Holiday Rental House
Nestled on the slopes of San Pedro Volcano and overlooking the two volcanoes (all inactive) and town of Santiago, is the acreage called Orchids on the Lake. It's the perfect quiet natural retreat and a very special place to experience the lake. Secluded and yet close to civilization, the property is just a 5 minute boat ride across the picture perfect bay to Santiago and connecting boats to all other parts of the lake. The main floor with the kitchen, dining area, living room, and bathroom offer great character with its volcanic stone walls and fireplace and wood re-appropriated from the old Guatemalan railway. With its two spacious bedrooms and bathroom, the upstairs of the house offers simply incredible views. Its sunny 50' foot veranda makes for a nice place to tuck away with a book...Nestled on the slopes of San Pedro Volcano and overlooking the two volcanoes (all inactive) and town of Santiago, is the acreage called Orchids on the Lake. The main floor with the kitchen, dining area, living room, and bathroom offer great character with its volcanic stone walls and fireplace and wood re-appropriated from the old Guatemalan railway. With its two spacious bedrooms and bathroom, the upstairs of the house offers simply incredible views. Its sunny 50' foot veranda makes for a nice place to tuck away with a book or just to enjoy the views across the lake. The property is 100% off the grid (solar-powered), but in a way that you won't notice nor be inconvenienced. We just ask that you be mindful of your use of electricity and water to be eco friendly. The kitchen is fully equipped and stocked with basics and there's a great market in Santiago for fresh fruit, produce, and all the necessities. There are no restaurants or stores on this side of the bay - only gardens, a beautiful yard filled with flowers, lots and lots of birds including or resident hummingbirds and butterflies. The on-site host couple will help you organize your sightseeing and any special interests you have. They will be on the property, but out of sight in a small cottage nearby and can give you complete privacy if you wish, or all the help you'd like. After your days exploring on the lake, the property is the perfect place to come back to. Relax in a comfortable chair on the veranda and take in the breathtaking scenery. Please note: at this time, because of recent changes in technology, internet access is through your unlocked Smartphone. I can supply you with a local chip and you choose and pay for the package that best suits your needs. I can give you the number before you get to the property so you can buy when and where it's easiest for you once you get to Guatemala. More

About the neighbourhood
There is boat-access only to the property itself - allowing for a great secluded getaway. There are local farmers who row over in their cayukos a few days each week to work on their gardens and return to town in the afternoons, though our property is big enough not to even notice them - truly surrounded by trees and nature. The property is 5 minute boat ride away from the town of Santiago, where there are facilities like restaurants, shopping, etc. This means that you are in a quiet, private environment while here. Very special with an incredible view. But not for people who are looking for more action. We work with a private boat operator who is on call for transport for trips across to town and elsewhere around the lake. He works from 8 a.m. til 5 p.m. so you should be prepared to spend ...
