You step into the garden and are greeted by a riot of colours. The clean air brings you samples of fresh fragrances from the flowers around. The leaves and grass sparkle as sunlight reflects off crystalline dew drops.
Time slows down to let you take it all in and enjoy every sound, sight, smell and sensation that the place has to offer.
You can spend hours watching birds or see what the resident Malabar giant squirrels are up to or maybe a colourful butterfly you've never seen before will grab your attention, there may be a fascinating insect that you would like to observe, you could walk down to the stream to soak your feet in the cold water or sit down with an interesting book and a cup of hot tea as mist begins to envelop the surroundings.
These are just some of the many possible ways to get back in sync with nature and unwind. This is Erin Villa.
Erin Villa is a 150+ year old heritage building that used to belong to an Irish couple. It comprises of the main house and a guest cottage. It is situated on 6-acres of land located 1.8 kms from the main Coonoor town on a private road leading to Singara Estate.
The guest cottage has 2 bedrooms with attached bathrooms, a sitting room, a dining room, a kitchenette, a living room and an extra toilet and can comfortably accommodate 4+2 people.
It's a haven for nature lovers and has a profusion of flora and fauna. Wildlife enthusiasts can occasionally spot deer, bisons, Malabar giant squirrels, porcupines, wild hares, mongooses and bears. You can spot at least 40+ different species of birds and as many different types of flowers and plants if not more, in and around the property.
There's also a stream which is easily accessible and a waterfall (reaching it requires a short trek and we recommend carrying a pair of rubber boots for safety if you want to get to it). All this can be found within the 6-acre property which is surrounded by tea covered hills on two sides, a forest on one side and a view of the plains below.
In short, this is the place to come to if you want to enjoy unadulterated nature that's far away from traffic, pollution, gadgets, and technology. Good restaurants, tourist spots such as Sims park, Lambs rock, Dolphins nose, etc are within a 10-15 minutes drive. Other places of interest like Ooty, Kotagiri, Catherine falls etc, are within a 45 minutes drive.
Breakfast is complimentary and you have two options-
1. The kitchenette in the cottage will be stocked with juice, milk, cornflakes, eggs, bread, jam, butter, tea bags and coffee. The required utensils, cutlery, a toaster, a stove and an electric kettle is provided and you can make your breakfast.
2. You can head to Coonoor town and have a south Indian breakfast at the designated restaurant (included in the tariff)
For lunch and dinner, there are many good eateries in and around Coonoor and a couple of them even home deliver food so you don't have to step out if you want to enjoy a hot meal in the comfort of the cottage.

One of the best hillside homestays I have ever been to and I know I am definitely going again!!!
We had a 2N incredible stay for our first year wedding Anniversary at Erin Villa! The Saits are such lovely hosts :) You wake up to chirping of birds and the lush tea estate around. They house a huge variety of flora and maintain it to the T. We had taken the room with the panoramic window and we couldn’t help but sit and stare leisurely the expanse of green outside! There is a private stream inside the property which is an incredibly beautiful place.
We loved our slow mornings, cooking our breakfast from the in-house breakfast platter provided by the hosts in the cozy kitchen overlooking the garden. It is a must visit if you looking for a hillside getaway far away from the hustle bustle of the city!!!

Erin Villa - A Gem of a Place
Nestled amongst tea gardens in Coonoor and in the lap of nature’s beauty is a beautiful haven for those who need a getaway for a few days. It’s Erin Villa – a homestay that is an oasis, away from the cacophony of city life. We were lucky to find it on YouTube, quite by chance.
Erin Villa is a lovely heritage cottage, about 150 years old. It can accommodate a maximum of 6 people but works for smaller numbers too – do visit their website for more details. With its beautiful flower gardens, bird life and spectacular views, this homestay is indeed balm for tired souls! You can wake to birdsong and a view of the rising sun (if you can rouse yourself by 6.15 am!), and can experience the day gently slipping into dusk and nightfall. The cottage has a private garden, perfect for morning breakfast or leisurely evening tea, with the crisp and fresh air thrown in as a bonus.
The Saits, who live in the bungalow alongside the cottage, are wonderful hosts – warm and welcoming. Mohammed and his wife Hiba are happy to do nature walks for guests and it was mind blowing for city hicks like my sisters and myself! Ooty is close by and you can drive across to enjoy all that it has to offer.
Do visit Erin Villa – it truly is a gem of a place.

