The privilege to stay in a beautiful heritage home !
I had an amazing time at Kila Dalijoda. It is a very special and unique experience to stay in this beautiful heritage home. The owners are a lovely couple happy to share many stories. The food is probably one of the best I had in India! I enjoyed my time in the countryside with a bicycle, it was beautiful. I even practiced yoga with a teacher who can especially for me. I would have loved to stay longer !!

True India Spirit in a fantastic heritage mansion
When I was creating my itinerary for my Odisha visits I found the website from Kila Dalijoda, it was love at first sight and it did not take long before I decided to book a couple of nights. On arrival, a couple of weeks later, I was warmly welcomed by Debjit, the owner and host, and his wonderful wife Namrata. I felt at home straight away. The pictures on the website were fabulous but nothing prepared me for the beauty of the estate. Debjit told me it was the yachting mansion of his great great grandfather. Inside things were even better. Nothing was changed to the original (or it would have to be the air-conditioning in the bedrooms) Everywhere you could revive the romantic atmosphere from the times of kings and maharajas. This is without doubt (Even after 8 earlier visits to India) one of the most impressive heritage stays I have visited. Even better are the hosts, they ensure your stay is an absolute memorable one and love to tell you stories about how the mansion was built and how things changed over the years. I had wonderful conversations with them both about all kind of topics and learned more about Indian society and religion than ever before. Namrata manages the excellent homemade cuisine, and every day you are treated with the most tasty delights from Odisha. The food is prepared with passion and all is very hygienic and clean. Did I mention the taste already? Mouthwatering. Debjit gave me numerous trips for sightseeing in the area. A jungle walk to a village from a tribe which is living in the former hunting grounds from his great great grandfather (if you’re lucky you might even encounter an elephant), a yoga class, a visit to ruins of Buddhist monasteries, or an elderly home of cows and bulls. He listens very carefully to your preferences, comes with ideas and organises it to perfection. I was lucky that my visit coincided with the mela in the village of Joranda, Debjit escorted me and explained everything in detail to me. And one final thing, safety… I have never felt so safe in India as in Kila Dalijoda. I did not have any problems leaving my iPhone or camera unattended, or my room unlocked. This place is as safe as your own house, a big compliment to Debjit and Namrata for this unique achievement in India!!! Kila Dalijoda is truly a labour of love. When you visit Odisha and love to catch the real spirit of India, whilst you indulge in the charm and luxury of a superb heritage home stay this is the place to go… And if there is one negative remark I have to make, I hated to leave. My 3 days over here have been an absolute dream, I can’t wait to return and share the experience with friends.

Warm hospitality comfort of the pace and feeling of being a part of history as the host narrates is heartwarming
This place is for mature tourists who can soak in the atmosphere in its entirety and savour every moment of its calming vibe. The hosts are more than welcoming and warm . Their genuine involvement to give the guests a true feel of the place is commendable. Their eye for detail in serving the authentic local food is praiseworthy. Overall a very fulfilling experience. They don’t run this place like a business, it’s truly a home away from home

A chance to support Indian Heritage.
As all the reviews here so rightly say, this property and its rooms along with its owners and staff, location and choice of activities and food are exceptional but what I did not know is that there are little or no subsidies available for the restoration and upkeep of Heritage properties in Odisha . This means that the payment for your stay here ( and I would recommend at least a few days to get the feel of the place and it's surroundings ) make a direct contribution in supporting the architectural Heritage of India.

Unici, in ogni senso.

Rural bliss in a lovingly renovated hunting lodge
This place is heaven. An old hunting lodge in proper countryside, lovingly restored by the great grandson of its originator, leaving all the old character safely intact. Thick walls, cool interior, original furniture, stained glass windows… I can’t recommend it highly enough to anyone who enjoys rural India. The walks and cycle rides are sublime, there’s swimming in the large pond (gorgeous), the neighbouring villages are fascinating. There are wonderful birds and butterflies, and stunning lily strewn wetlands a few kilometres away, where we were taken out in a lovely old canoe. Debjit Singh Deo and his wife Namrata radiate relaxed old-school charm. Their lovely daughter joined us for bicycle rides. Exceptional meals are served in a large airy room by the sweetest of staff. I went with Sophie from Holidays_in_rural_India - who knows what’s what and finds amazing places such as this! - and I’m already dreaming of my return.

A royal hunting lodge with a homely welcome
A story book hunting lodge in the beautiful Odisha countryside run by the sweetest warmest family. We went for a boat ride on silent wetland, we cycled through beautiful villages and walked in thick forest. This is a really wonderful place. Debjit and Namrata have restored their ancestral family home with a light tough leaving all the lovely old fashioned style in tact. We had rooftops rooms with views over hills and the well forested garden. Food is amongst the best I have eaten in India, company witty and informative. I left this morning and am already jiggling my diary to see if there is any chance I can get bank next month!!

Great, fantastic.
The hosts, Namrata and Debjit Singh Deo are excellent hosts, wear their past lightly, are convivial and great raconteurs.  Namrata, Debjit and their two lovable dogs will make anyone feel at home from the word go. Kila Dalijoda - a hunting lodge of the Panchkote royals of Manbhum of Bengal which has almost gone to seeds is being lovingly restored by the couple and is still a work in progress. One feels like a royal for the time one spends there. Kila Dalijoda sits on the lap of mother nature which is still unspoilt and is far from the madding crowd. The food is delectable and bear the influence of local Odia, Baghelkhandi (Namrata belongs there) and Manbhum/ Bengali (Debjit belongs to that aea) food. The crunchy Bhabra pitha with ghugni for breakfast was a revelation - ask for it. Want to get de-stressed? Head for Kila Dalijoda and enjoy the nature trail.
