It is the most easily accessed apartment at the Villa and benefits from a huge 80 square metre sun terrace which has superb panoramic views. After dark the terrace doubles as an outdoor observatory, providing a wonderful window on the night sky. The bedroom environment is delightful, with the finest imported Indian 400 count cotton sheets, white goose down pillows, and embroidered damask bedspreads. An exotic bed canopy completes the scene. The bedroom looks out on a hundred year old olive tree and the elevated town of Palombaro, with the Maiella mountains as a backdrop. The four piece bathroom comes complete with a spacious walk-in shower and Hallmark Christy towels. A well-equipped modern kitchen, provides an adequate and roomy area for food preparation and eating. It is combined with a comfortable lounge and sitting area. We offer packed lunches and vegetarian evening meals, by arrangement. Live the Italian life. Experience and enjoy the rhythms of rural Italy that surround us from the porchetta van and cafe culture to events celebrating the olive and grape harvests. The festa month of August has an array of unique activities that include a wild boar festival in Pennapiedimonte, Chilli Pepper weekend, the Beer Festival in Limiti (1km down the road) and musical events that extend into September in historic Lanciano. Enjoy one of our Shabby Chic workshops in Autumn or join us for an olive harvesting holiday in November, when you can pick your own olives and return home with the oil from the fruits of your labours. Retire to your apartment to relax and rest in a luxurious environment of classic Italian splendour. We're situated amidst great cycling, motorcycling and walking country, and offer guided road cycle tours, MTB rides along the historic WWII Gustav Line or Adriatic coast. Mountain bikes are available for the use of guests, and road cycles can be hired nearby. The Giro D'Italia frequently visits the area. Organised tours are also available by chauffer-driven classic car or motor cycle (including bike rental). The area has a significant place in military history, being close to the Gustav & Bernhardt lines, and the site of the Battle of Ortona. Evidence of the conflicts of the time can be found in the form of bullet holes in some of Palombaro's buildings. On the 3rd weekend in June, the Maiella Fiat 500 rally comes our way, and 60 or so of these iconic Italian cars of the 1960s descend on the historic hill-top town of Casoli. Come on the first weekend in July and enjoy the annual Maiella mountain walk, a 5 hour trek across the peaks above us that's sponsored by local pasta makers, De Cecco. If music's your preference, the internationally-renowned Pescara Jazz festival every July is a short drive away. Combine a holiday in our stunning location with on-site English language tuition from Kate and Stephen, who are experienced teachers and text book authors. If you're interested in buying a house in the area we can guide you on that as well, using the experiences we've gained and what we've learned. At Villa Maieletta you can be in the mountains in the morning, on the beach in the afternoon, and dine in the countryside under the stars. The Villa is an ideal retreat for couples, those who love the outdoor life and aficionados of architecture and history. Perfect, too, for your honeymoon hideaway or a romantic short break.

A warm Abruzzo welcome
A great week re-visiting the area, and using the Cavallone as our base to relax in the cool of the apartment, or on the huge private terrace (fab views), and cool off in the pool. The property was very clean, and Kate was very discrete, but could be easily found to provide information on where to eat, walk in the Majella, the best quiet beaches and more.... The apartment is ideally situated for visiting this part of Abruzzo, and it was really nice to be able to walk to the local shop in the morning (Maria's in Limiti) for our daily bread, and use the local Agriturismo for tennis (followed by beer) and a feast of local fresh food and plenty of wine. Nice to go somewhere where the pace of life is slower and people are so friendly. We will be back!

Relaxation, always with help at hand
We found this property online at short notice, and we're so glad we did. Kate and Stephen were extremely helpful in making our booking possible, and we were delighted to find this haven of relaxation up in the Abruzzo hills. The apartment was beautifully furnished and well equipped, and we were immediately made to feel we could be a part of the 'community' as much or as little as we wanted. Advice on local amenities and the area in general was offered unconditionally, and consequently we spent six days seeing the area with useful background knowledge and 'local' recommendation at all times. It's only a pity we had to move on so soon.

Relaxing stay in a comfortable apartment
Our host, Kate, was very welcoming and the accommodation was very good. It was a good base to explore the surrounding towns like Palombaro, Guardiareale and the gorge at Fara San Martino. Kate's fig jam was A1.

The perfect holiday
We really loved staying with Kate and Stephen. The appartement was really nice, inside it's rather small but very functional. The balcony is spectaculair! it's big, quiet and lovely to sit on. There are relaxing chairs, a dinner table and an olive tree hanging right over it. The views we astonishing! a couple of big mountains and that's it. Also a big plus on the property is the pool. Is a prefect way to cool down after a day of exploring the suroundings or you can also just stay in for a day and relax in the sun, enjoying the quietness. Kate is a really nice lady who will do everything to make you're stay as comfortable as possible. (one more tip: don't forget to try the fresh viges you can take right of the trees :) )

Picturesque and relaxing surroundings
During the booking process we received great communication with Stephen and Kate, giving use good directions from the airport and ideas of places to visit. We received a warm welcome from Kate on arrival, even though it was late at night, with a welcome pack of essential items to help us settle in. There is a local shop selling local produce and all the basics you would need, plus a supermarket not far way. We stayed in the Cavallone apartment which was very comfortable, roomy and was well equipped with everything you would need. It was lovely to sit out on the sun terrace and admire the wonderful views. We hired a car from the airport and spent some days visiting the local area, getting a feel of unspoilt Italy. The mountains, which are ideal for walking and hiking are a short drive away, with the coast only a 40 minute drive in the other direction. There are plenty of places to visit in the area including stunning views, lakes, villages, towns, the coast, restaurants and much more. Kate was always on hand to give us advise of places and areas to visit, lending us books and maps to help us find our way. We had a wonderful relaxing holiday and intend to return again in the future

Wonderful and relaxing with stunning views.
We had a fantastic time at Villa Maieletta and would thoroughly recommend it as a destination for anyone wanting a peaceful and tranquil holiday environment. Stephen and Kate are fantastic hosts and were always approachable, welcoming us daily with friendly smiles and providing us with a wealth of invaluable information about the local area. We stayed in the Martellese apartment, which is as luxurious and picturesque as described. The views from the apartment balcony of the Maiella mountains are sumptuous and will certainly not disappoint and there are many other fantastic sites and places to visit in the area as a whole. In particular we would recommend a day spent visiting Grotta del Cavallone followed by dinner in ab beautiful town called Salmona.

