Here is what our recent guests had to say: 'We just wanted to send a note to say how very much we enjoyed our stay at La Diosa. Between you and Steven all our requests were seen to in a timely fashion. We were so very grateful. The location of the villa, while rather remote, is so very beautiful and the home extremely well equipped with everything to make our stay perfect. We loved sitting out by the pool and enjoying the gorgeous landscape surrounding us and the views out over the water were just stupendous. We ate out almost every night on the upper deck and it was equally enjoyable. Your magnificent kitchen was so well equipped. We wanted for nothing. Thank you for the opportunity to experience a wonderful culture and a fantastic island.' With breathtaking views of the island and the Caribbean Sea from every vantage, La Diosa is a perfect place for couples seeking a romantic getaway or for families and friends looking for a special place to relax and reconnect. Close to everything but a world away. Even though the villa is roomy and expansive, it can feel very intimate. There are many places for family and friends to gather and enjoy each other's company and also nooks and crannies for quiet reflection. There is an infinity pool, acres of gardens and paths and a labyrinth made from the white quartz stones on the property. If you are a water person, besides the pool you can swim and snorkel off the private dock or kayak and paddle board. The mangrove tunnels (across the Bight) are a trip back in time. Subway Watersports provides valet diving and snorkeling and will pick you up right off the dock to dive or snorkel at all the best places along the uncrowded North Shore reef. Deep sea and local fishing charters are also available with a boat master right next door. The four bedrooms include 2 master suites with ensuite bath. Spectacular views await you on every level, and the accommodations have been chosen to perfection. Our caretaker Steven is on the property 24 hours per day. And while the villa is secluded and private, restaurants, shopping, and Roatan's many attractions are not far away. Our guests find the location perfect to explore Roatan's many attractions. If you love to cook, the fully equipped gourmet kitchen has a large island of slate and Honduran rosewood, an eating bar, two dining areas, and spectacular views of the Caribbean. The stainless steel grill is downstairs, and the screened porch by the pool has a lounging area, a bar, and yoga and exercise equipment. It is very important to us that La Diosa is a 'green' home suitable for asthmatic and environmentally sensitive people. The home has tile and concrete construction, solar power and solar hot water, a salt water and ultraviolet purifying system in the infinity pool, and non-toxic, sophisticated energy-efficient construction. We NEVER use pesticides and we strictly forbid the use of any fragrances, including fragranced detergents or fabric softener. La Diosa is a truly magical place....we are sure you will love it as much as we do!

private piece of paradise
The grounds were well maintained with many beautiful flowers and palm trees. My husband and I thought the 2nd floor veranda added a special touch to the whole house. The hallways were open to this huge veranda so that even on a hot day there was a wonderful breeze. The kitchen was large and well stocked with views over the living room to the ocean. The downstairs master had an extremely firm king mattress, while the upstairs had medium firm queen mattress. The bathrooms were large and well appointed. The upstairs master had an open air shower and a spa tub. The caretaker, Steven, kept the infinity pool sparkling, let us have our privacy and secured the gate at night. He is available to help with any items you may need and is willing and able to assist with bags, etc. If you decide to snorkel from the dock be sure and have Steven show you the way and where best to snorkel. We loved the place and our only request would be to have two softer king beds.

Perfect Island Getaway - La Diosa del Sol
La Diosa del Sol is a beautiful island home on Roatan. The layout of the house is perfect for entertaining and great for large groups or families. A friend and her young son stayed with me for a few days this trip. The pool area was his favorite. I don’t blame him, it is fantastic! They even keep pool floats and toys stocked and plenty of lounge chairs and a day bed to sunbathe. Clay, the caretaker, and his wife, Deborah were absolutely wonderful. Clay made sure the pool was spotless through my entire stay, which is really all I had hoped for. When my friend and her son left, Clay took the time to make sure I was ok and we even had some great talks about the island and the Caribbean in general. He’s extremely sweet! Just be sure to tell Liz (property manager) what you would like taken care of and whether or not total privacy is of importance. Due to the smaller yard around the house privacy is a little hard to come by during the day but I’m sure things can be arranged to accommodate. The house is located on top of a hill so there’s a constant sea breeze to keep the bugs away. Plenty of ceiling fans to keep the air flowing if you choose to keep the windows open 24/7. There are AC units in the bedrooms if it gets too hot at night. The ocean views are stunning! The sunset is so breathtaking and can be seen from the front upstairs patio. With the layout of the house including multiple outdoor areas, we spent most of our time relaxing outside. The kitchen appliances, tableware, and cooking utensils are outstanding. The pantry is also stocked with the basics (spices, oils, etc.). The BBQ was used almost every night and used for just about everything! Although the house does have good internet for the island, I always travel to Roatan with my own Project Fi router. We found the first night there that it doesn’t quite reach the bedrooms at the back of the house so I would move mine back there in the evenings. Also, as the sun goes down, I would recommend closing the curtains in the front living room as it beats down on the router and television. I’ve found from previous experience on that part of the island, that if the routers get too hot around sunset, they start acting funky until the sun has been down for a bit. There is great beach and dock access across the road from the house. They also have a variety of kayaks (single and double) along with a stand-up paddle board. There’s a lovely mangrove across Politilly Bay and you can find some beautiful beaches kayaking up the shoreline. I would definitely recommend staying at La Diosa del Sol. Especially if you have a larger group or family, the space is perfect!

