Chase Cottage sits in a beautiful, unspoiled corner of the English Lake District National Park. Originally a barn, the cottage has been refurbished to create a comfortable, modern home-from-home, with everything you need for a relaxing enjoyable stay. There are lovely walks from the door around the peaceful Winster Valley, but the Lakeland Fells are not far away for the more adventurous. Interaction with guestsWe live around a 2 hour drive away from the cottage. Keys are collected from a key safe at the cottage, for which we give you a code once the full holiday balance is paid. Whilst not on hand on a day to day basis, obviously we are available if you have any issues during your stay (we also have friends who live locally or can arrange local trades). We are also happy to suggest things to do and the cottage has numerous books of walks, local information and maps. We can also investigate e.g. riding, canoeing etc. and pass on details.

I had been intending to write a review after a stay with my husband late November. However we found ourselves staying again this weekend at very short notice and we were so grateful to the lovely owners. We had booked in the Masons arms for 1 night with our daughters and they had to cancel due to frozen water pipes. We were nearly there (after battling the snow) when I called Wendy and asked if she could accommodate us. Nothing was too much trouble and the fabulous housekeeper had clean bedding to us and the heating on within an hour! The cottage was one of the best we have stayed in. HOUSE AND GROUNDS - The Position of the cottage is fabulous and one of its best assets. It is walkable to two of the best pubs in the Lake District. It is well maintained and exceptionally clean. BEDROOMS - The beds were so comfortable, views lovely from both windows. LIVING ROOM - Comfy and cosy very homely and two nice sofas. KITCHEN - The kitchen was so well equipped with quality glass and tableware. Often in cottages, they do not provide enough of each item. This cottage is well equipped and everything I had forgotten was available (for example kitchen foil and fairy liquid). HOST - The host Wendy was attentive and accommodating. She responded quickly. CLEANING - The cottage was spotless. I am very fussy about cottages being clean, however, the cottage was left so clean by the lovely housekeeper. IN SUMMARY - The cottage felt like a home. I always prefer a privately owned cottage to a cottage company as they have higher quality fittings and little home from home touches. We were so happy with the cottage we are hoping for a more trips next year. After leaving such a positive review, I hope there will still be availability!

Hugh and Wendy were fantastic hosts and have a lovely cottage. It is well equipped and in a great location. The cottage was very spacious, with offroad parking and is a very short drive from Lake Windermere. We would highly recommend stopping here.

This was the fourth time we stayed in Chase Cottage. The cottage is very comfortable, has everything you need and is beautifully decorated. The owners take excellent care of the place and are very helpful. Big advantage is that there is an excellent pub practically next door which serves great food and you can make walks straight from the door in most beautiful surroundings. It is located in a peaceful area but also very convenient to explore the Lake District. We will certainly book Chase Cottage again whenever we visit the Lake District once more. Thank you Wendy and Hugh for having such a lovely cottage available for guests.

Stayed at Chase Cottage last November for 4 nights....it wasn't long enough. Returned for 7 nights....it still wasn't long enough!! This fabulous cottage has everything you could possibly need and more for a really relaxing and comfortable stay. Squeaky clean and well maintained. Beautiful location. Very helpful owners. Can't praise it enough. Wonder how long we can stay away this time!

Enjoyed everything about our stay at Chase Cottage. Very comfortable, ultra clean, cosy and extremely well equipped. Quality beds and bedding ensuring a great sleep. Everything you could possibly need....and then some! Peaceful hamlet location but so easy to get to Windermere, Ambleside, Kendal, Cartmel. Or indeed anywhere in the Lake District. Two characterful pub/restaurants close-by. Super friendly staff and great food. Booking process with Wendy and Hugh quick and easy...they are very helpful. Already planning next visit!

Chase cottage is immaculately clean and is very well equipped with everything you would need for self catering. We didn’t want for anything everything has been thought of for a stress free stay. The mattresses are of very good quality and so comfortable so had good nights sleep. It’s home from home staying at this cottage. The location of the cottage is very peaceful and tranquil in Bowland Bridge but only a 15 minute drive to Windermere for shops and activities. The pub next door has reopened now with new owners they were very welcoming, nice cosy relaxed atmosphere worth a visit. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Chase cottage, booking with Wendy and Hugh was very easy and efficient.

We spent a lovely peaceful week in this immaculate cottage. Everything from booking to the end of our stay was easy and communications and information from the owners were excellent. The photos do not do Chase cottage justice. It is a wonderful, comfortable base for a relaxing holiday in the peace and tranquility of Bowland Bridge but is also ideally placed for reaching livelier places in the Lakes. The cottage was the best equipped cottage we have ever stayed in and everything from kitchen equipment to relaxation ( good books, DVDs provided) was catered for. We can highly recommend this wonderful holiday cottage and look forward to returning to it in the future.

Had a great time staying at Chase cottage. Lovely home from home tastefully decorated and very clean with everything you need for a break away. Amazing surroundings and handy to have pubs offering food so close by! I would recommend a stay here and we will definitely be back.

Love this cottage. It’s roomy and well equipped. Beds are comfortable. Nice touches by the host. Dedicated parking which means a lot. Pub as a next door neighbour which was a plus. Didn’t notice any comings or goings as regards noise level from there. Close to Windermere and other places. Really enjoyed our time here. Highly recommend this beautiful cottage.

We live in Glasgow with my brother and sister in law in Liverpool . So Cumbria's (almost ) in the middle and a great place for us to meet up . Windermere's too hectic parking spaces are extremely scarce . Then we discovered Bowland Bridge We've stayed here several times over a few years and just love it . There's plenty of parking nearby with 2 spaces for exclusive use of the cottage . Two great food pubs well within strolling distance . One of them is in fact next door but one , The Hare and Hounds . Its busy but certainly not rowdy . All you can hear on a Summer's day is people chatting and enjoying a good meal . It adds to the country atmosphere . Just across the road are fields of sheep -bleating lambs when we were there . It's idyllic . And just down the hill about 10 minute drive (or taxi ride) you have the buzz of Windermere with its shops , pubs /restaurants and a great supermarket "Booths" near the railway station . What more could you ask ? It's beautiful in all weather . The owners are great to deal with -very friendly. We've given up on the big rental companies who charge hefty booking fees when after booking you deal directly with the owners . Gym membership's another favourite . One tried to sell me a comprehensive travel policy with £5m medical expenses ! With independent cottage owners you pay only for what you get. The prices for Chase Cottage are very fair and the cottage is well maintained and furnishings upgraded as regularly as necessary . On our last day here , I never want to leave.

About the neighbourhood
Bowland Bridge is set at the heart of the unspoiled Winster Valley in the south-east corner of the National Park. Although only 10 minutes drive away from the honeypots of Bowness and Windermere, the area is quiet and peaceful. The hills and valleys are punctuated by rocky outcrops and covered by woods and small forests where deer can often be seen. There are lovely walks from the cottage door. Alternatively, there is a maze of quiet lanes, ideal for cycling, and for watersports enthusiasts, Lake Windermere is just over the hill. There are numerous tourist attractions within a short drive. The area is famous for its food and pubs - the Hare & Hounds and Masons Arms are both within a short stroll. A slightly longer walk will take you to the renowned Brown Horse at Winster or the Pu...
