This area forms the backdrop to a number T.V. series including “All Creatures Great and Small”,'Heartbeat' and 'The Dales'. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty and offers a rural retreat. This is the ideal base for nature lovers and walkers who want to explore the beautiful Dales National Park as well as for visits to the brewing centre of Masham, the historic town of York, Medieval Abbeys at Rievaulx and Jervaulx, magnificent country houses (Castle Howard and Beningborough Hall) and breathtaking natural landscape features - Aysgarth and Ingleton Falls, Brimham Rocks Spennithorne is a thriving village situated on the edge of the Dales National Park. It has a popular inn [The Old Horn] serving lunch and dinner. It is 10 miles from the A1 and within reach of both coasts [e.g. Morecambe and Scarborough] and the Southern Lakes. The market town of Leyburn is 2 miles away and offers a variety of hostelries, excellent food, shopping facilities and craft workshops. Each of the Dales making up the National Park [Wensleydale, Swaledale, Wharfedale, Littondale etc] has its own individual character, which changes with the seasons and even from hour to hour, depending on the light. It is a fascinating area with which you will never become bored although you may become addicted! The area is ideal for touring and walking – the Park offers 1000 square miles of exhilarating walks amid magnificent scenery.

3 nights stay. Disappointed
We stayed here for 3 nights. Firstly the area is beautiful, lots of great walks. The local pub in the village is superb.would recommend eating there. The cottage is small which is fine but the overall cleanliness was poor. Old and tired decour and dirty utensils. The TV is not Smart, despite being advertised as such, and we could only get three channels for short periods. This has come up on reviews elsewhere but nothing is done. I cannot imagine staying here for a week. The information folder has not been updated and in the spirit of supporting local tourism, tells you nothing about the local pub or nearby areas. We are usually relaxed about our stays in cottages but this one is not as advertised in the text or the photos. There was no visitors book, otherwise we would have given feedback there. We have notified Yorkshire Cottages re the TV. No response yet!

A dirty musty dump, with filthy bed linen
I am not a person who ussualy leaves bad reviews in fact I don't usually revue places but in this instance I had to do it as it ruend my holiday. As I walked in the the place I was overwhelmed with the smell of dump and mould .But I tough i wouldn't let it spoil my holiday. So we opened all the windows and got a bit of fresh air. I looked around and we could see lots of cobwebs and spiders, but I wiped it off (we were trying to be positive and get on with our holiday). After this we went out for a meal, but on our return we couldn't believe our eyes on seeing the state of the bedroom. As I pulled back the duvets I noticed that that the bed linen hadn't been changed; it was heavily stained and covered in pubic hair and I did wonder how many people had shared this bed before us. I contacted the owner straightaway with pictures of what we had found but we didn't get any answer from her. I straight away contacted Trip Advisor and in the end we had to make the most of the night as it was getting late. After all we were in the middle of the country, and couldn't look for alternative accommodation at midnight. So we had to use the dirty beds but luckily I had brought lots of bath towels with me, wich we used to cover the beds to lay on. We slept in our clothes on the top of our towels. It was a terrible night and in the morning we decided that this was enough: we packed our clothes in the car and left the cottage, not knowing where we where going. Our 9 year daughter was highly distressed by the end of this saga. In the end (after 10 plus phone calls with Trip advisor) the owner had the guts to ask us to pay for 50% of the whole week for just sleeping 1 night in her filthy beds. We were outraged at such poor treatment. We are also very disappointed with Trip Advisor too, telling me that their policies don't cover cleanliness; this is such a bad loophole on their part, which allows them to get away with providing substandard accommodation. They also charged me a £68 booking fee for just one night accommodation, so we ended up paying £130 plus for this horrible experience Anyone after truly horrible holiday, look no further than this dingy, malodorous cottage.

A wonderful and peaceful retreat
My partner and I returned to this wonderful little cottage for a relaxing getaway, once again it didn't disappoint. This cottage is based in a wonderful location, in the rural countryside but just minutes away from the small town of Leyburn, where you can buy any supplies you need. We enjoyed dinner at the pub down the road (3 minutes walk) and discovered some wonderful walks. Once again I have to say the cottage catered for exactly what we wanted, a well equipped kitchen, cozy sitting room and very comfortable beds after long days of walking. I highly recommend this lovely cottage especially if you're looking for a base to go walking in the Dales.

Just as lovely the second time around
This was the second time I booked this cottage. As before the owner was very helpful, and the cottage was lovely; peaceful, cosy and very well equipped - especially the kitchen. Lots of good walks, pubs and restaurants within very easy reach. Recommend shopping in Campbells of Leyburn, the Coverbridge Inn, and the Saffron Curry house in Leyburn. All excellent.

Small well equipped comfortable cottage
We enjoyed our stay here, the cottage is quite small but comfortably furnished. The kitchen is well equipped and we cooked a few family meals here without any problem. Great location for visiting the Dales. Please note there is no wifi which would have been appreciated, particularly as we have a 15 year old son! Only thing to mention is parking, if you have a large car don't try to park outside the cottage. The neighbours don't allow you to turn in their space and it's too tight to turn. We had a great week here.

What a FANTASTIC Cottage
Where do I start?! This was a beautiful cottage in the idyllic Yorkshire Dales. The location is perfect for a break, as it is in a quiet location with lots in the area to do, including great walks, pubs, local attractions and beautiful scenery. The cottage is perfectly furnished, and sleeps four comfortably. I have already recommended to friends and family and am planning my next visit to this fantastic cottage. Highly, highly recommended!

Cosy cottage, parking slight problem
Small 2 bedroom cottage, with kitchen diner and small lounge with stairs at back of lounge. Small bathroom with shower over corner bath.Well equipped kitchen but if intend cooking/baking which require weighing scales take your own. Nicely positioned just outside Leyburn and for ie Wensleydale, Swaledale and Coverdale (recommended). There are bees nesting in eaves above twin bedroom window, but did not cause any problem. Main problem was parking as in a courtyard in front of the cottages, very cramped, with narrow entrance and next door No 2 also holiday let, and occupants were in large 4x4 so parking was awkward. For ease getting away in morning parked on main road outside church, as next door were late out in morning and back early in evening

Escape to the Dales
My wife , Grandson and I had 4 nights in this cottage as a treat for our Grandson who loves the Dales life. The cottage is set off the road in the quiet village of Spenithorne. The facilities were very clean, practical and comfortable, all the facilities you need for cooking meals, storing food and entertainment are available. Adjacent to our cottage was a washroom facility with washer, dryer and freezer, we did not use them but they were available if needed. A nice garden outside our cottage with good tables and chairs was a great retreat for a cuppa and a shot of vitamin D (sunshine). The owners were very friendly and sorted any needs we may have e.g. we forgot to fully read the info and assumed towels were included so did not take any, the owners Mum very kindly supplied a full set for our use. The nearest pub is 500m away - The Old Horn - and provides good local ale and well cooked pub grub - well worth a visit. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this cottage and area and may well return again.

A comfortable, clean and cosy cottage
One of our most cherished weeks stay in a pretty cottage thoughtfully set out by the owner. It was peacefully situated and yet close to many activities offered by the Dales. The cottage was very comfortable, spacious and very well presented.

First Class, No complaints, Ideal for seeing the Dales
We found this cottage ideal for all the near dales especially Swaledale and Wensleydale. We covered an area within thirty miles and the weather was wonderful.
