Amazing getaway in the Suffolk countryside
I can’t rate this place highly enough. It’s situated in a lovely village in the Suffolk countryside yet is close to Bury St Edmunds for amenities. The house itself is delightful, it’s extremely spacious and well equipped. It has a lovely homely feel and would make anyone feel at home in no time. If you’re looking for a place to get away from everything, look no further!

Very peaceful accommodation close to beautiful Bury.
Situated almost adjacent to the National Trust property of Ickworth House, and very close to the town of Bury St Edmunds with its abbey ruins and colourful gardens, with a good variety of good shops and great pubs and eateries, the accommodation is in very quiet and extensive gardens belonging to the owners. Spacious for two persons with a great bathroom, two lounges and a comfortable bed for a good nights sleep. The friendly and helpful owners, Angie and Mike (and three adorable cocker spaniels) are close by should you need any help or advice. All in all a perfect and relaxing place to stay.

An ideal place to stay in the Suffolk countryside.
The Cart Lodge has everything you could want for a stay near Bury St Edmunds. Situated at the bottom of Manor Lane in Horringer it is very quiet and peaceful. There is plenty of everything to make your stay comfortable and the kitchen, although compact, has all the gadgets including a washer/dryer. Just a note if anyone has limited mobility, the main area is upstairs and has 9 fairly steep steps to get to, the second lounge/bedroom and very spacious bathroom and a second separate toilet is downstairs and has 6 steep steps from the main floor to negotiate, not a problem for us but maybe for some. The Cart Lodge is located in the owners grounds and overlooks the 2 acre garden, full of beautiful daffodils this time of the year, birds are everywhere, tapping on the windows throughout the day. Even though our stay was over Easter, it wasn’t the best weather but the central heating keeps the Lodge very warm and cozy, the downstairs has underfloor heating keeping the bathroom really warm, lovely in the mornings. The owner Angie was suffering from a skiing injury during our stay so we didn’t really see much of her, but her husband helped us with anything if needed. Summary, we loved it.

What a gem
Photo's do not do this justice, was surprisingly spacious accomodation and Angie was fantastic showing us round, had even put milk in the fridge along with tea/coffee. Hope to stay again soon as we have family nearby and means we don't have to impose on them to put us up.

Hidden little gem in Horringer, a great place to stay for visiting Ickworth House
I'm always a little skeptical when booking places without reviews such as The Cart Lodge but we were keen to find somewhere in Horringer so we could be on hand to help out with prep the day before/morning of the wedding we were attending at nearby Ickworth House. At the very worst we planned to just use it as a base so if the accommodation wasn't amazing, we didn't have to spend a lot of time there. Needless to say we were very impressed when Angie showed us round; the pictures and description do not do it enough justice. The Cart lodge is such a lovely place to stay, with its beautiful exposed beams, cosy cottage feel and excellent location. The lodge is like a rabbit warren; on entering there is a welcoming little entrance hall leading into open plan living area, with a double bedroom and a shower/toilet room coming off it. Going through to the back of the lodge, there is another door leading to another sitting room/double bedroom, with a double (albeit small and low) loft bedroom - perfect for children (but quite rightly not recommended for little ones under 5). From the sitting room there is a beautiful bathroom with walk in shower and separate bath, and also another seperate toilet next door to it. Angie very kindly popped the underfloor heating on in this area prior to our arrival as she knew we had our 5 year old with us. The layout of the lodge was absolutely perfect for us; we slept in the sitting room area with our son using the attic room whilst our jet lagged friends who had flown in from the USA for the wedding we're able to rest in peace in the main bedroom. From first point of enquiry right through to us leaving Angie was on hand at all times and has been so accommodating. Angie's attention to detail throughout the lodge definitely did not go unnoticed - the kitchen was very well stocked, enough so for us to cook a full roast dinner, complete with cleaning products, dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid. She had gone to the trouble of providing tea, coffee, sugar, milk and individual boxes of cereal which was a hit with the smallest member of our party! In the bathroom little toiletries had been provided which was a lovely little touch. The beautiful National Trust property, Ickworth House, is a stonesthrow away from the lodge; around a 2 minute drive away and within walking distance for those who don't mind a short hike. Bury St Edmunds is about a 5-10 minute drive away with lots of supermarkets and shops should you need them. All in all we have had a very comfortable stay at Cart Lodge, making a very long but happy weekend even more enjoyable. Thank you Angie, your beautiful Lodge comes with a high recommendation from us.

About the neighbourhood
We are very lucky to have the National Trust property of Ickworth House in the village. This can be reached by a 20 minute walk from the Cart Lodge. They have a cafe and a shop along with lots of lovely walks. There is a hotel in part of the stately home, The Ickworth, which has a restaurant for any special occasion. Booking is highly recommended as it gets booked up in advance. We also have two public houses, The Beehive and the Six Bells. The historic town of Bury St Edmunds is a short drive away, where most facilities can be found - banks, pharmacies and a shopping centre. The town has a traditional market on Wednesdays & Saturdays. The Abbey gardens are very special and well kept. The Theatre Royal is another gem along with The Apex.
Getting around
Sadly, we are not served by a frequent bus service. The nearest bus station is in Bury St Edmunds about 3 miles away, as is the train station.
