The well known pilgrimage trail ‘Chemin de St. Jacques de Compostelle’ (GR653) portrayed in the recent Hollywood film ‘The Way’ joins the GR36 in the communal forest of Cambounes. The area has several fresh water lakes with full amenities such as beach, life guards, restaurant, snack bar & water sports. The beautiful towns of Catres & Mazamet are only 20 mins drive. Both offer fresh markets, good shopping and great dining opportunities. The UNESCO world heritage sites of Carcassonne & Albi are 1 hour away. The capital of the region ‘La ville rose’ Toulouse is an hour and half to the west. The Mediterranean cities of Narbonne and Beziers are just an hour and half drive. The region has a proud rugby tradition and is host to several top league clubs such as Castres Olympique, Stade Toulousain, Albi and Montpellier. There are plenty of other interesting places to visit such as the Sidobre national park (and it's amazing granite rock formations), the Millau bridge, Roquefort, Lautrec, Gaillac, too many to mention here. Come and experience real French living in this unspoilt region. 'The Thyme' is a renovated 'pigeonnier' (dovecot). The accommodation is split over three levels comprising of a kitchen/dining area, shower room with wc, living room with wood burning stove and a mezzanine with double bed. There is access from the first level to a little garden terrace, with barbeque, table and chairs, where you can sit and enjoy the sunshine and the view.

Interaction with guestsAs this location is also our home, we are always on-hand to help out & give advice on things to see in the area etc. We also like to propose some activities to our guests ; for example a Kayak or Canyoning outing or to share a visit to a local place of interest. We usually enjoy a barbeque with our guests at least once during their stay.

Heerlijk rustig, lieflijk huisje

Wonderful holiday
What a super holiday! Everything we wanted, get away from it all into the beautiful French countryside but still only a short train trip to Toulouse for the city experience. Long walks in the forest, lazy days at the lake, what more could you want! The house was lovely, great facilities, all in all a super holiday!

French loveliness with Irish hue!!
Gorgeous little cottage in wonderful area. An absolute taste of the better life!Una made us feel so welcome with everything from her welcome treat basket, to maps, local info, coffee in the sun, rugby game and mountain biking with the locals! We didn't know what to expect when we chose our accommodation for a two week stay in rural France, but we were thrilled to end up with black mountain holiday rentals. Recommended highly for its location and local scenery. We did have a car and bikes that we used everyday to visit all the nearby towns and villages and enjoyed returning to the house for barbeques by night! Also, you can hear the owls at night and can see many large birds of prey by day from the house. Bird spotters heaven! Thanks Una and family. X

Fabulous France, farmstyle!
All my partner and I wanted was a quiet retreat in the south of France, but Thyme holiday home is so much more than that! We stayed in the 3-tiered converted pigionnère which has a little garden and it felt utterly private and romantic! The surrounding area is criss-crossed with endless hiking/mountain biking trails and we never covered the same route twice in the 10 days we spent there. There are also plenty of charming villages nearby with eateries and bakeries if you need a break from self-catering. Una and her family (and her two wonderful pooches Guinness and Missy who we already miss dearly) were so kind and accommodating and extremely helpful about the surrounding area. They took us on a couple of excursions in the forest and directed us to two stunning lakes which were blissful for swimming. All in all we can safely say that Thyme holiday home truly feel like home during our stay and if you're looking for a countryside getaway with the option of trail running, swimming, hiking and biking or just a quiet place to read a book, uncork a bottle of wine, soak up the fresh air and do some superb star-gazing far from the city, this spot is a must. Thank you Una and family! We hope to visit again in the future!

A great time had
Myself and my wife have returned again and again to this accommodation. We love the place, the people and, above all, Una and her family who make us feel so welcome and at home! And they know all the great things to do and see - and where the best shopping is!

thyme out
My wife and I recently spent a week in Thyme cottage in the Tarn region. From the moment we arrived we knew we would be happy here. Una welcomed us warmly with, to our delight, real coffee and a bottle of the local wine. She gave us lots of information about the area and then tactfully left us to our own devices. The cottage was an old converted stone building with all the necessary bits and pieces including outdoor tables and loungers. It was surrounded by pretty flowers and a grassy path led to the tiny village of Coumbieres. If you like majestic forests, pretty quiet little villages and shady walks then this is for you. But, if you like mountain biking and other exhilerating mountain activities then this is also the place for you and Una can help in arranging things for you.You do need a car as you are luckily a bit off the beaten path. There are many sights to explore nearby eg. the beautiful Black Mountains, the breathtaking Viaduc de Millau, highest in the world, the amazing Toulouse Lautrec museum, the many sleepy villages and much much more.We would love to return to Thyme cottage.

A most relaxing motorcycle adventure!
Having taken the plunge after a number of guided tours to plan and carry out our own motorcycle tour, we decided on somewhere that would be within easy reach of the famous Millau bridge. Luck was definitely with us when we came upon the Thyme holiday home in the Tarn region. Set in the beautiful Black Mountain region of France, the property is both quaint and romantic - a perfect retreat for a couple! The accomodation is extremely comfortable and restful with only the birds to wake you in the mornings. Facilities available are very good with just about everything you could want. As a couple touring by nmotorcycle, we wanted for nothing! The property is surrounded by riolling hills, trees and beautiful countryside and provides easy access to a wide area of this fantastic regaion in France. Una could not be a more hospitalble and helpful host if she tried! None of our requests were too much effort - plans for walks, places to eat - all were met with a cheery smile and Una provided all the help we needed. The holiday home is easy to find and within easy reach of Castres and many other lovely french towns and villages. For the car driver or motorcyclist an almost perfect base from which to travel and discover. Highly Recommended!

Friendly, helpful owner who goes out of her way to make your stay comfortable.
Although small, the gite we stayed in had everything we needed, including a hot bath! The heating was adequate for a winter break but there was a lovely log burner in the sitting room which was not made available to us. Our stay would have been perfect with a roaring fire.
