There is a janitor who cleans the premises every morning, and a laundry service (Rs. 85/kilo). Coffee and tea are provided. There is no maid or bellboy. Although the owner is always just a phone call away and there is a caretaker onsite, the house is ideal for guests who enjoy living independently. There are several options for meal delivery and the area has many eateries that are open early and close late. The house is a minute away from Swami Vivekananda's residence on Cornwallis Street. It is a fifteen minute walk to the nearest metro station, Girish Park, from where South Kolkata is easily accessible. It is also close to the colonial heart of Kolkata - College Street, Esplanade, New Market etc. More

Interaction with guests
The host stays on a separate floor. There is a caretaker and a janitor who live on the premises. They are trusted employees who have been with the family for years. We have had many female guests who have stayed alone in complete safety. Gaurav, the owner, is available during normal hours by telephone and Whatsapp.

I wanted to live the old-Kolkata experience, hence chose Bhubanbari. Ideal for a solotraveller on a sojourn it did not disappoint me. Gaurabh was very helpful in answering all my queries prior to my visit and helped out with whatever I needed and whenever I needed it. The house itself is full of character. The beautiful murals, created by various artists, tall grilled windows draped with curtains made out of saris, wrought iron staircases, centre table made out of slatted window- all add to the unique fusion of old world charm and art. Food can be ordered from nearby great takeaways and I did opt for Bengali cuisine. There's a great tea-shack and samosa shop just round the corner and all basic amenities are within a minute's reach. The roof terrace provides the cool welcome breeze in the evenings if you want a couple of hours to unwind.

I stayed in Bhubanbari from 5 to 10 september 2020, being the first guest during all lockdown. I had the biggest room with big space, many windows-doors, for which i received a big discount. Toilet and wash room are separate. Everything is clean. What u will have: towel, bed linen, soap, sanitizer, all kitchen stuff (plates, cups, spoons, forks, knifs, refrigerator, microwave, electric tea pot, kitchen stove). My room came on a big terrasse full of flowers from one side, and from another - to the balcon. It is very cosy and quiet place. Nearby u can have very tasty tea and sweets. It is old part of Kolkata from wich u can walk, for example, to mosque Nakhoda (25 min) and enjoy the beauty of old bengoli houses. The owner of this House, Gourav ji, was very kind and helped me in many things like booking my back tickets, suggesting bengali food and best restaurants, sweets shop, places for sightseeing. This House has special atmosphere full of piece, calm and harmony, and at the same time reflecting the character of Kolkata city, with its histoty, culture, art and free thinking.

Bhubanbari popped up on my Airbnb suggestions when I was hunting for a heritage home to stay in, in North Calcutta. The pictures on the website looked gorgeous, and I was immediately sold! But the aesthetics and the decor of the place is only the beginning of the kind of experience one can expect at Bhubanbari! Gaurav, my host, was most descriptive of the neighborhood and things of interest that I might want to see around. Even before I could land at his house, he spoke to me over the telephone and explained to me the history of the locality, places to eat, the heritage buildings around, etc! Since the purpose of our visit was to document North Calcutta's history, Bhubanbari and Gaurav at were the best things that happened to us! During my stay, I even met Gaurav's sister Shiuli, who was shooting a series on the balcony of the building. She apologized a million times to us thinking she was causing trouble, and that's the kind of hospitality that any boarder ever looks for really! The caretaker of the house was always ready to help, and even sat with us for a cup of tea and chit-chatted with us! Overall, our experience at Bhubanbari was something that I recommend every visitor to calcutta must have atleast once! I cant wait to go back!

Thanks so much for the review! Bhubanbari and you are one in spirit, and we'd love to have you back. Come and enjoy Durga Pujo - we have our own full-scale family Pujo on the ground floor with the entire extended family and you can be in the middle of it all!