This is the one!
We picked the right home for us! The home is Beautiful! It is located in the center of the island and we really liked that. We could go any direction and find great restaurants and beautiful beaches.Cal's cantina at sunset was our favorite. We loved eating breakfast on the upper deck, the view of the ocean is great! There were six adults in our group and we had one extra bed room that we did not even use. The sea kayaks were perfect for going out to the reef to snorkel, or a trip through the mangroves. There is not need to pay to go on a snorkel trip if you have your own mask. We also really enjoyed the pool. It is private but also has a great ocean view! The owners are very good to work with. We stayed for three weeks and wish we could have stayed longer! We had a great vacation!

Paradise found
We had such an amazing stay at La Diosa del Sol! The house was everything promised and more. The master bedrooms are spacious with comfortable beds, private balconies, rain showers, and an amazing bathtub in the upstairs master suite. The kitchen had everything we needed, and there is a good grocery store quite close. We spent many hours swimming and floating in the infinity pool, and also enjoyed kayaking and paddleboarding right from the private dock. Adrienne the owner is very friendly and responsive. The property manager Liz recommended some great activities and restaurants. We'll definitely visit again!

Beautiful property!
We spent 7 nights at La Diosa during our recent family vacation to Roatan. Liz, the property manager, met us at the airport just after our plane landed. From there, we followed her to Snappers, the local fish market, where we picked up some nice fish for dinner and then to Eldon's for a weeks supply of groceries, beer & wine. After loading up our vehicles, we then made our way to the villa. Liz gave us a quick tour of the villa, answered our questions and introduced us to Austin who looks after the property. Liz was great and attended to all our needs during our stay. We also had Rosa cook a couple of island meals for us and we thoroughly enjoyed her cooking. La Diosa is located on a hill which provides spectacular views of both the property and the Caribbean Sea. It is also quite secluded and peaceful, away from the hustle & bustle from where the cruise ships come in. The villa is very spacious and clean, with more than enough room for 4 adults and 4 teenagers. The kitchen is well equipped and the villa itself is very comfortable. We ate our breakfasts and lunches on the second floor balcony while enjoying the spectacular views. The teenagers spent a lot of time in the pool as well as exploring the beach and bay in the sea kayaks. As we were warned, the mosquitos do come out at dusk and the sand fleas are quite active at the beach if you don't apply bug spray. Our only complaint is that the property has a northern exposure and at this time of year, only the pool gets sun during the day, leaving the pool area and loungers in the shade. Roatan is a beautiful island and La Diosa is a beautiful property. We would definitely consider returning La Diosa at some point in time and would highly recommend it.

Excellent
The house was simply beautiful and very thoughtfully and lovingly equipped down to every possible game , video and kitchen utensil. I particurarly enjoyed Rosas cooking with her excellent fish dishes. Night and day watchman Austin was helpful and kind. The indoor and outdoor showers were awsome.

3 generation vacation
La Diosa was perfect to accomodate our party of 7, 3 generation group. Much room for privacy and lovely common space to hang out. Kids loved the pool - the house is very well appointed yet comfortable. We found plenty of nearby beaches that were beautiful and the dive shop just 2 coves west was very friendly and accommodating. The owners and the resident manager as well as the on site care taker could not have been nicer. We loved the privacy of the East end and the cultural connection being within a nice afternoon hike of Punta Gorda to get a local feel. We are planning our next visit. Thank you !

A slice of Heaven in an oasis of beauty
We have now had the fortune of staying at La Diosa Del Sol on multiple occasions and this time was no different than the last. If you want dependability and the same experience every time this is the place. The grounds are gorgeous, the property immaculate and the service is exceptional. From the owners, to the property manager to the caretaker. This place is simply Devine! We've traveled the world and stayed at five star resorts, and individual homes, and nothing compares to LDDS! You won't be disappointed. The pool is absolutely refreshing, there is never a need for anything. If you leave for the day don't be surprised if George has fresh coconuts cut and waiting in the fridge when you get back. If you need a place to eat, or something to adventure Liz has you covered. This is truly paradise!

