Guest Access Guests can access all the facilities in the house as well as the garden area and the riverside. They can access the river by our canoe (under proper supervision) Interaction with Guests As this is set up in a non-commercial, residential family estate. You will have the unique opportunity of observing day to day routine of our community and hopefully get a deeper perspective into a unique way of life, our culture and traditions. The Neighborhood We are in Panagad Island which is in close proximity to the main arterial highway in Kerala, the NH 7. On the other side of the river is a quaint almost magical village temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The adjoining Cheppanam island and areas beyond have some of the best (and yet undiscovered) landscapes co-exisitng with modern facilities like a specialty yacht club, international schools and a super specialty hospital. This is also a great stop for birdwatching enthusiasts. The house is within a 5 mile radius of some well known hotel resort chains - Le Meridien, Crowne Plaza, Ramada, Whytefort. Getting around While public transport by bus, auto-rickshaw are easily accessible and frequent, we recommend chauffeured taxis that can be booked for short and long journeys on a hourly / daily basis. These can be arranged at short notice. Payments need to be made directly to the provider of the service. Other Things to Note This home owned and operated by ex-hoteliers who understand hospitality and how to provide a hassle free home away from home experience.

Relaxing stay with incredible views!
This bungalow really was a retreat! The house was very clean, comfortable and well-maintained. Lots of ceiling fans and AC in the bedrooms so no trouble staying cool. The host was always available to answer questions and helpful in making arrangements for activities and car services. The location was so serene, covered in lush greenery and located right on the backwaters with a lovely patio to sit and admire the gorgeous views, especially of the sunrise! We really enjoyed staying outside of the city and calling an Uber was never any trouble. Food and grocery delivery was also very easy as there were many options close by. We definitely plan to go back again!

Wonderful stay in Monsoon
We had a fantastic time in Infanta's home. It is truly beautiful, even in monsoon. Infanta was a wonderful host, with great little touches like buying bread and milk. The villa was very very spacious; a real luxury for the four of us staying. Very good value for money with a host that would be always helpful, but gave us space & privacy. The only thing we would have changed is that we would have stayed for longer. Many thanks Infanta

Best Holiday Ever!
So where do I start! I have often read reviews on here and thought is it really that good? What I can say about the beautiful riverside retreat and the wonderful Infanta, it really is as good as the reviews make it sound! Infanta’s skills as a host are unrivalled. If you book to stay here, you truly will be privileged. We spent the most amazing time here in this most beautiful of settings, not only did it live up to the expectations generated by the reviews listed on TripAdvisor, it exceeded them! We arrived on the Sunday and were met by Infanta (Who may I add, assisted us by arranging a taxi from the airport) and shown around the property. Infanta had gone to the trouble to ensure that there were eggs, butter, bread and milk so we could make breakfast. The house itself is a hidden gem in a beautiful location that made us feel that we were really getting to see the real Kerala. Set in a jungle like setting with Coconut, banana trees all around and the noise of all the local birdlife, it truly was a magical place. The property has a well equipped kitchen that will allow you to prepare all food and drinks you would need for a whole family. The property has unhindered views across water to a beautiful Hindu temple that at various times of the day you can hear the quite sounds of worship/ceremony that really added to the experience. For the nature lovers out there it is the most amazing place to view the local wildlife as you just have to position yourself in one of the hammocks or a chair on the veranda to see the wildlife put on a show that feels like it’s just for you. We saw kingfishers, parrots, eagles, black kites, woodpeckers all without leaving the garden! There are shops within walking distance and a larger supermarket just a short Tuk Tuk ride away. As a host, Infanta was superb! She allowed us the use of a local mobile in case we needed her assistance booking Tuk Tuks etc. Infanta made us feel really welcome, as did her wonderful sister in law who lives next door! We were there for my partners Birthday, so arranged in advance for a traditional Keralan celebration meal to mark the occasion. Infanta and her sister in law arranged the most wonderful meal of Jackfruit curry, Rice and timbale, vegetables, and a wonderful mango curry that was just divine! It really made for a special Birthday that we will never forget. Infanta was always contactable if we needed her for anything (which outside of booking transport, we did not need however, it was nice to know that she was just a phone call away). The beauty of the location is that it is close enough to everything that you will want to see in the area, but far enough away that you will feel a million miles away from the hustle and bustle when you have down days. I would say if you are looking for a great place to stay in Kerala, look no further than riverside retreat. The place will forever hold a very special place in our hearts, as will Infanta. We will be coming back, thank you for the memories

