BHUBANBARI: this 200-year old heritage home with a courtyard and a Durga Temple (Dalan) in the heart of North Kolkata, welcomes travelers from around the globe. Taxi/ Uber: Sunflower Nursing Home in Manicktala.
Renovated and designed by a film maker, the photogenic interiors blend bohemian exuberance with new age spirituality and the cultural symbols of Bengal. Durga Puja by the extended family can be observed in the Dalan. The airy terraces of this home are a unique feature rarely found in Kolkata homes.
It is possible to book the entire house for family gatherings, reunions, weddings etc. Individual rooms can be booked as well. On the second floor: The Queen and King bedrooms are air conditioned, while the other two rooms do not have air conditioning. The Queen room has an attached bat...

Please be considerate towards other guests and staff. No parties. Quiet time between 10pm and 6am. Please tidy up after yourself when using common areas. We do not have a maid or domestic help. There is a janitor who cleans the bathrooms and common areas every morning. There is a laundry service that charges Rupees 85 per kilo ($1.10). There are several meal services available. You may smoke in open areas as long as other people are not bothered by the smoke.

House of Stories
If you are looking for a home away from home, in Kolkata, you've come to the right place. Tucked away in the press of humanity that is Goabagan, this house is simple, comfortable, and comforting. The owner, Gaurab, is helpful beyond measure and always ready with a story, retold on his rooftop, under the open sky, with an unending pot of coffee. The rooftop is also the home for live music (I was lucky to have been there when a brilliant Iranian nomad musician and artist was cohabiting the place). I came for two nights, i stayed for four extra :) It is that kind of place. Rooms are large, spare but comfortable, the windows adorned with beautiful crowd-sourced sarees.
You will not be waited on hand and foot, and there is no room service. There is no elevator, so you will have to carry your bags up 3-4 flights of stairs. So come here if you are ok with that and are game making yourself a cuppa, or running down the street to grab a bite. Come here if you like stories and old places, living simply, walking and lounging and mingling with your house-mates. Bhubanbari is more a home than a hotel, and Gaurab and Nandini will send you away heart-happy. I will surely be coming back here. Thank you, guys!

Magical reflection of Kolkata
Wow! I could not have picked a better place to stay in Kolkata. Great location, such a cosy and inspiring interior and, most of all, wonderful hospitality from Gaurab. I could not have felt more welcomed and have made a friend in the process.
The place feels very safe, yet connected to the rest of the city. An night one can relax in the rooftop kitchen by fairy light and listen to the music and noises of Kolkata. By day, it is very close to walk to the tram for connections or onto main streets for local amenities. Great food nearby also! Myself, I enjoyed getting a dosa from just below and round the corner, delicious.
Thank you for my stay, I will certainly be visiting again :)

Casa tradicional en el corazón de Calcuta
Nuestra experiencia en Bubhan Bari fue muy agradable. Estuvimos durante 2 meses. Es una casa tradicional recién restaurada y decorada con gusto exquisito. Esta en un barrio no turistificado, con mercados, la universidad, el Indian Café y con la parada de metro de Girish Park muy cerca. Muy limpia. Habitaciones amplias. El dueño es fantástico. Un lugar al que volver y que pedimos que se siga conservando y cuidando.

wonderful place
I had a very pleasant time at Bhubambari. I liked the magic atmosphere and the sense of being home, that is very important while you travel. The kitchen on the veranda is cozy, very welcoming, full of plants. Gaurab, the owner, is always there to help you with informations, suggestions and very interesting conversations about Indian culture. It was my best experience in India and I am looking forward to be back. Thank you Bhubambari!!

Delightful Break
We rented BhubanBari for two days for a get together for our family. We loved the space. Gaurab, the owner, who is a film maker in Tollygunj, met us and showed us the rooms and bathrooms. Everything was very clean. The artwork on the walls is spectacular, and the house itself is an old mansion from the 1900s. The decor is all from that period and I believe Gaurab found all the furniture from antique dealers - everything looks vintage and beautiful, but it looks like a home, not a hotel. We loved the kachuri and jilipi in the morning from Nandi Sweets, and the Chinese food from Capri was yummy for the price - home delivery too! Sukumar, the cleaning person, was also super helpful (for a small fee) and made our stay really comfortable. The terrace is the best place in the house - green and pretty - a wonderful place for staying up late and chatting :-) I heartily recommend this place, and Gaurab, the owner, is a fabulous host.

You will be living in the heart of traditional North Kolkata with the best mishti and kachuri (sweets and snacks) shops in Kolkata a few steps away. The neighborhood is residential, but there are also eateries all around. Ordering food is easy as is getting to shopping areas like New Market, Gariahat and Park Street. Most homes and families have been here for more than a hundred years.
