Just the right place!
When I contacted my host, Caroline, I was looking for a place to stay for several weeks. Having lived in Suffolk for years I was not on holiday, nor was I a tourist. This tucked away cottage situated in the grounds of the hosts' property felt safe with all the facilities I required: it is modern, well equipped, clean and extremely comfortable. The parking area is a short way from the cottage near the owners's paddocks The proximity of Ickworth Park and its many walks enhanced my stay. The Old Piggery is an excellent base to discover the area including the special town of Bury St Edmunds. After my six weeks spent at the cottage I would like to thank Caroline and Phil for being so friendly and helpful, and also, for making me feel relaxed. The perfect hosts!

Wonderful, cosy Christmas retreat
We had an absolutely perfect stay at the Piggery over Christmas - right next to Ickworth House which made our Boxer Dog very happy! Beautifully finished, immaculately clean and Caroline is a wonderful host. Would 100% recommend and book again.

Dirty accommodation with No privacy
Never ever had such a disappointing experience , the adjacent property looks into the listing . No outside space for quiet or privacy. The listing is not a 5 star listing , perhaps it is for inspection or special visitors . This listing should consider its standards .

Every guest is special to us. We were saddened to see such a negative review of our cottage. Sadly the guest didn't report any issues until after their stay. Had there been any problem reported, we would have immediately rectified this. We feel perhaps the guest had not read or looked at the photographs carefully enough to establish the location of the property to the owners. We hope this review will not put you off booking, please take a look at other reviews.

A fabulous work from home & retreat in the perfect setting.
We recently rented the cottage for 3 weeks near Ickworth, Bury St Edmunds. We loved the Old Piggery with Caroline as our host. Her communication, driections and promptness was excellent and all queries were quickly answered. We needed good wifi as we were waiting to move into our home and were delighted with the good speed and easy access. The cottage is cosy and the space in each room far exceeded our expectations. Caroline helped us by adding a pop up desk in the bedroom to create a second work space. The lounge was spacious with room for both lounging and working with a great extendable table. The kitchen was very well equipped and bathroom was of a very high standard - we really appreciated all the extra touches like welcome champagne, nice soaps and gorgeous fluffy towels. Parking is very near by and the cottage is on the doorstep of the wonderful Ickworth estate and Bury St Edmunds historic town - full of restaurants and coffee shops. Very happy to heartily recommend the Old Piggery as both the perfect holiday destination or a home from home.

Excellent standard of accommodation
I booked the Old Piggery for a break with my miniature Schnauzer - Dexter - while my partner was on a golf trip. The accommodation was spotlessly clean, well furnished, had all the equipment needed for a visit. The bedlinen was high quality as was the thick towels in the beautiful bathroom. This place is yards from the entrance to Ickworth grounds and house. Great for walking with the dog as there are fields and woods to explore. The trolley provided to bring my luggage etc to the cottage was very useful. It isn't far from where the car was parked but I would have had to make a few trips if I had tried to carry everything. The weather was gorgeous, actually a bit too hot for walking with Dexter so we went out morning and evening. I would have liked a chair for the garden but in truth I felt too conspicuous to sit out there as the owner's property with a large patio style window fronts onto the garden. The small patio outside the front door of the cottage was a good place to sit as it got both sun and then later on some shade. The one negative for me was the broken gate at the front of the property. The entrance fronts a very busy road with a junction and it meant the garden & path were not secure for the dog. I put the trolley across the path to block his way out and that seemed to work. I really enjoyed my stay it was a few days of just doing my own thing without any worries. I walked, read and rested.

Quiet enclave close to Ickworth
Beautiful accommodation. All you need for a couple. Very high tech cooking equipment. We felt guilty bringing in a M and S dinner.

About the neighbourhood
The Old Piggery is located in one of the prettiest villages in Suffolk. Famous for being an Estate Village, which was once owned by the Hervey family who lived in Ickworth House, which is now owned by the National Trust. The village is just 2 miles from the Historic Market Town of Bury St Edmunds. Horringer is home to Ickworth House, home of the historic and eccentric Hervey (pronounced Harvey) family. Set in 1,500 acres of grounds, which seem to go on forever, the house is a giant rotunda full of famous paintings and has been under the care of the National Trust since 1956. The family are also associated with Harvey's Bristol Cream sherry, and it was the 4th Earl of Bristol who created Ickworth in 1795. Latter-day celebrities in the family include model and socialite Lady Victoria Hervey. It was once said, 'When God created the human race, he made men, women and Herveys'. As well as works by the likes of Gainsborough (a local lad), Titian and Velasquez, the house boasts Georgian silver and Regency furniture. If you want to walk the grounds as well, Ickworth becomes a day-long Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk is a unique and dazzling historic gem. An important market town with a richly fascinating heritage, the striking combination of medieval architecture, elegant Georgian squares and glorious Cathedral and Abbey gardens provide a distinctive visual charm. With prestigious shopping, an award-winning market, plus variety of attractions and places to stay, Bury St Edmunds is under two hours from London and very convenient for Cambridge.
