Overview
Cabin -
1 Bedroom , 1 Bathroom , Sleeps 12
Gasquet, California
A decahexagon (16 sided) open floor plan, earth sheltered, living roof, post and beam, log-and-tile off-grid mansion way out in the woods with spring-fed water and with many 'unfinished' details. Surrounded by wilderness. Great for self-reliant, experienced adventurers and especially larger groups (we've had 16 people inhabit he Lodge). It's a little much for a single or for a couple, although couples DO still regularly rent it.

NOTE:
It's RUSTIC. We have unfinished projects, pretty much all the time, the gardens and orchards are WILD

This location is very beautiful and quite remote and is best suited for adventurous souls who are ready to brave the elements and have a bit of a pioneer-style living experience. Please be sure you've read through the full description and ask any necessary questions to make sure...

Interaction with guests
e give our guests space. Usually out working, doing stuff(I have a job in town as a doctor of chiropractic), so I (Dan) don't often sit and chat, but our interns are usually available to talk with and show you around. Other than that, it's easy and you can just make yourself at home, informally. Please come down to lower village if you have needs You can actually text us, but we don't check the phone incessantly, like city folk do. Best to come down if you need extra towels, have encountered a bear, etc

About the neighbourhood
Our 160-acre property is surrounded by about a million acres of National Forest. Our neighborhood is all made of trees, huckleberry bushes and animals. We love it here. It is very remote, peaceful, and functionally sustainable in its focus. The closest neighbor is a Buddhist Hermitage about a mile up the forestry road. Also, supposedly, Sasquatch live here! (it is the epicenter for documented sightings) Most visitors to the area are interested in spending time in the redwoods – we are about 30-45 minutes from the nearest entrance to Jedediah Smith Park, home of Stout Grove and other beautiful redwood hikes. Driving into Crescent City, about 45-60 minutes, winds you right through the 'gentle giants' on your way to or from Redwoods
Getting around
•Remote location, gravel forestry roads: We are about 45 minutes from the nearest grocery store, and about 3.5 miles from Redwood Hwy. It is preferable to arrive during daylight hours since you'll be driving up a dirt road through the woods, crossing a creek either by small bridge or fording, and arriving on a property with limited electricity and steep terrain. The roads are unlit, bumpy, windy, and sometimes steep. Please bring a flashlight if you need to arrive after dark. We occasionally get a bit of snow in winter; please check the forecast and plan accordingly. You do NOT need 4WD to access the village; But to get to the Lodge (the top of our mountain) you need 4WD
How to get there
•Remote location: We are at least 45 minutes from the nearest grocery store, and about 3.5 miles up a windy, sometimes bumpy, unpaved forestry road. It is preferable to arrive during daylight hours since you'll be driving up a dirt road through the woods, crossing a creek either by small bridge or fording, and arriving on a property with limited electricity and steep terrain. •Steep terrain: The last 1/3 mile of the driveway up to Chrysanthemum Lodge is very steep and best suited for 4WD or All-Wheel drive vehicles. Alternatively, you can park in the lower village and walk up, or if the truck is available we are happy to offer shuttle service. There are plenty trails to hike, a swimming hole, and garden benches and porch
