I visited Trujillo with my daughter for six weeks over the summer. We stayed at Casa 17, Casa de Alta the entire stay. Let me start by saying this is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. I would go sit on the porch each morning and sip the best Honduran coffee and just take in the serenity of nature. The house had a well equipped kitchen and plenty of linens including towels. The washer and dryer worked well and quickly. There is a dishwasher, but if you are wanting to use it I’d recommend bringing your own dish detergent. You can buy most things in Trujillo but very few people have dishwashers so you won’t find the soap for it. We had friends join us half way though that brought us some and we left it for the next guest. There is a massive porch that spans the back of the house. It’s covered and well appointed with comfortable furnishings. The pool is a refresher on a hot day in Trujillo and we used it daily. There is no television in the house which is just fine for us but good to know if that is important to you. We opted to purchase internet for our stay because we were there so long. This was a must have as cell service did not work for us at the house. The internet was dependable as long as the power was up. If we go back to Trujillo and rent a house we would stay here again in a minute. The property manager Cathy was extremely kind and attentive. She did her best to meet our needs. We used WhatsApp to communicate most of the time and she was very prompt with her responses. She also lives in the community so she was very well aware of our needs, and very helpful with information for the local community. She helped us find the best restaurants and put us in contact with people that could give us tours of the local area. She was a godsend. At one point we were struggling with ants and she sent someone out to spray the next day. Her groundskeeper Lorenzo is also an amazing human and I’m proud to call him my friend to this day. He would stop by to work and I’d bother him for a Spanish lesson. He was always kind and helpful. My daughter got sick while we were there and he brought us multiple fresh coconuts so she could have the water. I cannot say enough good things about how kind and welcoming they were. We never felt unsafe for a moment. The security was really great also. Every time I came through the gate, there was another security guard waiting at the front of the house for me to make sure that I got there and got inside safely. There was a security guard that regularly patrolled this house and the one next-door all day long. We would frequently see him and it brought some peace of mind just know he was there. Although I never felt unsafe anywhere in Trujillo, when we first got there we did not know what to expect and this gave us a lot of peace. Another really great thing about this property is that there are no mosquitoes! I did not get bit by a single mosquito while at the house. When you go into town it’s another story, but the elevation and the breezes seem to keep them away. Things to consider: This is Honduras. It’s a developing country. Power goes out frequently but usually briefly. There are bugs. It’s a rainforest. We saw ants, spiders, geckos, scorpions, etc... they don’t bother you much if you don’t bother them. It’s hot. There is AC in the master bedroom which we slept in and used when we were uncomfortable. The house was comfortable most of the time if the windows were open and fans were on. When we got too hot we jumped in the pool. None of this impacted our stay much. The only con I feel I need to mention is about the community road. Campa Vista is a stunning neighborhood!! It’s mountainous and heavily trees. The road is a dirt/gravel road that has been very poorly maintained. We were dependent on taxis to get around early on and they were quite expensive from the mountain. It’s a few miles outside of town which increases their prices. We often had to walk part way down the mountain to meet them as they could not scale the roads. Not too far, but it was very rocky terrain and very steep so this would be something to consider if you have mobility issues. One taxi got stuck. The security guards came and helped him get out. We ultimately rented an SUV and that did great until our last night. A rain storm came through and we got stuck going back up to the house. Now that I know how to manage this, I would do things a bit differently and would still rent this house, but I wish I had known how bad the roads were out of the gate because I would’ve made a different transportation plan. I probably would’ve rented an SUV on day one. The rustic Road is absolutely worth it for the stunning views and the piece that you get staying here. If you don’t mind having a little bit of an adventure, you will not be disappointed at all. This trip is one of the highlights of my life. These people are some of the most wonderful people I’ve ever met and Trujillo truly captured a piece of my heart. We loved it so much we’ve even been considering purchasing a home in Campa Vista. It was rumored that they were working on repairing the roads in the very near future so that may not be an issue for you and I would not let them dissuade you. Just go in prepared. I hope you love this place as much as I do.

High on a hill with a view of the Caribbean this new, well-equipped, beautifully furnished home is the perfect family getaway. Love the hammocks on the sweeping porch, the pool was great, and cooked great fresh fish on the grill. Life is good. Best of all we loved the privacy. The gated community provides security. The house is located between Trujillo and Santa Fe with easy access to the beach and restaurants. This was not our first visit to the area. We were surprised at the improvements as Trujillo is sprucing up for the arrival of the cruise ships. The changes are good but I hope the cruise ship business does not alter the laid-back ambiance of the area.

We love this place because it is like owning our own house in the rainforest without any of an owner's responsibilities. It is so peaceful and has a beautiful view. This is the second time we stayed here and hope to return next year. We could spend hours on the huge porch/balcony starting with watching the sunrise to seeing the sun set. And...having my private pool!
