★ El Triunfo de la Cruz is an ancestral Garifuna community with almost 10,000 inhabitants. It's one of Honduras most famous ethnic groups and natural jewels. It's a very safe place to relax or do research. Located within the Punta Izopo Natural Reserve and near the city of Tela. Among its attractions are: its beautiful beaches, the Cerro Triunfo de La Cruz, the Laguna Negra, the rivers Plátano, Gamma and Hicaque, its culture, dance (la Punta), dialect (Garifuna), music, drinks, and typical foods.
Everything is at walking distance in Triunfo de la Cruz. There are only 2 streets, one main and one secondary. Many alleys and passages connect with each other and run through the whole community. Vehicles can circulate through the alleys, and only people can walk through the passages. These small dirt roads are narrow and without nomenclature, but you can get anywhere just by asking a local, since everyone knows each other. Although the community lacks many basic services, the inhabitants live happily and in harmony, almost no criminals or criminal acts are registered.
If you'd like to visit other cities nearby, like Tela, it's best to go by car, taxi, bus or 'moto taxi' that take you at very accessible prices.
