I struggle with this review because the property was amazing but unclean. The architecture of the property is gorgeous, the furniture is fun and pays homage to local businesses, and the pictures on the wall throughout the house really immerse you in the local culture. The view is spectacular and we really enjoyed eating dinner on the back porch and drinking our coffee and tea in the morning outside. I wish I could leave it at that, but the property was not clean. The housekeeper left us a note saying she couldn't finish the wash and there were clean sheets for the beds on bottom floor in the dryer for us to make the beds with and then had the audacity to leave an envelope on the kitchen counter for a tip. The previous renters hadn't emptied the trash from the basement floor and the housekeeper also hadn't washed the used bathroom towels from that floor. We chose not to use that space during our stay. The second and third floors were relatively clean but could have been better swept and vacuumed. The garage and room above it had a strong mold odor the permeated into the bedding and pillows. I wouldn't recommend using that room. When we stripped one of the beds upstairs we found a large pee stain on the mattress pad. The property management company made it clear that housekeeping doesn't wash the dishes, the dishes were clean, but the drawers were full of hair and crumbs. The closets and drawers throughout the house were chaotic and far from organized. Would we stay here again? It depends on who you ask in the group. Two adults say no due to the cleanliness, the other two say yes because the rest of the house, view, and stay were enjoyable. Our recommendations to the owner are (1) get a new housekeeper; this was literally the ONLY unenjoyable part of our stay and (2) put up better window coverings in the bedrooms.

Beautiful property and house but: Front door lock inoperable. Couldn’t get into the property. Sent a caretaker to fix. Still isn’t right. Poor directions on how to find the property. Very poor first impression. None of the TVs worked. I know it’s a VRBO but there were absolutely no supplies to get us started. Except for toilet paper. Caretaker and property company were fine. However, I think the property owners are not handling basic repairs. By far the worst VRBO experience we have had Greg

We had a great stay at White Birch! We were pleasantly surprised by the well-equipped kitchen, it has very nice utensils and appliances, the kind of stuff you would have at home, but not expect at a rental. The house and property were even nicer than the photos.

The house is modern and in an exceptional location - on the water with easy access to the shoreline, lots of trees and privacy, close to Stonington village. The house is attractively furnished with large windows, although dark curtains to handle the sunrise are needed. There are whimsical sculptures all around the property. Unfortunately, these lovely features were offset by some negative ones. The dampness on the ground floor made it unusable, including one bedroom, bathroom, and playroom. (The bedroom was incorrectly described as being on the second floor.) There were also numerous items in need of maintenance such as pulled out screening on the “screen“ porch, some hopelessly dirty pans, an active bees nest under the porch, and long, thick grass on walking “paths.” The good news is that all these items can be corrected/addressed with a little effort.
