Lovely Country Getaway But So Convenient For Santiago
This was a really lovely place to stay. The location is excellent, just outside the small town of Pirque. You feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, but at the same time, the property is less than 45 minutes to the centre of Santiago meaning you can combine both city and country life very easily. Around Pirque itself there are several vineyards in the Maipo Valley, including Concha y Toro and Santa Rita, the latter boasting a great restaurant and interesting museum in beautiful grounds. There's a very nice parrillada (Chilean bbq) restaurant 5 minutes down the road (called La Vaca Echada) and you're a short drive from San Jose de Maipo up in the mountains. There are thermal baths up there but they're down a poorly maintained dirt road- it is beautiful and worth the trip, though. The house itself is very comfortable and well maintained and the outside deck is fantastic for relaxing and just lounging around, reading a book. The garden of the property is full of fruit trees and giant palm trees. If you're lucky, the caretaker might be able to give you some fresh vegetables from the garden! I would definitely recommend the property to anyone looking for a relaxing get away, especially if you don't want to be too far from Santiago.

A few days in paradise - literally!
My husband and I love to travel, and have decided seeing all the continents before starting a family sounded like a great idea. Why we chose Santiago, I am not sure, but it was a wonderful experience with a very satisfactory ending. We began our trip in the city, and ended it in paradise at Casa Ishi. This villa was beyond any expectation, and we left with no regrets. Not only was there every fruit tree you could think of - limes, lemons, oranges, apricots, dates - but you can enjoy every one. My husband and I picked apricots, and made apricot preserves to enjoy each morning with toast. We picked fresh green onions from the garden to jazz up our homemade tomato soup. Did I mention the whole chicken we baked in the outdoor oven? This villa is a little slice of heaven in an adorable small town. And not to mention the vineyards just a short drive away. If you are thinking of visiting Santiago, take a couple of days in the city, and then venture to paradise for the remainder of the trip. You can always make day trips to the city, but in the evening enjoy the serene atmosphere on the terrace, listen to the river rush in the background while you watch the sun set in the mountains. The owners of the property were visiting the same time as we were, and were a delight. They were very helpful in giving directions when we lost our way, and really know their way around the town. They have great tips on where to shop, where to eat, and even what to drink! We had the pleasure of joining them for dinner, taking full opportunity of the scenery, dining outdoors on a meal cooked in the outdoor oven. The caretakers of the property were also very helpful. Overall, I would come back to Casa Ishi in a heartbeat and would recommend it to everyone I know. It might be a few years, but we hope to come back!

Great Location
Four of us stayed in the villa for five nights while we toured the Maipo and Casablanca wine areas. The villa is very comfortable and well set up for self catering. We had the occasional lunch out and had dinner at the villa.Good local lunch places are La Calma de Rita and the restaurant at Santa Rita vineyard Dona Paula. After wine tasting it was very easy to go to the local supermarket (only 7 kms down the road) and pick up beers etc and sit on the deck back at the Villa and reflect on the day. Lovely spot and would highly recommend it.

Perfect place to stay in Santiago area!
My family of five stayed in Casa Ishi which was a perfect base from which to explore the Santiago area and coastal attractions. The three bedroom home was a very clean, nicely decorated and we found a fully stocked kitchen where we prepared many of our meals. The beds were very comfortable and we had no trouble falling to sleep accompanied by the sound of the rapids from the nearby Maipo River. We chose this property because it was not in the hustle and bustle of busy Santiago. We were away from the city noise and traffic, able to listen to the birds in the trees while we relaxed and drank a little local wine while sitting on the patio. However, the location of the property which had beautiful grounds and gardens to enjoy, is a wonderful "base" from which to explore Santiago. We, in a rented SUV, made day trips to Santiago, Valparaiso, Vina del Mar, visited wineries, rafted the Rio Maipo (fun), saw beautiful vineyards, and almond, walnut and fruit orchards south of Santiago. Restaurants are close by and the supermarket was only a beautiful seven km away. The grounds keeper and his wife were super! And, they cooked two meals for us...steaks on the grill and tasty baked chicken in the traditional mud oven. Maria will even do laundry if needed. We enjoyed the free wifi too which my sons communicated with their wives back in Texas. Overall this property was exactly what we were looking for...on the outskirts of Santiago, quiet, yet close to major roads and attraction. This rental gives you the feel of actually living in this beautiful area of Chile. Michelle, the owner, while not present on the property was very nice and helpful in answering questions and making suggestions. If we ever return to Chile we will certainly stay at Casa Ishi.

Lovely Country Getaway!
We loved Casa Ishi and our hosts! The house was beautiful inside and out. The bedrooms were lovely and the kitchen and other living areas were beautifully decorated, comfortable, and spacious. The view from the terrace area is breathtaking, especially over a bottle of wine at sunset. We spent our days wandering the property, picking plums, oranges, lemons, avocados, and unbelievably delicious figs. We drove to a vineyard one day (there are plenty close by to choose from) and ate at La Calma de Rita which we recommend. This was the perfect way to get away from the traffic and noise of Santiago without driving too far. Michelle was such a gracious host - even going so far as to purchase a new outdoor table for our large group. Our group (made up of ages 1 to 70) had a wonderful time and hope to be back!

