We had a fantastic holiday in Gloucester. Summer wind was the perfect location - the house was beautiful, with all mod cons and fabulous views over the harbour. It was also ideally located, just a few minutes from Gloucesters Main Street and the highway to Boston. Linda and Hank were the perfect hosts - solving the minor problems we had very quickly and efficiently. I cannot recommend it highly enough and we hope to be back soon!

We recently stayed at Summerwind Cottage in Gloucester MA. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The decor was wonderfully New England cottage. The living area was cozy with lots of comfortable seating, cable tv and books for rainy days. The kitchen was well equiped with modern appliances, pots, pans, and tableware. Our bed was great - no morning backache. A real plus was the view of the working harbor from the large deck and from the rocker through the sliding door. The location is ideal for travel around the area and to shopping and restaurants. We highly recommend this property. We rent a number of homes each year for short vacations. This is one of the best.

We have just returned from Summerwind Cottage, it is just beautiful. I can honestly say it is the nicest, best equipped place we have ever stayed in. Fantastic layout and the view from the terrace over the harbour is lovely. You feel you could move in permanently, and it feels like home the moment you step through the door. Spotlessly clean, comfortable and amazingly well equipped. Some rentals give you the minimum because they know you will be eating out, Summerwind is better kitted out than my own kitchen. It also has a utility room in the basement. Make sure you have it on SatNav as it was a bugger to find first time in the dark, it is tucked away at the end of a road which is great as it is very quiet. You need to climb a small set of stairs to access the apartment but once inside its all one level. Owner has redesigned the rental and she has very good taste, it's light and airy and modern but doesn't feel like a show home. The weather has been unseasonably warm for October and the cottage contained beach towels, a cool bag and chairs for the beach we couldn't have asked for more. The owners are lovely friendly people. They give you space and privacy but you know that should there be a problem you can just ask and they will help. Gloucester is a nice town, especially if you are a bit arty. We also enjoyed Manchester by the Sea which is quite posh and loads of other little towns. If you like pottering about, good beaches, good food and exploring, then coming home to put your feet up in stylish comfort, this is the one for you. I'm not the worlds best at photos but these might give you an idea of what you can expect.

We had such a great experience staying at Summerwind two years ago that we recently returned. With three teenage boys we found it extremely convenient to have boogie boards, beach chairs, towels and cooler all there for us to use. We took every chance we had to go to the beach, which is minutes away. We had everything we needed to host family and friends for cookouts and lobster on a deck with a beautiful view of the harbor. We will return to Gloucester in years to come and hope to stay at Summerwind when we do.

I have stayed in a dozen or so vacation rentals over the years, including several in the Cape Anne area, and this one was by far the best maintained, best outfitted, most comfortable and attractive of any. My husband and I stayed here with our children (10, 12, 17) while in town to sightsee and visit relatives. We especially enjoyed the roomy living areas, the modern kitchen, eating on the comfortable deck, and the easy access to Good Harbor Beach. The location is a good place to explore and enjoy on foot. The cottage has laundry machines in the basement, a gas stove, propane outdoor grill, reliable wifi, a supply of beach towels, and even a Scrabble game! The owners were extremely accommodating and helpful, both while coordinating our reservation and arrival, and in answering questions during our stay. This rental is ideal for a couple, small friends' group, or family with older children.

My wife and I stayed a week at Summerwind in September. The house overlooks Gloucester harbor, and although close to the center of town and near restaurants and shops, it is situated on a hillside off a quiet side street. The cottage itself is airy and beautifully furnished with an attractive color scheme, and some paintings. it is not cluttered with bricabrak and other cutsey things one might find in a rental. I have built a few of the houses I have lived in and can say that the structure, workmanship, and finishing of Summerwind is exceptional. The kitchen and bath are fully fitted out and all the fixtures are new. Kitchen needs, like paper towels, spices, and condiments were well present. Mattresses are of good quality and there is plenty of bed linens, blankets, and towels. The ample deck is a great place for sunsets and evening dining. Linda amero is a charming and helpful landlady - without being intrusive. She lives next door, and let us know right off she was always available to help with finding supermarkets and places of interest. There is a printed sheet of instructions that made our stay easy. There is also Wifi and a large screen TV with cable. We would give it ten stars if we could. I know we will be back to Gloucester and Summerwind. Frank O'Brien Roanoke, Virginia

Have just spent a week at the cottage and it was was absolutely lovely. It is exactly like the pictures, beautifully decorated and very well equipped. The owners, Linda and Hank go out of their way to help you. There is lots to do in the area, chilling out on the beautiful beaches, whale watching, sightseeing and shopping in Rocky Neck, Rockport, Salem and Boston (only an hour away on the train). Gloucester has lots of good restaurants (would recommend Captain Carlo's and the Topside Grill). Will definitely return again to visit more of New England.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in "Summerwind". It is a truly beautiful house. Linda and Hank, you did a wonderful job in remodeling and decorating the place. The color scheme and artwork reflect the lovely area and the lifestyle of Gloucester and we truly enjoyed the ambiance here. We felt very comfortable and welcomed in the house which was spotlessly clean and furnished with everything one could possibly need for their stay. We loved the area of East Gloucester. Good Harbor beach was a very enjoyable walk from the house. Rocky Neck and the Eastern Point Lighthouse were also very near and Rockport is only a short drive away. Our favorite restaurants were "My place by the Sea" in Rockport, "7th Wave " also in Rockport and "The Rudder" in Rocky Neck. We also enjoyed the beer at the Cape ann Brewing Company in Gloucester. And best of all was a barbecue on our veranda overlooking the Gloucester harbor. This was also where we enjoyed breakfast each morning watching the activity below. Linda, your exceptional taste and attention to detail made us choose Summerwind Cottage and we were not disappointed - it surpassed our expectations. A big thank you from Mira, Dominic and family (Ireland).

About the neighbourhood
The prettiest stretch of coastline in all of Massachusetts, Cape Ann offers you big-city culture mixed with small-town charm and exciting recreational activities. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway or a family vacation, you’ll find it here. Who wouldn’t want to come here? Cape Ann is one of the last great unspoiled places. Founded by Pilgrims in 1623, named for England’s Queen Anne, the cape sprouted villages along its coast, leaving its whole center a wild wood. Every curve of its rugged coastline shows off a new scenic beauty: harbors, lighthouses, islands, miles of sandy beaches, quarries, inlets and coves, all so picturesque that moviemakers film here constantly. Yet we’re only 30 miles from Boston’s Logan Airport.
Getting around
Best way to see the sights is by car... everything is pretty close around here. Train to Boston 1 mi. (1 hour ride). There is the local CATA bus that travels around Cape Ann (Gloucester and Rockport) as well as a water taxi that goes back and forth across the harbor, from downtown to Rocky Neck.
