Pros: On arriving at the lodge, the scenery is beautiful, and a beautiful setting. The lodge itself is lovely, an upside down lodge, with bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs, which in the very hot weather we had, was a welcome relief as they were cooler. Dick (the owner) was there when we arrived, went through key safe and a couple of other things.
Cons: Upstairs, the main living/dining area became unbearable in the heat, we were advised to keep windows, doors shut, and blinds closed to keep the area cool. With the heatwave we had this did not work, nor opening doors, windows or blinds, did any good. Maybe some fans could be provided. On arrival, we noticed that the kitchen units, which were high gloss, were quite dirty, there were streaks, runs, greasy marks, all down the front of the units, we spent the first hour or so, cleaning these down, spraying, cleaning and drying off. We didn’t do all of the units, just the main ones. We were told, quite rudely, when we were leaving, the units had been sprayed because of COVID. There were food items left in the fridge and freezer, which should have been cleared.
Downstairs, the beds were awful, cheap metal framed beds, which creaked and made a noise everytime you moved, pillows and mattresses were extremely hard and uncomfortable, not good for a good nights sleep. Single quilts on double beds. The bedroom windows were next to the drive to the main house, and their car was parked right outside the windows, so on a night when we were in bed, when they came back in, all you could here was the car doors slamming, laughing giggling and talking when they got out of the car. In their description and rules it states that any rowdy or noisy parties are not allowed, maybe they need to follow their own advice as they seemed to make no effort to be quiet, even though they had guests at the lodge. This also prevented us from opening the bedroom windows. Rubbish left in the bathroom bin, so had not been emptied. The fans in the bathrooms were full of dust. The shaver socket could not be used without switching on the illuminated mirror, so in order to charge an electric toothbrush , the mirror light needed to be switched on and kept on. It was such a shame about all of the problems, because the lodge itself was in such a gorgeous setting. We did leave a day earlier than expected.