Staycation away!
Seldom does one find such a place as Casa Ishi. From the moment of our arrival on a Monday afternoon until we left on Saturday evening, we felt as if we had uprooted our neighborhood back in Texas and transplanted it to Pirque, Chile. We were fortunate that the owners of the property were on premises the entire time we were there and really made us feel at home. We had asked for an arrival meal to be prepared, to ease our transition into the week, after flying all night from DFW. Because the caretakers wife was on another job site that day, she had prepped our meal the evening before and Michelle, the owner, graciously completed the preparation and invited us to have lunch with her and her husband - at their house! What an introduction! Over the course of the week, we were introduced to friends and neighbors, developed an evening cocktail/wine ritual and even had them to our house to share a dinner one night and had a progressive dinner between their house and ours, another night. We were recommended to a guide/chef, Marco, by the owners, who picked us up one morning, gave us a fantastic highlights tour of Santiago, took us to the huge produce market and to the fresh fish market where we purchased items for that nights dinner. We then were taken to lunch and a quick little tour of Barrio Italia and back home to Casa Ishi, where we assisted Marco in preparation of our dinner and enjoyed a great evening and wonderful food and fellowship. We only left the property two other times both of those days were to take a wine excursion that we had planned on our own. Each day, we actually shortened our normal touring time, because we couldn't wait to get back "home". Because we like to cook and hang out at home, this place was perfect for us. It's what we do at home in Texas, with our friends and neighbors. Are there lots of things to do offsite, while staying at Casa Ishi absolutely! Did we do a lot of them absolutely not Why Because it was just that relaxing and pleasant.

Keep us want to return many more times
Casa Ishi, a charming guest house, sits in a gorgeous, historical property. Casa Ishi offered us a very relaxing stay during our visits to Santiago and wineries. If you are like me who have a deep interest in food, including local Chilean cuisine, staying Casa Ishi is a must. The property has many fruits trees in the garden. We foraged any fruits which are at the hight of their ripeness - oranges, red and purple plums, mini avocado, lemon, grapes. The fruits grown under the strong sun of Chile suprised us with their extremely concentrated, powerful and amazing sweet flavor. The property is looked after by the caretaker. The wife of the caretaker cooks delicious meals - simple and very flavorful. Many of the dishes are cooked in the mud oven which was crafted by her husband. Pastel de choclo, pork with pineapple, Chilean pizza...are some of must dishes to try. Do not forget to enjoy her dishes with local wine!

A wonderful place to stay and a great base for touring
Casa Ishi as the photos show is a wonderful facility fully equipped with every amenity for a stress-free, carefree stay. But it is what is not shown in the pictures that makes the place so special. Every morning before breakfast just outside our door we could pick. plums (2 varieties!), oranges, lemons, avocados, grapes, figs, peaches, nectarines and more. And the owners recommended an excellent driver who took us to sites in the city, nearby villages, one specializing in pottery (we bought a bunch) and many local wineries (great tours and tastings). Maria, the on-site caretaker's wife and an excellent cook, at our request prepared several delicious dinners for us using an outdoor wood-fired mud oven. Even with rush hour traffic we could visit and enjoy excellent restaurants in Santiago. Don't forget the friendly dogs, Kuro and the frisky puppies Lucky and Star. As a quiet, serene place to stay and as a base for exploration of Santiago and the nearby wine-producing valleys Casa Ishi can't be beaten.

Cool place in the foothills of the Andes.
This relaxing property is in the Santaigo suburb of Pirque about 50 minutes from downtown (but only 7 minutes from the Concha y Toro winery). Michelle, her husband and caretakers Claudio and Maria were always available to help but unobtrusive. We had two nice dinners in Santaigo and Michelle arranged for a driver so we could relax and enjoy wine at the restaurants. It is right on the road to the San Francisco glacier and access to the Andes. Good beds and kitchen.

Amazing place in a beautiful location
Four of us stayed at Casa Ishi in late February 2015. From the first moment - even from the time we made the booking - everything went as well as it could. Michelle, the owner, was highly responsive and the booking was easy. Prior to our arrival, Michelle consulted on day trips and even recommended our wonderful driver Mauricio, without whom our trip would not have been as wonderful as it was. The property is stunning. The meticulously maintained garden has trees with an endless bounty of fruit - figs, avocados, oranges, apples, quince, walnut - which we were free to pick as we chose. A welcoming bottle of red wine awaited us as we "checked in" and settled into the guest house. The rooms are clean and spacious, the two terraces are great spaces to relax in with a glass of Chilean wine, the bathrooms are first rate, and having Internet was an added bonus. The house is also close to numerous wineries, including Concha y Toro. We truly loved our time at Casa Ishi. With wonderful hosts, a beautiful location, and outstanding comfort, I feel very comfortable recommending it without hesitation to anyone considering a visit to Santiago.
