A picture is worth a thousand words, so please be sure to check them out. 'Barefoot elegance at its finest!' One reviewer wrote: 'What first struck us both about the Belladonna was the garden. It reflects a lot of the spirit of Eureka Springs: finding beauty where you least suspect it; the unusual next to the usual; and all about the whimsy with the historical. Perhaps the theme on this trip has been finding the secret beauty – noticing the details among the larger picture. We started with this garden. The artwork in the garden and house is from the eclectic style of Julie Traxx, the previous owner of the house. Part kitsche, with art from found objects, look to find a tower structure boasting an array of used toothbrushes; a chair made of car parts, and a circle of bowling balls with nine-pins at the center. Even if you don’t necessarily like ‘modern’ art, the Belladonna comes across as peaceful, not frenetic, as it is done with restraint. Later as dusk settled in we noticed how the garden lights along the path looked so much like toadstools, and the gentle glow of them guided us back into the house. We stayed in the bottom part of the house, the Garden Suite, which you access through the garden. The pallet of the garden suite uses very strong colors – the walls are a rich deep green, with accents of red rugs and cushions. All of this rich color is further displayed with the modern artwork throughout the suite – such as the paintings over the bed and in the bathroom. Where this intense color could have gotten out of control, it wraps you up instead, making the Suite intimate and cosy. The bed and the curtains are white, some of the trim is white, the chairs are mostly cream and green with some red, and the large windows and sliding doors makes it all feel very relaxing and airy. On the practical side, the bed is extremely comfortable as well as the pillows. The cleanliness of the Belladonna is phenomenal – the sheets are soft and smell delicious, the towels are bright and smell fresh as if just laundered, the kitchen is well stocked, the furniture comfortable to sit upon, and the outdoor Jacuzzi easily holds two as you gaze down into your private valley (no one is behind this property for two valleys so your privacy out the back is assured). The stereo has awesome sound and a collection of good listening music if you forgot your own. This suite has an indoor private tub area or you can use the outdoor jacuzzi. Personally, I found this time of the year a bit too brisk for outdoor bathing but hubby loved it and couldn’t get himself out. The upper suite has an indoor jacuzzi that I would choose if you want to splash in cooler seasons. The porch was sheltered by the top level’s deck, and during one of the rainy evenings, we heard magical, musical chimes. This was being produced by rain coming down and under an old cistern, now covered by a rock slab and a Buddha. What really impressed us both about the Belladonna was the obvious thought that had gone into it’s design and decoration. Talking to innkeeper, Patricia Corcilli, it took her some time to build and design her friend, Julie’s house into the accomodation that she wanted. That meticulious planning is evident in the comfort you will find. The Belladonna speaks of the whimsy, the offbeat but also the subtlety that we feel is the heart of the Eureka Springs Spirit. 'More
