Perfect property for our family
This was a perfect property for our multi-generation family group with ages from 2 months to 67 years. Plenty of space indoors and out. We had good weather so the garden was perfect for games of cricket, but had it been cold or wet the two lounges make it perfect for playing games in one and watching tv in the other. The location is a bit remote, and the local roads are narrow, but it made each outing an adventure. No village shop, but there is a decent childrens play area. We visited beaches at West Bay (Bridport), Weymouth and the famous Chesil Beach which were all different but had their own attractions. The nearby village of Abbotsbury is worth a visit. Very pretty with Abbey ruins. We visited the sub-tropical gardens, but not the swannery. The gardens were lovely and as we had Gardeners World 2 for 1 entry cards, good value.

Ideal for a family get-together
Nice cottage in a lovely village, with stunning Dorset scenery. Must be even better in summer, but even in rainy December we were able to make the most of it, lots to see and do. Cottage is well-appointed, spacious and clean.

Lovely house and setting BUT
House had comfy beds, lots of room, big garden. Near to local pub, and easy to get to weymouth etc.
We did find the garden overgrown, which after a couple of days the owner got a gardener in for us. it needs alot of tlc, chairs and bbq in the shed had to wash the chairs and bbq was disgusting. Everything in shed and garage hasnt been cleared for years. The house was spacious, eco toilets left alot to be desired, having to flush several time to clear , and one kept overfilling. The owner was informed of this, he said he would do his best, but the plumber didnt get back to me, owner told me lives 100 miles away, he needs to go and look at what needs to be done. Could have been cleaner, cobwebs, bathroom floors, etc. Cleaners turned up as we were leaving, 2 men, think a woman would be better.

We were let down by our gardener and we now have a new person looking after the garden who does a better job. The bbq has now been replaced with a new one. I think the outside chairs may have been used by the birds if they had been left outside the shed. Certainly a problem had developed with the upstairs toilet cistern which was replaced but it took a few attempts by the plumber to get access to make repairs -- we recommend the key is left in the keysafe when a repair is needed. Our cleaners who are highly reputable so it may be that there was a bit of a gap since our previous guests. We visited the week of 20th June and everything was in good order.

Family House in great area
Had a lovely few days in Pucknowle. The house is very roomy with a big garden that the children loved. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need. Pucknowle is a picturesque village with a good local pub and is situated close to the coast. You can walk to the coast but it’s a bit of a trek so you will need a a car.

Lovely comfortable cottage
We enjoyed a great family week staying in this lovely comfortable cottage. There was plenty of room for all of us including parents, grand parents and children of varying ages. Great location only 1.5 miles from the beach, which we enjoyed walking to. We would certainly recommend a stay and will be going back.

Very nice place to stay in tranquil surroundings
We stayed a week and enjoyed it. It's a spacious house with all the main things well catered for- dry and fresh, good heating system easily regulated, well equipped kitchen (though a bit minimalist in terms of the cooking basics- decent supply of condiments would have been welcome), good quality, firm beds and so on. The garden does need some TLC though- grass hadn't been cut for some time, and some attention to some shrubs and trees- probably with a chainsaw- wouldn't come amiss. Brambles growing through pretty well everywhere are getting to be a bit of a child hazard. But that's all easily dealt with, and I wouldn't want to give an overall impression that was anything other than positive. It is a very pleasant family-sized home, a couple of miles from Chesil Beach, and we would happily stay again.

Puncknowle Special
This cottage is spacious allowing several members of a family or friends to stay. The two sitting rooms are handy if somebody wishes to avoid the TV. Comfortable beds with two bathrooms or washing areas.Kitchen well equipped with plates and cutlery though a few more items like pyrex dishes would help. Safe large garden suitable for children to kick a ball around. The cottage is in a quiet attractive part of Dorset. Great place to stay.

About the neighbourhood
Puncknowle is one of several villages located in the Bride Valley. The other villages are Litton Cheney, Swyre, Shipton Gorge, Chilcombe, Little Breedy and Long Breedy. Burton Bradstock sits at the end of the valley where the river enters the sea through a gap in the cliffs. Today the river is more like a stream, but the depth of the valley is perhaps an indicator of its former size; The name of the river derives from a Celtic word meaning boiling or gushing. Relics of ancient civilisations abound in the valley and in the surrounding area.
The Jurassic Coast is a World Heritage Site that extends from from Orcombe Point near Exmouth in the west to Old Harry Rocks near Swanage in the east. Its entire length of 96 miles can be walked on the South West Coast Path. The site has been named as the fifth-greatest natural wonder in Britain. Chesil Beach is more or less at the mid-point of the Jurassic Coast so you can explore fairly easily in either direction.
The coastal geology displays many unusual landforms, including the natural arch at Durdle Door, the cove at Lulworth, the Isle of Portland, and Chesil Beach, all worth visiting. The highest point on the Jurassic Coast, and on the entire south coast of Britain, is Golden Cap, just beyond Lyme Regis, at 191metres (627 ft). This can be seen from various points on the coast including the beach at Burton Bradstock (4 miles). Burton Bradstock is the nearest recognised beach for swimming and has a National Trust.car park and cafe.
