The Villa is on a quiet country lane close to the historic hill-top town of Palombaro, with unrivalled views of the Abruzzo landscape. It is the most elevated apartment at the Villa and takes full advantage of the views with balconies on three sides, which offer a variety of spectacular vistas from a shady spot at any time of day. The bedroom looks out towards olive groves and the Maiella mountains beyond them. The bedroom environment is delightful, with the finest imported Indian 400 count cotton sheets, white goose down pillows, and embroidered damask bedspreads. An exotic bed canopy completes the scene. A well-equipped newly fitted modern kitchen, in rustic style, provides a pleasurable environment for food preparation and eating. It is combined with a comfortable lounge and sitting area. We offer packed lunches and vegetarian evening meals, by arrangement. Live the Italian life. Experience and enjoy the rhythms of rural Italy that surround us from the porchetta van and cafe culture to events celebrating the olive and grape harvests. The festa month of August has an array of unique activities that include a wild boar festival in Pennapiedimonte, Chilli Pepper weekend, the Beer Festival in Limiti (1km down the road) and musical events that extend into September in historic Lanciano. Enjoy one of our Shabby Chic workshops in Autumn or join us for an olive harvesting holiday in November, when you can pick your own olives and return home with the oil from the fruits of your labours. Retire to your apartment to relax and rest in a luxurious environment of classic Italian splendour. We're situated amidst great cycling, motorcycling and walking country, and offer guided road cycle tours, MTB rides along the historic WWII Gustav Line or Adriatic coast. Mountain bikes are available for the use of guests, and road cycles can be hired nearby. The Giro D'Italia frequently visits the area. Organised tours are also available by chauffer-driven classic car or motor cycle (including bike rental). The area has a significant place in military history, being close to the Gustav & Bernhardt lines, and the site of the Battle of Ortona. Evidence of the conflicts of the time can be found in the form of bullet holes in some of Palombaro's buildings. On the 3rd weekend in June, the Maiella Fiat 500 rally comes our way, and 60 or so of these iconic Italian cars of the 1960s descend on the historic hill-top town of Casoli. Come on the first weekend in July and enjoy the annual Maiella mountain walk, a 5 hour trek across the peaks above us that's sponsored by local pasta makers, De Cecco. If music's your preference, the internationally-renowned Pescara Jazz festival in July is a short drive away. Combine a holiday in our stunning location with on-site English language tuition from Kate and Stephen, who are experienced teachers and text book authors. If you're interested in buying a house in the area we can guide you on that as well, using the experiences we've gained and what we've learned. At Villa Maieletta you can be in the mountains in the morning, on the beach in the afternoon, and dine in the countryside under the stars. The Villa is an ideal retreat for couples, those who love the outdoor life and aficionados of architecture and history. Just perfect, too, for your honeymoon hideaway or a romantic short break.

Fantastic views, brilliant accommodation, a lovely 'taste of Italy'.
Had a lovely week, ideal location for cycling enthusiasts, or just a quiet place if you need to just chill out and de-stress. Excellent hosts, Kate and Stephen.

Bset of all worlds
I stayed at Villa Maileitta in May to see some of the Giro and ride out with my son. I find it located excellently for the mountains or the sea and we achieved both by bike. The owners Stephen and Kate are most welcoming and nothing is too much trouble, they are both very knowledgeable regarding the area and can put you in touch with a very economical bike hire shop providing top quality bikes. The apartments are very well appointed, the gardens ample and the scenery spectacular. Local produce available from a shop nearby and restaurant with pool a five minute walk. Excellent value, highly recommended.

Enjoy the peace and amazing mountain views from your balcony
We stayed in May, which was off season but still lovely and warm-warm enough to have every meal outside on the balcony. The apartment was well equipped and the bedroom beautifully decorated. Ideal for people who enjoy walking, keen cyclists or those who just enjoy wandering round the beautiful surrounding villages and countryside. Stephen and Kate were very hospitable and kind. We arrived very late having got a bit lost, but they waited up to make sure we arrived safely and were on hand to answer any queries we had throughout the stay. The welcome pack was also a lovely touch to see us through to the next day. Make sure you pay frequent visits to Maria's local shop which sells local produce, very reasonably. Also, speak to Stephen and Kate about making a reservation at the local restaurant. We didn't go, but it has fantastic reviews. Would thoroughly recommend for a great getaway, very reasonably priced.

A good base for exploring by road cycle
Villa Maieletta is in a quiet corner location with great views of the Majella Massif. It is well located for a bike ride up the Giro d'Itallia giant Blockhaus and for road cyling around the local area; though road surface can be variable. The appartment was very clean and exactly as described. The owners, Stephen & Kate, were keen to ensure a pleasurable stay

Great apartment, lovely area, super people
We were looking for a quiet and relaxing holiday and this was exactly what we had. The area is beautiful, close to Abruzzo's national parks. The apartment was excellent, beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean and well equipped - combined with the wonderful views from the bedroom window, it proved to be a perfect location. Owners Stephen and Kate couldn't have been more welcoming or helpful. They were always on hand if you needed anything, but never intrusive. It was really useful to be able to seek advice on places to visit and they are both extremely freindly and obliging - perfect hosts. We very much enjoyed our stay and would certainly recommend the apartment to others. We intend to go back again.

