Interaction with guestsAs this location is also our home, we are always on-hand to help out & give advice on things to see in the area etc. We also like to propose some activities to our guests ; for example a Kayak or Canyoning outing or to share a visit to a local place of interest. We usually enjoy a barbeque with our guests at least once during their stay.

Great family holiday
Myself and my family (wife and 3 kids aged 11, 8 and 7) had a great time. The house we stayed in was very clean and had plenty of room for all the family. Even though the weather was very hot, the house was pleasantly cool at night. There was some great mountain walks in the vicinity of the house and we also went kayaking with the whole family. There is also some spectacular scenery, especially La Sidobre, in the area. We were within easy driving distance of popular tourist destinations of Carcasonne, Castres and Toulouse. We also visited the village of Roquefort and the Millau Suspension Bridge, which was a longer drive at about 2 hours. There are also plenty of supermarkets and restaurants within 30 minutes driving of the property All of the kids said they would love to go back and stay there, which is always a good indicator for me, as if they didn't have a great time, they would not have said that.

An exellent "Great Outdoors" holiday
We searched long and hard for a holiday suitable for all of us - with a 15 year old girl and 17 year old boy. As you know, you can never please everyone. All in all, we were very happy with our holiday in the black mountains. Oonagh and her sons Cian and Zach could not have been more hospitable. One of the highlights of our holiday was on the day after we arrived, when we went on a hike with them to a Gorge approx 30 minutes drive away. We hiked down to a river, where we swam, relaxed, had a picnic. It was idyllic. Later in the holiday we went "canyonning" along the same Gorge - a "must do" if you enjoy "thrills and spills". I went with our teens, who both loved it. Cian came with us. Oonagh arranged the guide. The local guide was brilliant. Total cost for three of us was approx 90 euro - great value for a great day out - sliding down small waterfalls (dressed in a wetsuit). The accommodation is in the heart of the countryside - approx 20 mins drive from Castres (known as little venice), a lovely town with a wonderful park complete with excellent indoor/outdoor swimming pool / waterslides etc. I recommend you take the boat trip from the park to the centre of the town (you can park your car at the park). We went on day trips to Toulouse (European Space Agency - Theme Park), Carcassone, and Albi. Each was approx 1 hour drive. Our teens were not over-impressed with the "culture" daytrips, Nicola, my wife, and I enjoyed them greatly. Near the accommodation is the Sidobre - an amazing area of incredible sights that you must see to believe. Massive granite rocks, balancing precariously. Wonderful walks through an amazing landscape. The nearest "village" is Brassac - a 12 minute drive, along winding mountain roads (be ready for a lot of winding mountain roads - perfect surface, but lots of bends. Brassac is lovely, with an amazing mediaeval bridge (pedestrian only now). There is any amount of hillwalking in the area - Oonagh provides excellent local trailmaps. If you like mountain-biking, there are lots of trails about.

Très bon accueil
Maison très confortable, environnement agréable et calme. Cependant c'est assez isolé (voiture obligatoire, 20 min de Castres). Repos, balades à pied et visite des environs, nous avons passé des vacances très reposantes.

Perfect Getaway From It all
If you want a holiday that allows you to chill out in a lovely part of France this is the ideal location. Una and her family are extremely welcoming, nothing was too much trouble - she provided us with a welcome pack of food and drink and invited us into her house to watch the final Lions v australia game. The gite is well equipped and comfortable and handy for visiting the surrounding area [Carcassone, Albi, Castres). If you fancy an evening without cooking the Hostellerie d'Oc in nearby Noailhac is well worth a visit.

A charming taste of village life - pure relaxation and true hosp
Una and her eldest son Zak were the ultimate hosts! Una is a great communicator, gave very clear directions to their rural location, and came to meet us at the road on her bike. The cottage was clean, well-appointed and comfortable, in a beautiful country hamlet. A perfect antidote to the crowds and bustle of Paris. There was a lovely welcome package of tea, coffee, a bottle of wine and other goodies for us on arrival. One small note: all three bedrooms are up a narrow flight of stairs, so probably wouldn´t suit less mobile visitors. The three photos of the stone cottage are representative but do not do it (or its beautiful views and surroundings) justice. Una and Zac gave us directions to a very nice boulangerie in nearby Brassac and accompanied us on a visit there, as well as taking us into the surrounding National Park for an afternoon of hiking and exploring. We finished our last day there with a communal BBQ on their terrace with friends and other guests. They even brewed up an old Irish remedy for my cold that left me feeling like a new woman! My only regrets are that we did not get to meet the other members of this lovely family and that we didn´t book a longer stay. Thank you, Una and Zak, for a beautiful visit. I sincerely hope we will see you again.

Relaxing, Uplifting, and Unique!
Out of the many places we have visited this was top. It was a bit different to the usual holiday - not very touristy, not full of bars and restaurants, we didnt come home feeling overindulged and lazy! Rather, it was a mix between an activity adventure and a relaxation haven. Una and family warmly welcomed us and they were available anytime during our stay to offer friendly advice about the area. The accommodation was immaculate, and truly unique. An historic farmhouse conversion, both rustic and modern. The area was well off the beaten track, providing the perfect location to relax and enjoy life at its most simplest. We bought delicious local produce and prepared our own meals most days. We also enjoyed mountain biking, canoeing, fishing, countryside hiking, dining out in the local villages, a city trip to the nearby Toulouse, and much more - we got engaged there! That holiday will always standout in our memories as truly special. Would highly recommend.

Very beautiful area, we really enjoyed ourselves. Shame it was very wet during our stay but the cottage was fine. I would go back just not with teenagers.

Thank you very much for your review. We very much appreciate your comments. You very unlucky with the weather the week you visited, in what turned out to be one of the warmest and driest summers in years. It's certainly true that it's a lot more pleasant enjoying the activities available in the area when the sun is shinning. It was a pleasure having you visit and we look forward to seeing you back again some time soon. Regards Una & Erol
