“A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving”. - Lao Tzu We are Marteinn Thorsson, a filmmaker, and Gudrún Eva Minervudottir, a novelist. We have a 5 year old daughter, Minerva, and a cat, Gudbrandur. Being artists can be an economically tricky affair at best and since we have a nice, big backyard, we decided to turn a part of it into a residence so we could have a bit of an extra income, thus enabling us to work on our art at the same time. We want to create an intimate and an inspiring place of rest where people can take their time and, in effect, be our neighbours for a day or two, or three. We want to encourage you to stay for more than one night and take it easy. We want to think of our backyard as a place of rest and reflection. It can be tempting to rush through the many beautiful sights Iceland has to offer but we believe the best way to experience our beautiful country is to take a bit of time to just “be” and notice the little things: The smells in the air, the ever-changing light, the continually changing shapes of geothermal steam rising from the ground, the rain or snow on the window, the sound of the wind, the absence of stress. CABINS Both cabins are 36 sqm, with a bedroom, bathroom and a living area with a kitchen. The kitchen has a fully functioning stove, a fridge, coffee maker, a kettle, etc. The living area has a pullout sofa bed. Both cabins have an entrance doorway as well as a door that opens into our backyard. There are windows on every side as well as a skylight in the living area. 2 yoga mats are provided for each cabin. There’s free, high-speed, Wi-Fi and Internet Radio, but we don’t have TV’s at this point. The cabins have a king-size (160cm) bed and a bunk bed above it (90cm). Perfect for a family travelling with children. Two small children can sleep in the bunk. And there’s additional room on the sofa bed. A cot is available for infants. This cabin can accommodate up to 5 persons (it’s possible to squeeze in one more if they’re little ones). A WOOD FIRED SAUNA is on the premises. The sauna is a good place to unwind and warm up the body and tired muscles (after a long hike, for instance). It takes about 20 minutes to warm up the sauna. Firewood is in a box beside the sauna. Take your time and enjoy. A HOT TUB is also provided for. It’s another great way to unwind and reflect and perfect for those who can’t tolerate the heat of the sauna. There’s also the OUTDOOR SHOWER (affixed to the Laundry Cabin). It’s invigorating to take an ice-cold shower between sauna sessions. THE LAUNDRY CABIN has a washer and a dryer. There’s also storage for outdoor clothes as well as extra linens, towels, soaps, etc. A chair and a small table is by our favourite window, where you can fold laundry, do some writing or just look and reflect or meditate while you wait for the dryer to finish or someone comes knocking. We also have a TRAMPOLINE (a favourite of Minerva and her friends). So. If you want to rush through, then our place might not be for you but if you want to rest, relax, do some hiking, cook your own meal, fire up the sauna, meditate, make art, and get to know a bit of the life in a small Icelandic town, maybe you can be our neighbours. We’ll be happy to be yours. Tourist License / Licencia de turismo N °: 4204141530More

We don't mind parties as long as they don't disturb the peace of other guests (or ours). Be careful with the sauna (if you have a heart condition or respiratory problems, please don't use it), children shouldn't light the sauna oven and they shouldn't use the sauna without adult supervision. The same goes for the hot tub. In winter and when it's rainy, the patio and boardwalk can be slippery. Please show caution.

About the neighbourhood
Hveragerdi has a population of 2400 people (or so) and is either called 'The Hot Spring Capital' of the world or 'The Flower Town'. There are two public swimming pools (Laugaskard and the Health and Rehabilitation Spa Pool), a local brewery and gourmet pizza place (Ölverk), fine dining (Varma Restaurant and Hver) and a hipster restaurant (Skyrgerdin). We have a shopping centre (Sunnumörk) with a supermarket, post office, drugstore, tourist info, Earthquake exhibit, bakery and café and the bank. Excellent hiking trails and the warm, geothermal river which is great to take a dip in. Oh, and the clothing store (Álnavörubúdin) if you need extra boots or warm clothing/rain gear.
Getting around
It's easy to walk to most places but for excursions to The Golden Circle, Vík, waterfalls and all of south Iceland it's best to use a car.
