local people. Ideal for walking and cycling (we did not hire a car) and the local pool was terrific. Highly recommended.

Fantastic place run by lovely people
The Martellese apartment was just what we were hoping for, immaculate, well maintained and equipped with everything we needed for a week's stay. Kate and Stephen were warm, knowledgable and enthusiastic hosts. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others or to return one day ourselves.

Map
About the neighbourhood
Palombaro is a hill-top town with a mere 1,131 inhabitants, which sits 536 metres above sea level. It boasts spectacular views over the Valley dell'Avello and is at the foot of the 2,252 metre high Martellese Mountain, one of the highest in the Maiella range. Palombaro was the Italian location for the 2011 film, “Lords of London,” which features Ray Winstone and Glen Murphy. The beautiful church of the Assumption, which dates back to 1561, appears in the wedding scene. The valley walls of Palombaro are host to numerous caves. The Cave (Grotta) of St. Angelo can be found just a few kilometres away inside the remains of a medieval church, whilst the amazing Grotta del Cavallone, reached by cable car and complete with stalactites, is also nearby. It is only 45 minutes to the ski resorts of Passo Lanciano and Roccaraso Lanciano, 25 km away, is sedate, relaxing and brimming with examples of great architecture, like the Basilica of Santa Maria del Ponte, which houses an 8th century statue of the Madonna. During the festival season in August there are artistic and cultural events all over, including traditional music, modern tribute bands and fashion shows by teenagers, where there is the opportunity to learn local dances and try all kinds of food produced in the area. Other annual events include a walk through the Maiella mountains sponsored by world famous pasta makers De Cecco, and a Fiat 500 car rally in June. Olive picking at the beginning of November offers the opportunity to see the local press (frantoio) in action and sample a variety of oils. The area has a significant place in WWII military history. It is close to the Gustav and Bernhardt lines, and the site of the Battle of Ortona in December 1943. Evidence of the conflicts of the time can be found in the form of bullet holes in some of Palombaro's buildings. Villa Maieletta is in the hamlet of Limiti, 4 kilometres from Palombaro. “Festa” time here includes the Sant'Antonio festa 2 minutes walk away and the beer festival, centred around the De Vitis grocery store. The family-run store provides a unique service for such a tiny place as Limiti, and is a hive of activity owned by the amazing Maria, which includes a bar, hardware store and petrol pumps. An 'agroturismo' restaurant, which serves food produced almost entirely on its own land, is only 3 minutes walk from the Villa. A five-a-side football and tennis court are available there for the use of our guests..
Getting around
There are a lot more options with a car. We do sometimes have guests who don't have a car, who are walkers or people who like to relax within the Villa grounds, or in the pool. Peace and tranquillity is one of the most enjoyable things about being here, along with the wildlife around us. It's a great place to relax.
Access

How to get there
Villa Maieletta is just an hour away from Pescara Airport; Ancona Airport is a short two hour drive away. Rome Ciampino can be reached by car in two and a quarter hours, with Rome Fiumicino only a little further away. Return flights for a couple from London Stansted on Ryan Air can be bought for less than £70. There is a frequent and inexpensive coach service between Rome and Pescara which takes a similar amount of time. A wide range of car hire desks can be found in airport arrival halls, with some of the most competitive rates offered on airline websites.
