It is one of our surprisingly spacious ‘tardis’ properties. First floor: Small landing and family bedroom with a king size bed and single futon. Bathroom with bath (shower spray on taps), WC and washbasin. Garden; courtyard Parking; Street parking on no through road at the back of the property. £100 refundable breakage deposit. £30 per week per pet. £25 Booking fee. Wensum House and its Annexe is over 300 years old and is a Grade II Listed Building. In 1905, Wensum House & Annexe was home to Father Gray, a Roman Catholic priest who was given permission by the Bishop to say mass in the house and Annexe as there was no Catholic church in Fakenham at that time. A stained glass window can be seen in the Annexe from Back Street, this was the confessional – now rather ignominiously the toilet! A few years later George Edwards, a young farm lad who went on to become a Labour MP and was knighted by King George V in 1930, lived in Wensum House & Annexe, and ran the ‘National Agricultural Labourers’ and Rural Workers’ Union’ from here. There are some lovely walks in the surrounding area, and a village pub, duck pond and children’s play area round the corner. Fakenham, on the River Wensum, has a choice of shops, pubs, cinema, and garden nursery – the town centre is a 5 minute walk from Wensum House Annexe. Thursday is very popular for its market and auction, and a day at the Fakenham Races (horse racing and sometimes camel racing!) should not be missed. Holkham and Houghton Halls, Sandringham House, and Well-next-the-Sea are within easy driving distance not forgetting the popular village of Burnham Market. Sculthorpe Moor and Pensthorpe Nature Reserves are less than a 10 minute drive – perfect for nature lovers. The Hanseatic port of King’s Lynn and the coast at Hunstanton are 30 minutes by car and Norwich, with its busy city life, is about a 40 minute drive. We are sure that guests will want to spend most of their days exploring this interesting part of Norfolk - and Hempton, Fakenham is ideally situated to venture North, South, East and West. If guests wish to have breakfast incorporated into their stay the owners of Wensum House will gladly oblige at direct cost.More
