Our home, originally built in the 1700's was renovated in 2000. The house is rustic, clean and comfortable. With big picture windows, a tv, dvd player, towels, sheets, soaps, cooking pots and pans.
Located in a medieval village near Chaves, you will drive past all progress and into a time capsule from 100 years ago. The locals are farmers. You will hear the tractors and horses and donkeys pass early in the morning.
The very best parts of this experience are the winding streets, the local color of the village, the ancient walls, the quiet of the country side, a beautiful step away from all of the stresses in life.

Interaction with guests
My family owns and runs a rural tourism farm 2kms away from our house. You will pick up the key from our farm and will follow us to Casa da Eira. We will help you get installed in the house and will point out several interesting amenities in our village of Sao Lourenco. You will always be welcomed to visit our farm, and when we do not have events, you will be invited to use the pool.

The modest little home is truly a step back in time. The house is set within a charming, medieval working village. As an American, it felt as if I was in a movie or at Disney World. The home is comfortable but not luxurious. You have all you need in the house for a comfortable stay. Studio kitchen had the basics. The house is connected with a nearby Bed and Breakfast and I was able to visit the pool there during the day - which was a wonderful bonus. If you are looking to get away from commercial lodging, this is a perfect place.... I loved just sitting on the front porch and watching the everyday pace of this very old place.

About the neighbourhood
Mountainous area in which communities still grow a lot of their food and also enjoy connectivity and modern amenities thanks to vibrant small towns and very modern highways systems. Rooted communities, traditional cultures, rural landscapes, historic heritage, and modern amenities.
Getting around
Our house is a nice and scenic 5km drive from Chaves. There is a very nice overlook to the Chaves valley just at the entrance to our village from which you can see the Tamega River valley with Chaves in front, and the border with Spain to to the Northeast.
Sao Lourenco is a quaint village satelite to the small town of Chaves. From our house guests have easy access to Chaves, but also are connected with regional highways to do self drives to wine and olive regions in Valpacos, Braganca, the Douro region, etc. The house is also an easy drive to the border with Spain, and it is also 15 mins from the major tool road, A24, that connects guests with Porto (1.5hrs), Lisbon (4.5hrs), and Madrid (4hrs).

On the day of check-in, you will need to meet us in our family farm - Quinta da Mata (41.718225, -7.436502). Our house is in the medieval village of Sao Lourenco, just a 2km drive up the road. Once you are installed in our house, you will be conveniently located to access the small town of Chaves (20min drive on EN 213), and also close to many interesting mountain villages, the Alto Douro wine region, and national parks. We are also next to the northern border with Galicia - and all its cultural and natural attractions.
