Holiday Rental House
Charming, airy house in the village of Saint Thomas de Conac. Recently renovated, the property boasts three large bedrooms, shower room, well equipped kitchen/dining room and living room. The property is accessed via a metal gate into the courtyard garden, complete with grapevine and stunning hollyhocks at the right time of year plus stone barbecue. Large glass doors from the kitchen and hallway open to the garden, which ensure plenty of light, but the house stays cool in the heat of summer. Upstairs you'll find a HUGE master bedroom with walk in wardrobe and king size bed, another double bedroom (leading to mezzanine floor aimed at the artists among you, easel and paints provided!) and a smaller room with twin beds. There is also a bright shower room. The living room downstairs has a cosy...Charming, airy house in the village of Saint Thomas de Conac. There is satellite tv (so you can catch up on English tv) and dvd player, as well as library of books and general information about the area. The friendly and attractive village of Saint Thomas de Conac has an excellent restaurant/bar, a very good boucherie/charcuterie (also now sells a few general groceries and bread), fabulous boulangerie, church and well-run horse riding stables. Wine/Pineau tours are available during summer months. The village itself is on top of a hill – on one side you'll find endless vineyards and fields full of sunflowers. On the other a steep slope down to the marais, the Gironde estuary and a haven for bird and wildlife, cycling and footpaths. Excellent beaches are 25 mins away by car, via the Route Verte, and through the lovely villages of St Fort, Mortagne, Talmont and Meschers. The towns of Jonzac (20 mins), Pons, Saintes (40 mins) are well worth a visit. Bordeaux and La Rochelle airports 1 hr and 1.5 hours respectively. Supermarket 10 mins in Mirambeau.

Gemütliches Haus in kleinem französischen Dorf
Das schön eingerichtete Haus ist sehr gut ausgestattet. Vor allem der abgeschlossene Garten ist gut geeignet für Gäste mit Hund. Die Vermieterin ist sehr nett, unkompliziert und sehr hilfsbereit.

Lovely, well-appointed home from hom
Steph's property is as comfortable as you could possibly wish for, with everything you need on hand. It is a great location in the village, with a bar/restaurant directly across the street and a small grocery store a short walk away. If you want to spend time in this area, we can highly recommend it. Superb.

Lovely house in a quiet French village
We stayed for a week in St Thomas de Conac & flying into Bordeaux airport. The house is approx 1 hour from Bordeaux using the toll road & was easy to find (take a French road map or sat nav to get out & about generally as it makes life easier!). A car is required as there is no public transport to get around the local area. Prior to arrival, we received details of how to get to the house from Stephanie & a range of options of things to do, plus a map of the village. There's also a really useful folder in the house with details of things to do in the region, so you can play it by ear when you arrive if needed. We used the house as a base to visit Saintes, Talmont, Meschers & Cognac over the space of the week. The house itself was great, with 3 bedrooms (2 doubles, one twin) & had enough space for myself & 2 friends. There's plenty of space for catching some sun on the patio area or for eating outside in the evening. In the evenings, it can get warm upstairs but there is a fan for the smaller bedroom which doesn't have a window to open. The house & the kitchen are well equipped, there was nothing that we needed that were were not able to locate, even wifi was available. The village has a bakery about 10 mins walk from the house & a bar over the road with a 3 course €19.50 menu Tues - Sun. The nearest supermarket is 10 mins drive. Overall, a relaxing holiday & a good location to explore Charente Maritime. Thanks for a great stay!

About the neighbourhood
With its rolling countryside, you will enjoy a landscape planted mainly with vines or sunflowers. The immediate area is very rural, so be ready to see tractors of all shapes and sizes! The house is located within the Haute Saintonge, synonymous with the ancient pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela, and a region home to over a hundred Romanesque churches. You'll find pretty, well kept villages all around the area, each totally different to the next. Talmont (designated plus beaux villages de France), with its famous church overlooking the estuary and hollyhock lined streets is only 30km away. The nearest beaches are a few km further along the Route Verte, which starts outside the house! Pay a visit to Chateau Beaulon, with its blue fountains (natural springs forming ponds of the most incredible blue hue), Port Maubert (a sleepy fishing port on the estuary) with a restaurant and snack bar and walks along the estuary, Saint Fort, Port Mortagne (restaurants along the river bank). Just before Talmont you will come to Barzan Roman site. Fabulous unspoilt beaches in small coves can be found in Meschers (35km) as well as troglodyte caves in the cliffs! A little further up the coast is Saint George de Didonne, with its huge sandy beach and up to Royan. Inland (and only 20 mins away) is Jonzac with its chateau and tiny medieval streets and Pons. Explore the roman amphitheatre, triumphal arch, shops and street markets in Saintes, or take a cognac tour in Cognac. Towards the Gironde Estuary you will find the Port de Vitrezay nature reserve - great for bird watching and gentle walks. The area is famous for its farmed oysters, available in the village square on sundays, Pineau de Charente (visit a degustation or tour) and charente melons! Enjoy the local fish sold from Jonzac covered market.