Majestic Martellese
The welcome from Kate and Stephen is both warm and genuine - reflecting the hospitality of the local villagers and the Abruzzio region in general. The apartment is luxurious and thoughtfully planned out. It includes all your essentials and extra items - in fact everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. A visit to Lanciano - a wonderful Roman/Medieval town is really recommended by us as is the coast - about 30km away. There are many seaside resorts to visit from Fossacasia [well equipped if a little stoney] to Lido di Morge [quieter but more sand]. during August the Festa season is all around and every trip we made had its own special magic + magnificent firework displays. A car is essential and the roads are pot-holed - but hey - this is Italy - we wouldn't mant it any other way! Enjoy Mary and Chris

Wonderful and relaxing stay
We stayed at the beautiful Martellese Apartment, with 2 balconies and a small terrace with calming views of the countryside. The apartment was clean and beautifully furnished, the bedroom a relaxing haven with a comfortable mattress and luxurius linen. The kitchen was very well-equipped, which made cooking stress free. The hosts Stephen and Kate made us feel very welcome from the first e-mail exchanges on. The fig trees on the property were full of ripe fruit and we were encouraged to eat as many as we wanted. It was a real treat as was the stay in Villa Maielletta as a whole. We would definitely come again!

Luxury in fantastic surroundings, the wow factor in the real Italy
The apartment is very well equipped, absolutely everything you could want, right down to picnic bag and chairs. Martellese gives a standard of luxury comparable with a five star hotel, spacious and bright it was a pleasure to come back to after a day out. Normally we always go out for the day but the apartment and the surroundings tempted us to have the odd day just chilling out in the vicinity. Self catering is easy with a local supermarket 10 mins away and the quality of the fruit and veg is very good, you can taste the freshness. The area itself is delightful from towering mountains to quaint hilltop towns inhabited by very friendly people. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners Kate and Steve and they are gathering a good knowledge of the local area, although this is a new venture for them, their vast experience of travelling means that they know what the discerning holiday maker/traveller is looking for. We loved everything about our two week holiday and left very reluctantly

Map
About the neighbourhood
Palombaro is a hill-top town with a mere 1,131 inhabitants, which sits 536 metres above sea level. It boasts spectacular views over the Valley dell'Avello and is at the foot of the 2,252 metre high Martellese Mountain, one of the highest in the Maiella range. Palombaro was the Italian location for the 2011 film, “Lords of London,” which features Ray Winstone and Glen Murphy. The beautiful church of the Assumption, which dates back to 1561, appears in the wedding scene. The valley walls of Palombaro are host to numerous caves. The Cave (Grotta) of St. Angelo can be found just a few kilometres away inside the remains of a medieval church, whilst the amazing Grotta del Cavallone, reached by cable car and complete with stalactites, is also nearby. It is only 45 minutes to the ski resorts of Passo Lanciano and Roccaraso Lanciano, 25 km away, is sedate, relaxing and brimming with examples of great architecture, like the Basilica of Santa Maria del Ponte, which houses an 8th century statue of the Madonna. During the festival season in August there are artistic and cultural events all over, including traditional music, modern tribute bands and fashion shows by teenagers, where there is the opportunity to learn local dances and try all kinds of food produced in the area. Other annual events include a walk through the Maiella mountains sponsored by world famous pasta makers De Cecco, and a Fiat 500 car rally in June. Olive picking at the beginning of November offers the opportunity to see the local press (frantoio) in action and sample a variety of oils. The area has a significant place in WWII military history. It is close to the Gustav and Bernhardt lines, and the site of the Battle of Ortona in December 1943. Evidence of the conflicts of the time can be found in the form of bullet holes in some of Palombaro's buildings. Villa Maieletta is in the hamlet of Limiti, 4 kilometres from Palombaro. “Festa” time here includes the Sant'Antonio festa 2 minutes walk away and the beer festival, centred around the De Vitis grocery store. The family-run store provides a unique service for such a tiny place as Limiti, and is a hive of activity owned by the amazing Maria, which includes a bar, hardware store and petrol pumps. An 'agroturismo' restaurant, which serves food produced almost entirely on its own land, is only 3 minutes walk from the Villa. A five-a-side football and tennis court are available there for the use of our guests..
Getting around
There are a lot more options with a car. We do sometimes have guests who don't have a car, who are walkers or people who like to relax within the Villa grounds, or in the pool. Peace and tranquillity is one of the most enjoyable things about being here, along with the wildlife around us. It's a great place to relax.

How to get there
Villa Maieletta is just an hour away from Pescara Airport; Ancona Airport is a short two hour drive away. Rome Ciampino can be reached by car in two and a quarter hours, with Rome Fiumicino only a little further away. Return flights for a couple from London Stansted on Ryan Air can be bought for less than £70. There is a frequent and inexpensive coach service between Rome and Pescara which takes a similar amount of time. A wide range of car hire desks can be found in airport arrival halls, with some of the most competitive rates offered on airline websites.
