Bantry plays host to annual festivals of Music, Food, Art and Literature during the year in addition to offering numerous seasonal and year-round activities including Golf, Cycle Hire, Pony Trekking, Boat Hire, Bantry Market, Island or Whale/Seal Watching Trips and Sea Kayaking.
The Byre does not pretend to offer luxury accommodation but a clean, cosy retreat for those who wish to escape the rigours of everyday life and enjoy all that this glorious part of the country has to offer..

Perfect family vacation!
The perfect place for a family vacation! We stayed for two weeks with our two sons (7 and 12) and all four of us loved it!!!
The house holds everything you need and more and made us feel at home from the first moment ❤️. It is perfectly located, within walking distance to the town center (3 minutes to the cinema and town center, 5 minutes to the supermarket) but still quiet enough to find some peace and rest!
We felt warmly welcomed by the house keeper and loved the tips of the host on which places are worth a visit - we had many great day trips and enjoyed the nature all around us. There are so many cool trips to take, close by as well as in day trip distance...
The WiFi connection was stable at all times, which helped to keep up the mood of our boys on the two rainy days we had 😊
Bantry itself is the sweetest little town right at the beautyful Bantry bay - a walk along the bay and it's "muscle walk" quickly became a beloved evening routine (which we really miss being back home!).
We can only recommend the place and the house and hope to come back sometime in the nearer future! 🍀🍀🍀

Delightful hosts !!!
Hester and Allan would go to all lengths to make you happy in their Cottage.
The cottage is a true experience as the Irish lived it a hundred years ago. Except now with running water and electricity !
I was very impressed with Hester's sterling personality.

Highly recommended
The Byre did not disappoint, it only exceeded our expectations. We were warmly greeted by Hester and her two lovely dogs who immediately made us feel very welcomed.
The Byre is clean, cozy and very well equipped. If you want rural and tranquility this is as good as it gets. Both Hester and Allan were both attentive and willing to assist in anything we needed to ensure we had the best in our stay.
We felt looked after but also had the freedom to roam free.
We highly recommend The Byre and will definitely be returning !

About the neighbourhood
Bantry Bay extends for 30 km to the west of Bantry town, the Beara peninsula is to the northwest and the Sheep's Head and Mizen Head peninsulas are to be found nearby, to the south. The town itself is rich in history and provides a wealth of Shops, Pubs, Restaurants and a Cinema.
Getting around
The Market towns of Bantry and Skibbereen are within easy driving distance, as is the Wild Atlantic Way and the border with Co. Kerry.
Both Bantry and Drimoleague are starting points for various walking routes including The Sheep's Head Way and The Drimoleague Loop.
Public transport is limited in the area so in order to fully appreciate it, we recommend you have use of a car or a bicycle for those of you who are fit enough to tackle the hills!