Utterly wonderful
If you are the type of tourist who wants to be in amongst the ‘action’ and to have places like the Chinese Nets (vastly overrated and very dirty IMO) within a stroll then go and stay in Fort Kochi itself amidst the noise and the constant bustle. If you want to stay somewhere within easy reach of all these places, but peaceful and relaxed then this is the place for you. The house is spacious and located out of the way of everything, indeed it took me a day or two to get my sense of how to link to things like Uber and the local TukTuks. It is in an ‘up and coming’ area of quiet residential properties and has a lovely backwater outlook. You have three seated areas, one of which has a ceiling fan so you can sit out either in sunshine or seek the shade as you choose. Windows are all meshed so can be left open for maximum breeze but all the flying nasties are kept out. The kitchen is well equipped and large if you choose to cook or just prepare salads etc. Both bedrooms are air conditioned, and all rooms have ceiling fans. We were very comfortable in our three week stay here. Infanta is very helpful, will sort TukTuks (who sometimes don’t quite know where they are going but don’t like to worry you until you get there) provides a local mobile to hire Ubers and is on the end of What’s App for any problems. We did not have our own transport, and at our age the provided bikes were not an option. Getting about is ridiculously cheap - a 30 minute Uber ride to Lulu Mall (the modern wonder of Kochi with a great Hypermarket) costs less than RS 300. We tended to eat out during the day and either bring stuff back to eat in the evening, or use Mazban (menu provided in house) who will deliver, who quickly becomes the simplest solution and his prices are incredibly cheap, and over three weeks we never had a bad meal from him. Infanta organised a superb backwaters day for us, so good we repeated it - worth doing this through her as everything is sorted and you just have to be ready for the taxi at the specified time. The guys she uses are charming and are based at a small creek not where the main houseboats are so you get a much better relaxed experience. The property is sandwiched between two temples. This has its downside if you want to lie in and have no early wake up calls. In fact a Brahminy Kite roosts in one of the back palm trees and tends to be awake from around 5 a.m. with the temples starting their music from 5:30. You either have the capacity to turn over and go back to sleep or you get up. I got into the habit of early to bed, early to rise which was no hardship. The bonus for me was sitting listening to the music drifting across the backwater and watching the sunrise and the glorious colours in the sky. I am a nature lover, and whilst the range of nature is less than out in the rural areas, there is still much to see. The Brahminy Kites circling on the thermals, the Cormorants and Egrets flying up and down the backwater, the lizards and Palm squirrels. You also will get Babblers attacking their reflections in the mirrored windows, Mynas and Drongos, and spectacularly displaying two different types of Kingfishers taking dragonflies on the pond in the garden. If your idea of a stay in India is to have space, and to work to your own schedule then this is a truly wonderful location. If you want a break from the ‘today it must be’ type whistle stop tour then this is like a little oasis of calm. We are so pleased we chose to stay here for 3 weeks out of our month in India.

Excellent stay and host!!
The house is in a wonderful location, in a quiet, peaceful, lush area, away from the bustle of the city, and yet just a short ride by taxi/Uber to Fort Kochi, its shops, sites, restaurants etc. The garden is on the backwaters literally, with shaded areas all around the house, dining tables, hammocks etc. The house contains everything you need for self-catering and the rooms are large and airy. There are even a couple of bicycles, which are very handy to go around, buy food or take-away from the local shots and restaurants. Infanta is a very nice host, very helpful, always ready to give advice and recommendations if needed. We only wish we could have stayed longer! We stayed for a week as a family of 2 adults and 2 children. We strongly recommend this place and this host.

A restful and very lovely riverside house.
We have enjoyed our stay here very much. The setting is so beautiful with sounds of the temple drifting across the water and a variety of bird life to view. The house is comfortable with all you will need for self-catering, a lovely riverside terrace and very friendly neighbours. The neighbourhood is has several shops, within walking or cycling distance. Infanta, the owner, is most helpful and will arrange for John Philip to drive you wherever you may want to go, at a very reasonable price. I would gladly recommend this home.

The perfect place to wind down and relax.
We stayed at the Idyllic Riverside Retreat for 5 weeks; 3 weeks as a party of 2 and the last 2 weeks as a group of 4. We were welcomed most warmly on arrival by the owner, Mrs Infanta Menon (who has many years in the hotel and hospitality industry), and shown around the property and the facilities; the house was clean, well furnished and very comfortable. The property, set in large grounds adjacent to a river, is in a semi-rural location away from the hustle and bustle of Kochi but is close enough to easily reach the city by taxi. For more local exploration, the owner provided 2 mountain bikes which we used on a daily basis for shopping and local sight seeing. We used the property as a base to make short (2 or 3 day) visits to other parts of Kerala and other Southern Indian states; for our purposes it was ideal, providing a relaxing and quiet environment in between the various trips. Mrs Menon was pivotal in helping us plan these trips, recommending accommodations, organizing transport and such like and was so, so helpful in every way, thus making our holiday all the more enjoyable. I would definitely come here again and thoroughly recommend the property for longer term visits to Kerala.

A beautiful and welcoming paradise
We stayed at Infanta's beautiful residence in Kochi, Kerala for one week in November 2014. Her accommodation i spotlessly clean, spacious, well decorated and with a wonderfully kitchen (a holiday cook's paradise). The view from the back of the house, bird life and tranquility is an atmosphere not to be missed. As a host Infanta was thoughtful and welcoming e.g. there was fresh milk and bread in the fridge on our arrival and attentive to any need we had, if required, without being intrusive e.g. giving advice on how to cook fish and showing us how to get fresh coconut milk from the tree in her garden, and supplying us with fresh coconut oil. Information regarding recommended trips, travel needs and take away food was readily available in the house and by asking Infanta. If we return to Kerala we will not hesitate to stay in her beautiful house again. Infanta cares about her guests and we would highly recommend this home stay.
