Byre 2 is a comfortable cottage-former cow Byre -in the corner of a farmyard now a gravelled courtyard. The cottage has a lovely bathroom with a shower over the bath and underfloor heating all recently renovated. There is a living room with kitchen , dining table and two sofas on which to relax. The first bedroom has a double bed and the second bedroom has two single beds with a good sized wardrobe. This Byre has a washing machine in the cupboard. There is,of course, access to wi fi. All furnishings have been recently installed. There is ample parking in the courtyard and the owners are on site in the old farmhouse if anything is required. The price for one night is £90 but drops for two or more nights to £80 per night.

We enjoyed our stay at Bridget’s cottage. The place was really clean and as per the description. Bridget also added nice personal touches, we really enjoyed our cake. She was very friendly and quick to reply to our queries. Would definitely recommend this place

The cottage was handy for visiting the prehistoric sites at Avebury and the very picturesque local towns like Lacock, Bath or Bradford on Avon. The cottage was very reasonably priced but I felt you got what you paid for. It slept 4 but we were three and found it quite cramped in the kitchen/living/dining area. Having said that it had a very good up to date bathroom and it was all spotlessly clean. My two reservations would a) be the fact that it backed directly onto an A-road which was fairly busy with very fast traffic and b) the beds! They were incredibly hard and I would suggest replacing them or at least getting thick mattress toppers.

Friendly welcome. Cosy cottage close to Laycock. Lovely clean facilities- kitchen with oven and hob, fridge plus bathroom with Mira shower over bath and 2 small bedrooms. Only problem was the night storage heaters which we didn’t find out how to switch off so too hot at night in bedrooms. Highly recommended

Sorry you found the heaters too hot. They just switch off at the plug! They aren’t night storage. Glad you enjoyed your visit… There are lots more places to visit locally so do visit us again!

We stayed as a family of four in Byres 2 for four nights and had a wonderful time. Great location for visiting Bath and Stonehenge, excellent pub 5 minutes away and surrounded by lovely countryside. The cottage was well equipped and had everything we needed, Bridget and Bob were very welcoming and helpful, the homemade cake provided was a lovely gesture.

Awesome cottage in a great rural location. Compact & very clean with good amenities. Hosts were extremely friendly & helpful & even baked us a lovely cake. Would strongly recommend & we are definitely planning to visit again. We used it as a base to cycle along the Kennet & Avon canal.

A really lovely place to stay. It is modern, comfortable and spotlessly clean. Located in a quiet spot but easy to get to local attractions. On arrival was a freshly baked sponge.. will definitely be returning and that’s not just because of the cake!

Booked for a week in order to visit Wiltshire. Lovely welcome from owners Bridget and Bob, who were very knowledgeable and helpful about the area and places to visit. Byre was beautifully furnished - everything you could have wanted. Personally, we found the bed quite hard - just call me Goldilocks! Homemade cake awaiting us and milk in the fridge, tea and coffee in the cupboard. Lacock definitely worth a visit, Stonehenge and Avebury a must, Avebury manor was superb. Malmesbury was very pretty, as was Marlborough. Local pub was a tad overpriced but easy walking distance. Great week and thoroughly recommended.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. We chose the bed because it was so firm, we thought people like a firm bed! Sorry about that. We are pleased to help our visitors find their way around and we’re thrilled to be able to point out quirky things such as the tombstone at Malmesbury Abbey for the girl eaten by a tiger.

We visited Wiltshire for a couple of days on our way back from Cornwall and booked the Byre at short notice. The cottage itself is a hidden gem. Spotlessly clean, decorated to a high standard, and with everything you could possibly need for a stay. Bob and Bridget were incredibly friendly, leaving us a delicious homemade cake, with homemade jam in the middle 😍 and a pint of milk, and loaned us a map for easier exploring. The bathroom came with plenty of towels, and some individual toiletries. More like a hotel than a self catering cottage. Melksham has every supermarket you could need, a park, takeaways etc. Wiltshire is a beautiful county, and we'll definitely be returning. You won't be disappointed if you book the Byre.

About the neighbourhood
The area has lots of country walks. There are 8 white horses cut into chalk hills in various locations in Wiltshire. We are close to many film locations and lots of pretty villages to discover. Bowood, with its large variety of events ,is close by and has the adventure play park, a super golf course and a spa to enjoy. Marlborough was mentioned in the Telegraph’s top ten shopping destinations and was the only high street to be featured
Getting around
There are train stations in Westbury, Chippenham and Trowbridge. Bus travel is possible to Chippenham, Calne and Melksham from Bromham but this village is reached by car (5 mins) or a country walk of 20 minutes.