Unforgettable, really extraodinary.
With our 4 children, we came from France to visit Roatan. La Diosa was THE place to stay and we had a marvelous time there : the house and the garden are really wonderful, well equiped, with everything you might dream. The beach is near, and with the kayacks, you're able to snorkel on the beautiful reef in a few moments. Humming birds can be seen while you're taking your shower in the open air. The view is breathtaking. Beeing located on the east part of Roatan is really an advantage : this part of the island is more authentic, but in less than an hour you can access, if you want, the more touristical places in the island. Not far from the house, beautiful beaches, wonderful dives with "subway water sport" that pick you up right from the dock at La Diosa. Punta Gorda with its Garifuna joyful feats and dances is very near... And what made our stay really remarkable was the presence of Jorge. He is perfect in his role as caretaker : helpul, efficient, hardworker, always available but never intrusive. And we found he goes far beyond his duty, in the good sense : friendly, giving good advices, taking care of our security in every aspect, always ready to talk about Honduras and Roatan, showing our kids how to cook a traditional recipe. After a few days, though he was always discrete, we had the impression of being at home with a friend nearby. Jorge is really precious and added greatly to the quality of our stay in La Diosa… The best summary comes from our kids "when do we come back ?". And though it's very far from France, no doubt we also dream of it! PS : if you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle, don't hesitate to go far east, on the dirt road, to "La Sirena" restaurant : the view and the beach are amazing, and you've got the feeling of being at the edge of the world. Their fishes are delicious.

Wonderful Family Vacation at La Diosa!
La Diosa is sprawling, airy, and spectacular with gorgeous views! Lots of room for our family of 8 incl. 3 little ones. We loved the multiple levels & decks, beautiful decor, cleanliness & the infinity pool was a daily/nightly ritual. The home is in a remote part of the island -exactly what we wanted -away from the cruisers and resorts. It was recommended that we rent a 4WD, and they were right. You need it at least for clearance on the very bumpy roads. Jami and Ed, the house managers, were super nice, knowledgable, and always responsive. Jami met us at the airport, took us grocery shopping when we first got there and gave us Roatan insider tips. We had an issue with the air conditioning in one of the bedrooms and they had an AC guy out there promptly to fix it. Efraim, the caretaker, was on-site and took care of the pool and grounds. We invited Efraim to have dinner with us one night and enjoyed talking about the culture in Roatan. I had read many reviews about bugs, but we didn't really encounter too many. The "no see ums" got a few of us, but they didn't bother us too much and didn't itch. We did put "OFF" on occasionally, but no big deal. Our favorite things (in no particular order): 1.) Temporary Cal's Cantina - truly the best food we had on the island! It was close to the house and has gorgeous views. The food was incredible and inexpensive. Hint: They are only open 3-4 days during the week, so get there early as it fills up quick. We actually went two days in a row we were so impressed. 2.) Little French Key. We went twice! A tiny private island that's fun for the entire family and tranquil and too. They have a 2-level bar that you can jump off the top deck into the water...the teens especially loved this and even my five year old jumped! The water is zero entry on the beaches so great for kids. Hint: go early & don't go on cruise day! 3.) La Sirena. A quaint little restaurant off the beaten path that sits on a pier...lots of shells and shallow water for the little ones to explore while we sipped our drinks. 4.) Paya Bay- we visited Bliss Beach, and walked a narrow path to the end of the rocky cliff that overlooked the sea. Unreal. 5.) Ruthless Charters. 6 of us went fishing. Fun & friendly captain, first mate, and crewmate. We caught tuna, and had the freshest sushi ever, right there on the boat! Other Hints: Joshua at Roatan Best Car is true to his word. La Diosa was perfect for us! We will definitely be returning! (I posted this review on VRBO right after our vacation but recently I have been using TripAdvisor more and thought it should be posted on here too, even though it's 2 years old).

About the neighbourhood
La Diosa is located on the North Shore of Roatan, east of French Harbor, about 35 minutes east of the airport (depending on whether you are stuck behind a turnip truck). The East End of Roatan is different. It's away from the tourist traffic. Some people call it "old Roatan." It's quiet out here. There are deserted white sand beaches in Camp Bay, gorgeous breakfronts at Paya Bay that remind us of New England. Nearby Spa Tranquilidad offers great facials and massages. There is a good restaurant at Turquoise Bay (5 minutes), a fantastic one at Cal's (8 minutes), and of course spectacular seafood at Gio's in French Harbor. Eldon's is a US style grocery store in French Harbor, and Steven can arrange to get you fresh fish!
Getting around
We recommend a vehicle to see the sights both east and west on the island. Roatan's main road goes east and west so it's pretty easy to get around. You can also hire a driver, but a rental car is much more convenient.
Access

How to get there
There are direct flights to Roatan from Houston (United), Dallas (American), Atlanta (Delta) and Sunning (Toronto). You can also connect via Avianca with a stop in El Salvador. You will be met at the airport by Liz and escorted to the villa. Many guests stop at Eldon's to shop, but you can also arrange to have Rosa greet you with a delicious Island meal upon your arrival at the villa.