Superb accommodation in a delightful setting - not to be missed.
The location is brilliant with wonderful views. An ideal place from which to explore the surrounding country side and neighbouring villages. The accommodation is superb, having everything that one could possibly need, including an excellent shower. The village shop is very handy and is only a short walk away as is the agriturisme providing fantastic meals at very reasonable prices. The owners made us most welcome and were very helpful with information concerning the area.

The perfect place to see the real Italy.
Villa Maieletta offers the ideal Italian countryside retreat. Kate and Steve are the perfect hosts; welcoming, friendly and willing to share their own pressed olive oil should you run out. The apartments have modern, well-equipped kitchens and bathrooms whereas the bedroom offers something more traditional; antique bedroom furniture providing the perfect retreat and leading to a private balcony with panoramic views. Kate and Steve’s knowledge of the local region is invaluable. They can point you in the right direction for a festival (of which there are many) or recommend places of local interest. For the more active, they can devise walking, running or cycle routes from novice to expert. A great way to sample local life as it actually is. Villa Maieletta’s jewel in its crown is its location. Nestled at the foot of Polambaro and overlooking Parco Nazionale Della Majella, Villa Maieletta offers stunning and uninterrupted views of an ocean of green peppered with woodland, fruit trees and olive groves. Don’t bother wearing a watch; let the sun and church bells argue amongst themselves and enjoy all that Villa Maieletta has to offer.

Fantastic apartment with stunning views
We arrived hot and tired from Pescara, but the welcome from Kate and Stephen with cold Prosecco was wonderful.A remote mountain location with magnificent views in all directions ,that can be appreciated from the large bright sun terrace. The spotlessly clean apartments offer every convenience. The nearby pool costing 5€ per person was a refreshing bonus.Nearby local restaurants and shops provided excellent sustenance, however little English is spoken.A hire car is essential plus nerves of steel to negotiate the winding mountain roads! We would thoroughly recommend a holiday at these apartments.

First time in Abruzzo
We would certainly recommend both Abruzzo and the Villa Maieletta to anyone planning a holiday in Italy. The villa is located between the mountains and the Adriatic and has views of the mountains and nearby hill top towns. The village is a 10 minute walk away, with a very well stocked shop run by a charming and helpfull family. The local restaurant is a 5 minute walk away and must be booked in advance.Make sure you are very hungry and allow plenty of time to enjoy exceptional hospitality. Our apartment was just right for us,with the bedroom opening onto our own terrace where we could sunbathe or eat breakfast in the morning sunshine. The kitchen was well equipped but we did have to request a toaster. Our hosts could not have been more helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them.including trying to get the Wimbledon mens final live! Our last night was spent on our terrace taking a glass of wine with Kate and Steven ,all in all, a delightful holiday.

Map
About the neighbourhood
Palombaro is a hill-top town with a mere 1,131 inhabitants, which sits 536 metres above sea level. It boasts spectacular views over the Valley dell'Avello and is at the foot of the 2,252 metre high Martellese Mountain, one of the highest in the Maiella range. Palombaro was the Italian location for the 2011 film, “Lords of London,” which features Ray Winstone and Glen Murphy. The beautiful church of the Assumption, which dates back to 1561, appears in the wedding scene. The valley walls of Palombaro are host to numerous caves. The Cave (Grotta) of St. Angelo can be found just a few kilometres away inside the remains of a medieval church, whilst the amazing Grotta del Cavallone, reached by cable car and complete with stalactites, is also nearby. It is only 45 minutes to the ski resorts of Passo Lanciano and Roccaraso Lanciano, 25 km away, is sedate, relaxing and brimming with examples of great architecture, like the Basilica of Santa Maria del Ponte, which houses an 8th century statue of the Madonna. During the festival season in August there are artistic and cultural events all over, including traditional music, modern tribute bands and fashion shows by teenagers, where there is the opportunity to learn local dances and try all kinds of food produced in the area. Other annual events include a walk through the Maiella mountains sponsored by world famous pasta makers De Cecco, and a Fiat 500 car rally in June. Olive picking at the beginning of November offers the opportunity to see the local press (frantoio) in action and sample a variety of oils. The area has a significant place in WWII military history. It is close to the Gustav and Bernhardt lines, and the site of the Battle of Ortona in December 1943. Evidence of the conflicts of the time can be found in the form of bullet holes in some of Palombaro's buildings. Villa Maieletta is in the hamlet of Limiti, 4 kilometres from Palombaro. “Festa” time here includes the Sant'Antonio festa 2 minutes walk away and the beer festival, centred around the De Vitis grocery store. The family-run store provides a unique service for such a tiny place as Limiti, and is a hive of activity owned by the amazing Maria, which includes a bar, hardware store and petrol pumps. An 'agroturismo' restaurant, which serves food produced almost entirely on its own land, is only 3 minutes walk from the Villa. A five-a-side football and a tennis court are available there for the use of our guests. Find out about all the latest attractions on our Villa Maieletta Holiday Apartments Facebook page.
