Gwendolines retreat was our treat!
The cottage was super. Really well stocked and very comfortable. A warm welcome and quick tour of the property left us assured of a good stay. The kids loved the enclosed garden with a couple of secret dens found in the bushes. We would certainly

Causeway coast delight
Honestly the perfect launch pad for exploring the causeway coastline, we were visiting family in the area and it was great to have our own space to retreat to with two tired kids. No internet but I enjoyed being “off grid” for a few days - still had my mobile for internet, albeit patchy, but i didn’t mind. The house is lovely, big rooms and plenty of space. Fantastic views of the sunsets over farm land to the rear of the property. Would 100% recommend this lovely bungalow, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

An excellent place to stay
We stayed at Gwendoline’s Retreat for 2 weeks. It was an excellent place to stay. We travelled around the area visiting Portrush, the Giant’s Causeway, Ballycastle and Rathlin Island. We even managed day trips to Donegal and Belfast.?we also had time to relax and watch the farmer working in the fields next door, and some commonwealth games on Tv. The accommodation was well equipped and only lacked a dishwasher and an internet connection!

Peace and tranquility
Having stayed in Gwendolyn before, we knew what to expect and weren't disappointed. The accommodation is clean, comfortable and well equipped. This location is wonderful for peace and quiet but a stone's throw from all the attractions of the Causeway coast. Feeling refreshed and relaxed 😌.

Peace, quiet and access
4 miles from Bushmills, minutes from Giant’s Causeway and Portrush access to this part of Ulster is magnificent. Further on Ballycastle for boat trips, especially to Carrick- a - Rede and also Dunluce Castle gives you the essence of our holiday. The cottage is nicely furnished and equipped. Feed the birds and a variety will visit. A niggle is no WiFi.

Perfect Base to explore North Coast
Booked Gwendolines Retreat for our family holiday. Really wanted a base to explore North Coast. A rural location and I was a bit worried about not being handy to things but we were not disappointed! A perfect family space.. plenty of room with 2 living rooms .. great kitchen and conservatory dining room which has views of sunset.Great enclosed garden. A very deceivingly spacious bungalow which is 5 mins from Bushmills 15 mins to Portrush &c 15 mins to Ballycastle. Great base to explore local attractions Giants Causeway and Carrick a Rede however the weather was so glorious all week we went to the beach. Children enjoyed 2 surf school days with Sub 6 Portrush and local beaches East Strand White rock & national trust white park bay worth a visit. We will no doubt be booking a return trip to Gwendolines retreat to enjoy homely comforts, peaceful surroundings & rural setting. A lovely break !

Map
About the neighbourhood
Bushmills is a village on the north coast of County Antrim. The village owes its name to the River Bush and a large watermill built in the early 17th Century. The diamond area is typical of many old traditional Ulster towns and villages where the corners are gathering places for the exchange of news and banter and still happens today. The best known attraction is the Old Bushmills distillery which was founded in 1608. The distillery gives guided tours which is well worth a visit. From bushmills you can take a steam train to the famous Giants causeway. This is an area of about 40,000 interlocking bassalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. The causeway is today owned and managed by the National Trust. Bushmills has many good restaurants and pubs serving good local produce. Carrick-a Rede rope bridge is a short journey from Bushmills. Its construction once consisted of a single rope hand rail and widely spaced slats which fishermen would walk across with their salmon caught from the island. The bridge has now been made more secure and replaced by a two handed railed bridge so that tourist will feel safe crossing!!! Ballymoney is only a short distance away and has a good leisure facility know as Joey Dunlops centre. Within the town of Portrush there are a selection of indoor venues which include Waterworld. The Dunluce centre and Barrys amusements and a large choice of restaurants and cafes and bars. Beautiful beaches surround you with the Royal Portrush Golf course midway along the beach. So you see an abundance of things to suit all ages.Come and discover this wonderful county and take home some special memories that will last a life time.