Memorable experience and an unforgettable stay
We had an amazing stay at Erin Villa recently. The place is so peaceful and secluded surrounded by tea plantations. The guest cottage has its own well-maintained private garden which has a variety of plants and it was wonderful to wake up to the sounds of chirping birds every morning. The property also has a small stream and if you are lucky, you can also get to see some animals. The host Mohammad and his family were so warm and friendly and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Mohammad showed us around the property and shared some interesting facts about the plants and birds there. He also suggested some of the best places to visit in Coonoor.
We also had a bit of an adventure when a friend of ours got stuck on one of the roads near the property, and Mohammad and his dad came to the rescue. We will definitely visit again!

Beautiful stay in lush green surroundings
Erin Villa is one of our best homestay. The cottage is separate from the main house, so you enjoy your privacy with serene views but also don't feel secluded when you need help. The place is absolutely stunning with a stream and waterfall inside the property. The gardens are very well kept. We went with our parents and they loved the place. Thank you for making our stay memorable.

Peaceful and comfortable stay in beautiful surrounding
Erin's vila is an independent cottage towards the back of the same property where the owners stay. It has a master bedroom with view of the tea garden and another room with view of the in house garden. Both room are connected by the third room which is in between and without attached bathroom (suitable for young kids). The place is comfortable for 4 adults and 2 little kids. Since we were just the 2 of us we had enough space. There is also a drawing room, kitchen and small dining area. We cooked few meals in the kitchen and ordered in a few.
Overall the cottage is tastefully done up and I really felt too much at peace both indoors and outdoors. The house garden is beautiful. We spent many hours bird watching and clicking pics while sipping tea.
Breakfast was complimentary and the options were basic continental (bread, egg, corflakes, juice, milk, oil) or idli / poori ordered in.
I'd love to visit there again if with a bigger group. It proved slightly expensive for just a couple (even after discounted rates).
Overall a great stay with an amazing host!!

It's like heaven on earth!
I'm not exaggerating when I say that the place is like heaven on earth. Splendid garden and great interior design. I felt like an emperor lol. It has a great mountain view and the air was enjoyable. If you like nature, you can't miss this place. If you like quiet places away from the noises of worldly hustles, you can't miss this place. If you would like to enjoy some quality time immersed in the beauty of creation while reflecting on your own life energy, you can't miss this place. I can't wait to take my families and stay in Erin Villa again :)

It is an amazing place, Very close to nature. It has everything from chirping of birds to a small stream where you can wet your feet and read a good book or just trek the place, and if you are lucky enough a bison might just visit you (the area is fenced so you are totally safe).
This is a good Family friendly place beautiful & well kept taking care of all the basic needs like Geysers, Mineral water, iron stand, gas stove, etc. The rooms are comfortable and have a good view.

Nature at its best :)
My friends and I decided to spend a couple of day’s in Coonoor after a friends wedding and we decided to stay at Erin villa (since we really dint want to stay in a hotel), after reading few reviews and checking out few pictures online. And boy we weren’t disappointed. I must say pictures don’t do justice to this place at all. We fell in love with the property from the time we reached. The amazing views into the tea gardens, the cozy bedrooms and the lush green gardens in the property are total bliss. Its a perfect place to relax and unwind that you hardly feel like stepping out.The owner Mohammed was a wonderful host who took time out to give us a great tour around the property and the nearby tea estates. It has an unbelievable range of flora and fauna and you have to see it to believe it!
The villa is perfect for a group of 4-6, with good options around who can deliver food to you and a good kitchen where you can do some basic cooking/heating if needed!
If you’re looking to reconnect with nature, leaving behind the hustle and bustle of city life and experience Mother Nature at its best then Erin villa is the place to be! :)

Our property is situated on a private road so a good amount of privacy can be enjoyed. The road only has 3-4 other properties that are spaced at a good distance apart from each other and it ends at the Singara tea factory. The same views that one can see from Lambs rock or Dolphins nose can be seen from our property and a clearer panoramic view can be seen if you take a 10 minute walk down the road.
The nearest good restaurant is 600 meters away and other shops and provision stores can be found within 2 kms or a 5-10 minutes drive towards town. If you don't feel like going out then there are also restaurants nearby that home deliver food.
Getting around
Having your own car is the best option but you could also rent a taxi for the day. Charges range from $30-$60 depending on the distance and duration. It's best to work out a deal before you start your journey.

How to get there
The nearest Airport is 90km away (Coimbatore). From there, you could rent a car (rented cars have to be dropped back) or hire a taxi to Coonoor (Taxis charge roughly $30/- or Rs.2,000 for a hatchback or sedan). I can help with getting a taxi from or to the airport so feel free to ask.
The best way to get here if you're travelling from Bangalore, Coimbatore or other relatively nearby cities is to drive. The roads are good, views are pretty nice and it gives you a whole lot more flexibility and independence.
There are also air-conditioned buses that you could take.
Activities nearby
Golf course (within 30 mins drive)
