Interaction with guests
The owners (retired doctor and nutritionist wife) live in the old farmhouse, and are available for advice and practical help throughout the stay. Upon guests' arrival, we introduce the guests to the property, the house and the boathouse, and give practical information. Also, we use to sit down with the guests for half an hour or so, to answer questions and give information and suggestions about local attractions and activities according to the guests' interests. Often we prepare simple route descriptions for mountain walks or day-trips by car. We also help the unexperienced get started with using fishing gear, boats, kayaks etc. All this depending upon whether the guests want this interaction, of course.

Wow! The setting is amazing, the house was spacious and bright, the place was very clean, modern, well equipped and beautifully presented. The perfect base to tour the area as we did taking in the troll road (Trollstigen) and Europe's biggest glacier near Loen. Also...More

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, from fishing in the fjord, to exploring the local mountains and touring some of Norway's most spectacular scenery, with a comfortable and spacious home to come back to every evening. Highly recommended.

About the neighbourhood
Outdoor activitiesFishing: the log cottage Eldhuset has a beautiful location on the rim of small hill, a minute or two from the boathouse and fishing pier by the fjord. We are located in a bay and have several hundred meters of private shore. The beach is fine for swimming in warm weather, and children love to play at the beach. Fjord fishing is a popular activity. The stone pier is very suitable for rod fishing, and we also have for free use two classic wooden rowing boats and a glass fiber boat, and two kayaks. A glass fiber boat (16 ft) with an outboard engine (5 hp) can be rented (15 EUR/day). However, some of the best fishing in the fjord is just off our boathouse. Fishing gear and floating devices for all body sizes are included in the cabin rent. With the boat with an outboard engine, it is possible to go to the mouth of the fjord to deeper waters (some 8 km). If you want more adventure, day-trips for deep-water ocean fishing are arranged by tourist agencies in Molde and Alesund, each place about 1 hr by car (Alesund) or car+ferry/boat (Molde) from Eldhuset. Walking and mountain hiking: A popular activity with no need for a car, are short walks on the farm and hiking the forested mountain side (well marked paths). If you like, you can walk up to our small old mountain cabin (about 1 1/2 hrs) - you can choose between a gravel road (where cars can drive) and the rougher but very nice and romantic old path along the small river. The grass-roofed mountain cabin has a wonderful view and is nice as a resting place. For the very romantic not afraid of somewhat primitive conditions (wood stove and open fireplace, no electricity, no running water, dry toilet in the outhouse) who want to enjoy the summer night with a full moon over the mountains, we make the beds and bring what you need to stay till next day. From the mountain cabin, just above where the forest stops, several nice hiking trips on the flatter mountain terrain or to local mountain tops are possible. Further, within a 10-15 min drive from Eldhuset, many other hiking trips to waterfalls and mountain tops with gorgeous views can be done - we provide information and detailed route descriptions and maps. Some trips can be done in part or even fully on gravel roads, and bicycles (up to 4) are included in the rent so that one can combine biking for some kilometers with mountain walking. We assist with bringing you to the trailheads and back. Horseback riding: Tresfjord is a center for breeding and training Icelandic horses and also other horses, and several horse farms offer horseback riding, from the very small activities for kids to full-day (and even overnight) mountain riding expeditions. The hosts at Eldhuset will give more information, as well as practical advise.
Getting around
Fjord fishing and other fjord activities and some mountain walks from the site. More mountain walks 10-15 min and up to 45 min by car. Bikes also available. Most regional attractions (Aandalsnes, Trollstigen, Geiranger, Atlantic Road, etc) 45 min - 2 hrs by car. For some coastal attractions like the Atlantic Road, ferry Vestnes-Molde (Fjord1 company) - crossing takes 35 min, ferries run about every half an hour daytime weekdays. Local car rental on day-to-day basis available. Frequent buses from nearby Vestnes (10 min) to Aalesund, Molde/Kristiansund and Aandalsnes, some buses Tresfjord-Vestnes.
How to get there
Aalesund Airport Vigra has frequent fights from/to Oslo and also from/to Bergen (SAS/Widerøe and Norwegian), daily from/to Copenhagen (except week-ends)(SAS/Widerøe) and two daily flights from/to Amsterdam (KLM) and from/to London Gatwick (Norwegian) some days around the week-end . Molde Airport Aro has frequent flights from/to Oslo and also Bergen and Trondheim, and some days from/to Copenhagen. Other possibilities: - From Oslo Gardermoen airport by car 500 km through Gudbrandsdal Valley to Dombas and then Romsdal Vally (very beautiful river and mountains) to Andalsnes, 55 km drive along Romsdalsfjord direction Alesund to Tresfjord. A very nice 8 hr trip, you get a nice cross-section of Norway. - From Oslo Gardermoen airport by car about 500 km through Valdres Valley and Veldresflya across Jotunheimen mountains to Otta and Dombås (see previous route) or to Geiranger Fjord (very beautiful road), then the dramatic Eagle Road to Eidsdal, ferry to Linge, then via Sjoholt to Tresfjord. About 9 hrs. - From Trondheim by car via Dombås and Romsdal valley, or via Molde (via Dombås is somewhat longer in km but same driving time because of better roads) - From Bergen overnight with coastal steamer to Aalesund - rental car or bus to Tresfjord, or we pick you up in Alesund. OWNERs RECOMMENDATION: In summer, if you from Bergen instead of Alesund buy a ticket to the next stop Molde for just slightly more, you will get a very beautiful day cruise (on the same ship) for free on Geirangerfjord from/back to Alesund before the coastal steamer continues to Molde (early evening arrival) where we can meet you, or where you can rent a car- From Bergen by car across mountains and fjords: very varied and interesting route, several mountain passes and fjord crossings - you get to see much of Fjord Norway in just one day (or you may want to split it into two days for more relaxed travel).
