Castle
Built in 1565, the Irishman's Tower is an idyllic rural retreat and the perfect base for exploring the richness and diversity of local Lancashire countryside, food and culture. The Tower occupies one of the former garrisons that interrupt the ramparts at the front of Hoghton Tower and thus commands spectacular views of our landmark driveway and the further Lancashire countryside. This two-storey, cosy historic property has been refurbished to the highest specification. All original features remain, but with a modern twist in design which will more than satisfy contemporary tastes. Facilities include a luxury spa bathroom, king-sized bed, flat-screen TV, open fire, iPod dock, internet access and welcome pack. The Irishman's Tower is available on a self-catering basis for up to two people...Built in 1565, the Irishman's Tower is an idyllic rural retreat and the perfect base for exploring the richness and diversity of local Lancashire countryside, food and culture. Simply magical!
Just the best experience ever. We had the whole grounds to ourselves and embraced being the only people (bar security chap) sleeping overnight in this most awsome historic building. The Irishman's Tower was clean and warm, the open fire had been prepared ready for lighting, there was a little Welcome pack of milk, crumpets, biscuits etc in the well appointed kitchen and we received a very friendly welcome from Kasia. We had an evening meal at the local pub/restaurant and will never forget the spooky walk back up the long drive - simply brilliant! Thank you and we WILL return.

Best ever experience .
I spend most of my time away in the United states, normally in Marriott's, cottages, or condo's. And in my 73 years of traveling, Found Hoghton Tower the best ever experience I have ever had, however, you must want to stay in a castle, and maybe a love of history. I was felt welcome from the moment of our arrival, to the time we left. Warm friendly staff, and really cosy in the tower with a real log fire burning at night, of course you need a car and shower Gel. Otherwise you have everything you should need in the tower, and brilliant WiFi too. Plenty to see and do in Preston and local area, along of course with the tour of this Castle. Please do not be fooled by my Surname as our branch left many hundreds of years ago, and joined the rest of the population within two generation in one branch. However, my other half is not a Houghton per se, and enjoyed every minute of our stay too. Our cousins in the United States I am pretty sure would find it an experience of a lifetime.

shambolic booking system
Trying to book this property has been a complete shambles. The TripAdvisor website clearly showed the dates that I wanted, with a price. This request was made through them and the full amount was taken out of my bank. The owner then sent a message to say that these dates were not available and suggested some different dates. On trying to book these the website informed me that these were also not available! I have now received another email informing me that that someone else has now booked the dates that I wanted having been told by the owner were available!! I will get my money returned but not apparently for a few days Very disappointing indeed. Someone needs to get their act together! Not a good experience from anyone!! I may think twice about using the TripAdvisor site again

Perfection
We stayed in the Irishman's Tower in October 2015 as part of our wedding weekend, fantastic self-catering apartment in the incredible setting of the historic Hoghton Tower. Perfectly appointed with everything you'd need for a short break. Locally you have a few pubs within walking distance and the area itself is well located for walks and Lancashire history. Thanks to the team at HT for making our stay, and wedding, unforgettable. We'll be back!

Stay in your own castle tower!
Who wouldn't want to stay in their very own castle tower? Well fortified manor house technically but it looked like a castle tower to us. Our stay was great and well worth that bit extra for a novel weekend away. The accommodation was a mix of old and new that blended together nicely. To get in you need a massive key that gives the right impression right off. Downstairs in the tower is a living room all set up with a log fire ready to go. A small but perfectly stocked kitchen is off the living room (stocked with fresh bread, cakes, butter & jam!). Upstairs is a bed room & modern ensuite. Views down the massive drive are great. The tower is the only accommodation there that can be rented, the only other people are the owners and a trustee so very private. Easy walk to 2 pubs so no need to cook if you don't want to.
