Renovated and designed by a film maker, the photogenic interiors blend bohemian exuberance with new age spirituality and the cultural symbols of Bengal. Durga Puja by the extended family can be observed in the Dalan. The airy terraces of this home are a unique feature rarely found in Kolkata homes.

Wonderful house
Thank you for the great stay. Beautiful house situated in a great neighborhood of Calcutta. Super secured and clean, the house is very unique with a lot of charm. Can't wait to be back.

A charming and comfortable place to stay
I had seen listings for heritage homes in Kolkata so I was curious to stay in one. For $20 a night (for a non aircon room) this place can't be beat. It's basically a guest house with four rooms and three bathrooms and a common kitchen/lounge. There's no maid/room service but there is a cleaner/caretaker. The rooms are large and decorated with antique furniture. As a single woman traveler, I loved that there were three locked doors between me and the street. The helpers who live on the property are like family, so I didn't feel unsafe at all. You can cook/heat your own meals, mix with other guests or not as you wish, come and go at will. The terrace and balcony are lovely and filled with plants. My bed was comfy. I left the windows open and got a great breeze at night. There's no traffic noise. There are also great places to eat real Bengali kachuri and mishti around the corner, so I was a happy camper. I took the Metro into South Kolkata and took an Uber to come and go from the airport. Gaurab was in touch the whole time and told me how to find the place (which can be a bit tricky in these old neighborhoods). Basically tell the cab to take you to Sunflower Nursing Home in Manicktala. I heartily recommend it if you don't want either the socializing of a bnb or the impersonality of a hotel, but just your own comfortable space.

About the neighbourhood
You will be living in the heart of traditional North Kolkata with the best mishti and kachuri (sweets and snacks) shops in Kolkata a few steps away. The neighborhood is residential, but there are also eateries all around. Ordering food is easy as is getting to shopping areas like New Market, Gariahat and Park Street. Most homes and families have been here for more than a hundred years.

The house is a minute away from Swami Vivekananda's residence on Cornwallis Street. It is a fifteen minute walk to the nearest metro station, Girish Park, from where South Kolkata is easily accessible. It is also close to the colonial heart of Kolkata - College Street, Esplanade, New Market etc. Uber is also easily available.

The best way to get here from Howrah station or the airport is to take a taxi or an Uber. The landmark is Sunflower Nursing Home in Manicktala. We are well known in the neighborhood and anyone can point out the house.
