Great, fantastic.
The hosts, Namrata and Debjit Singh Deo are excellent hosts, wear their past lightly, are convivial and great raconteurs.  Namrata, Debjit and their two lovable dogs will make anyone feel at home from the word go. Kila Dalijoda - a hunting lodge of the Panchkote royals of Manbhum of Bengal which has almost gone to seeds is being lovingly restored by the couple and is still a work in progress. One feels like a royal for the time one spends there. Kila Dalijoda sits on the lap of mother nature which is still unspoilt and is far from the madding crowd. The food is delectable and bear the influence of local Odia, Baghelkhandi (Namrata belongs there) and Manbhum/ Bengali (Debjit belongs to that aea) food. The crunchy Bhabra pitha with ghugni for breakfast was a revelation - ask for it. Want to get de-stressed? Head for Kila Dalijoda and enjoy the nature trail.

A peaceful escape from regular city humdrum
Just 50 km from Bhubaneshwar, the place offered a perfect and serene weekend to us. The high points are warm hospitality of the hosts and a perfect amalgamation of nature and heritage.

Authentic Heritage Royal Rural Retreat
Monsoon gets a special green meaning in rural Odisha. That I discovered at Kila Dalijoda a few days ago -- doing a solo recce for a bigger group from Delhi in the winters. I was looking for a place away from crowds that offered comfortable stay and food, with a bit of history and nature. What I got was a royal experience! Right from the moment I entered the sprawling double-storyed volcanic stone made homestay. (That unique royal bath ... what grandeur!) Debjit-Namrata's dedicated restoration work has brought life an Indian heritage we all want to live -- next to a Elephant Reserve. I managed to cram in a day a large part (next time visit will be only angling at the Mahanadi, dam and the private lakes ) -- thanks to Debjit. I would recommend a minimum 3-night stay. Connect with Nature ... Walk the Damdamni hills and forest trails (may chance on an elephant herd) ... Discover sacred groves and temples. Visit the recluse Shabar-Munda-Santal villages. Drive to the Tribal artisan villags (Dokra metalwork - Award winning silk and cotton weavers). Or simple chill (bring your own stuff as it's a countryside). Food is Authentic and Ethnic... what the hosts eat, so will you. Go for an all-inclusive fullboard plan to avoid any hassle. Kila Dalijoda and Debjit-Namrata: Unforgettable!!!

Living heritage making a difference
If you have been to India a few times and are looking for something different consider staying at Kila Dalijoda. Tucked away on the fringe of the forest and tribal areas north of Cuttack, this is the place to get out of the hustle and bustle of the cities, major tourist sites and clear your pipes with fresh air. Debjit and his family will welcome you into their former hunting lodge which is being restored as much as a labour of love than a business. You can sleep in a suite once used by the Maharaja at much lower cost than Udaipur! Your visit helps preserve this local landmark. With lively conversations you can discover much about the heritage of the area as well as so much more about the mythology, culture and history of India. The food is superb. Most of the dishes can't be found in restaurants being local and family recipes. In season, much of the produce is grown in the garden but everything else is sourced locally including the rice growing in the nearby fields on the estate. Meals are plentiful. You won't be hungry. Debjit can organise trips near and far whether trekking the 5km into the forest to meet tribal people (whilst we didn't see elephants, we saw droppings and footprints), a nearby step well or arrange transport to take you to other sites. The weaving village in particular is a very special experience. I saw a piece I'd seen started in 2019. In 2023 it has maybe five more years until it's ready for hanging in the Jagganath temple in Puri. Exquisite. You may come away with textiles from the manufacturer. Otherwise you can just use a bike or just wander into the neighbourhood. It's a friendly place. And if sitting around reading is your thing, where better? Going to the wetlands to be punted through the lotus gardens whilst abundant birdlife is in motion around you is not just a tranquil pleasure. Debjit has convinced the local people to stop trapping birds for food with the alternative income which tourism offers. You make a difference by showing up. In fact birdwatching, if that's your thing, is an activity you can really indulge here. We came in the monsoon time, which is quiet and the weather makes planning difficult but everything is so lush and green, the dust is washed away and after a downpour, the cooler air brings a great sense of well-being so don't let it put you off. Getting here is easier than you'd imagine and Debjit can advise or arrange transport to fill the gaps. This is my second visit. I'm hoping it's not my last.

Exceptional place, warm and personalised welcome, outstanding experience in the surroundings thanks to our host
Debjit and Namrata have many stories to tell about their home place - Kila Dalijoda, about their family and their ancestors who built the mansion and about India. And many places and people to visit around, with their guidance. It made our stay there a life experience. Thanks to them we gain a better and more profound understanding of India, this marvellous country. Our stay will remain in our memories ever.

Beautiful experience
Debjit and Namrata are excellent hosts and knowledgeable conversationalists who were able to give us a lot of information about life in Orissa, life in the wild and the development of society. One feels like a guest with good friends. One gets not only accommodation and full board, but also inspiration and well organized excursions. Thank you for this, from me a hundred percent recommendation.

Out of a fairy tale
Namrata and Debjit have re-created an idyllic world at Kila Dalijoda. Theirs is a labour of love, evidenced from their perennial attention to details and care for guests. This is one place that takes you back in time....and what a time it must have been! And the variety and taste of the food on offer! That'd require a separate chapter! Kila Dalijoda is one place where I can't wait to go back.

The homely Dalijoda lodge
Namrata and Debjit Singh Deo turn this old hunting lodge into a warm and comfortable experience. Living with them brings one face to face with the realities of residing in a forest, away from city conveniences. This is a true hands on experience in adaptation. While conversations with Namrata and Debjit are clearly the highlight of this experience, the food is simple but delightfully flavorful. While primarily Odhishan, their cuisine has a Bengali, Central Indian as well as a Gujarati influences, stemming from their backgrounds. However, their masterful adjustments would leave any western palate wonderstruck. Rice flour patties steamed in dried turmeric leaves to burnt cottage cheesecake, one finds eclectic flavors in this very simple appearing kitchen. If you are lucky, you may be treated to a dish of fresh baby bamboo shoots. If you are a fan, ask Namrata to make you Paan. The quality of the leaves from their garden betel nut creeper is subtle but distinctly sharp. The room and attached bath is spacious and very comfortable. Be prepared to meet some other friendly creatures, some more vocal than others! You are in a forest. Debjit has great relations with the other native folks (his neighbors) in the forest and beyond. Be prepared to walk. Personalized tours with Debjit to weaving or metal craft villages is a must. So are the trips to the forgotten step well and the Goushalla. Dalijoda is a rare and sobering experience that will linger in your thoughts for a long, long time.
