About the neighbourhood
Oughterard is a traditional village in the West of Ireland nestled beside Lough Corrib (the largest lake in the Republic), at the start of the Connemara Mountain Range and only 17km from Galway City- The City of the Tribes. Oughterard is an ideal base to tour Connemara, Galway County and Galway City, Mayo and the Burren in County Clare. Lough Corrib is famous for its brown trout and salmon fishing and Oughterard is the main angling centre on the lake. The angling season open on Lough Corrib in mid-February and finishes in late-September and is at its busiest in May during the Mayfly season. Boats and boatmen can be hired locally. Golf and horse riding are also available locally. Other points of interest locally are the nearby 14th centuary Aughnanure Castle and 19th centuary Glangola Lea...
