The Cathair Dhubh Estate is tucked into the rugged Sutherland coastline on the NC500 between the villages of Lochinver and Clachtoll. Nestling in the heart of the spectacular Assynt countryside, it is a haven for wildlife lovers, hikers, fishermen, photographers and outdoor enthusiasts, not to mention those families looking for white, sandy beaches and crystal blue waters. Cathair Dhubh estate contains 5 lovely self catering cottages and Heather Cottage is the largest amongst them. The views are simply amazing! Bring your binoculars and you could be watching whales, basking sharks, porpoises and dolphins all from your window! We do have Wifi, but in the spirit of getting away from it all, it is quite basic and at times, elusive! There are patio doors leading to outside seating where you can experience the breathtaking views.More

Amazing location with brilliant views, great local walks and deer Close to the cottage. Big room downstairs with very well equipped kitchen and plenty of quality crockery and cutlery. Big bedrooms but beds could have been more comfortable, they were too hard and we could hear the springs in the double every time we turned over. Great location for exploring the area, we needed 2 weeks to do it justice. Although there are 4 other cottages in the complex it was very quiet. Recommend.

Just home from a fab week in Heather Cottage. Close to Lochinver but at the same time feels totally remote and utterly peaceful. Fantastic views over Assynt and cosy and comfy inside, perfect to curl up with a hot chocolate and watch the sunset through the window. There are hundreds of amazing walks in Assynt - you are spoiled for choice! Also great for other outdoor activities such as kayaking, SUP and canoeing. There is parking onsite and beaches are within walking distance - our two dogs loved it! I also saw deer grazing along the edge of the drive when passing through at dawn or dusk. All in all everything you need to an amazing stay - we would definitely come back!
