Holiday Rental House
The reality of Clachtoll Cottage always exceeds expectations.. The artistic owners have created a house of considerable charm filled with an extensive collection of books, paintings and unusual objects of considerable interest. The interior is extraordinarily comfortable. The house is situated in a stunning location just yards from the beach at Clachtoll with magnificent views fromt the picture window to in the fore-ground, the dramatic shape of Split Rock and beyond, the mountains of Stac Pollaidh, Coigach, and Wester Ross. Assynt is an area of outstanding natural beauty, a World Heritage site in terms of Geology and an area rich in wildlife and history.

Book this one, highly recommend.
We keep returning to Clachtoll Cottage year after year because we just love the atmosphere and comfort of the house and the beautiful location, right on the shore with lovely sand beaches nearby. The seascape from the large lounge is mesmerising, constantly changing, with opportunities to see wildlife galore. The garden surrounds the house with a huge grass play area for children and there is great walking from the doorstep. Inside, the house is warm and very well equipped with a good kitchen, great shower, interesting artwork, hundreds of books and quirky upstairs loft area. Bill the owner is very friendly and and can tell you everything you need to know about the area. We're going again in April, can't wait!

Cosy cottage in idyllic location with lots of extras and a few surprises ...
Despite our late arrival (11pm) owner Bill was on hand to open the gates and lead us to a welcoming fire in the cottage. That welcome lasted all week; with Bill introducing us to the varied features of the house, its extensive gardens and the general area. As others have said, the location is fantastic: The house was built around optimum views of the islands beyond whilst retaining a sense of total privacy. You need not worry about being overlooked during your stay. Clachtoll itself is conveniently located for many attractions and amenities within a half hour drive. One of the biggest hits for our holiday was the abundance of wildlife in the area - particularly well timed for new offspring. Plenty of evidence for sea otters on Clachtoll beach - but they sadly eluded us. Whales had also been spotted North of Clachtoll but again... We did see plenty on Handa Island bird sanctuary with the benefit of hired binoculars (bring your own!). The weather proved to be a bonus for us - with mostly glorious days throughout. However, I'm sure the house holds enough art, books, curios, games and entertainment to keep any family occupied irrespective of the weather! Daughters are 11 and 13 - and not a whine all week! Can thoroughly recommend the Clachtoll experience to any family. Thanks Bill. .

Heaven on a plate...
As written previously by others, we were blown away by the location of this beautiful house. What a view! The surrounding areas are full of interesting and magnificent walks. Even in bad weather you want to explore. The house is very comfortable and well equipped. We met the owner who is charming and has numerous tales and information to share. He has provided a wealth of books and information to help guests. He even took the trouble to write a comprehensive list of attractions and walks for us in the area. I would heartily recommend this house. Beware that it is remote (that is the beauty). A fairly long drive to any shops or pubs. We didn't miss the internet at all! No mobile signal in the house, but again not a real problem. A great place for either families or with a group of friends.....wonderful!

this is truly a special place... but sssssh.. let's keep it secret!
This place will pull at your heart. We have been lucky enough to stay in lots of beautiful places in Scotland, but absolutely nothing compares with this! The location will leave you speechless, and it doesn't really matter if it'a not sunny, you will be mesmerised from the minute you set eyes on the place! Sun, rain, wind or snow - the landscape and views are unbeatable. The house is beautifully furnished and extremely comfortable and attractive with all the personal effects, library and artwork. Nestled right on the shore of a beach, with panoramic views, this is the most stunning location for any house, let alone a holiday home! I defy anyone who has been once, not to want to complete next years booking form on departure!..

Simply stunning - you'll want to come back again and again
My family and I have been staying at Clachtoll cottage every summer now many happy years. The unbeatable location provides seclusion without isolation, amazing views and easy access to arguably one of the best beaches on the west coast. The cottage provides everyone you could want from a home away from home, with amazing grounds surrounding it to play in should you be able to tear yourself away from the beach. We all look forward to our time in Clachtoll and I'm confident anyone who ventures up to this wonderful cottage will have an amazing holiday.

About the neighbourhood
Clachtoll faces west over the Bay of Clachtoll. The southern half of the head of the bay, south west from the car park, provides a truly glorious beach of white sand lapped by idyllic turquoise water. From the Clachtoll Cottage you gain stunning mountain views to the south. For many this would be enough in itself to make the journey worthwhile. North west from the car park is another inlet, where the house is situated, which in marked contrast to its neighbour comprises layers of sloping rock strata and stone. This, and the rocks of the headlands either side of the sandy beach, make Clachtoll a renowned spot for geologists. Apparently it shows evidence of an ancient land surface covered by later rocks, and guarantees that you are as likely to see visitors heading for the beach with helmets and geologists' hammers as with flippers and snorkels... Between the two inlets is a grassy headland on which you find a salmon bothy. This small stone building is part of the Clachtoll Salmon Station, preserved by the Assynt Historical Society and open to visitors from 10.00am to 6.00pm daily. Displays show how the salmon station, which closed in 1994, would have operated. Less obvious than the bothy, and a little to the north east of it, is the ice house in which the catch would be kept until transported to market. Clachtoll Cottage is on the shore of the bay overlooking this area and with superb views south to Coigach and the mountains of Wester Ross A little north of Clachtoll and almost overlooking the next bay along the coast, the Bay of Stoer, is Clachtoll Broch. At their highest, the broch walls stand about 2m high
